It is no secret that the Dolphins are looking to improve the WR position this off season. It has been reported by a variety of media outlets that Greg Jennings is a realistic target for the Dolphins in FA and there were rumors in 2012 that the Dolphins were in contact with the Eagles to find out what it would take to trade for Jeremy Maclin. My questions to the members of this board (who may be more informed that I) are: 1) Do you think it is possible and financially feasible to sign Greg Jennings in FA and trade for Jeremy Maclin? 2) What do you realistically think it would take to trade for Jeremy Maclin?
I have the sneaking suspicion that Chip Kelly will look at Maclin at a very valuable resource. It's probably going to be expensive to get him via straight up trade. You're probably looking at ponying up at least a second rounder to start with ... maybe even higher. If we sign Jennings and keep both Hartline and Bess we don't need Maclin and can use that second rounder someplace else.
I don't see it happening, but I'd be pretty "ehh" if they gave up anymore than a 3rd for the services of Maclin. I imagine many would be content with a 2nd though.
I fear that you are right on target with your sneaky suspicion as I would much rather hold on to Maclin if I were Chip Kelly also. However, from the Dolphin's perspective I don't believe that Hartline + Bess is better than Maclin and a draft pick (ryan swope perhaps).
I believe Miami is the best fit for Jennings and vice-versa for the organization. Now, here is were I might sir up a little hostility (against me) from some members on this board considering you mentioned Patterson and Bailey. My vision is similar to yours, but I would go about it in a completely different way then most people. I would seriously consider trading for Maclin by offering Philly our #12 pick and Davone Bess for Jeremy Maclin, picks #35 and #67. I would skip out on Patterson unless he drops to pick #35. If he doesn't I would draft Stedman Bailey with one of our three 2nd round picks and then draft Ryan Swope with one of the three 3rd round picks. This would leave us with Greg Jennings - Jeremy Maclin - Armon Binns - Stedman Bailey - Ryan Swope - Rishard Mathews as a much improved WR Corp and we would still have two more 2nd round picks and two 3rd round picks (and rest of draft) to fill out the rest of the roster including DE/OLB, TE, OL, DB and RB. Alright now everyone can unleash their wrath on me!!!
IMO, Maclin is not that good, and keep in mind Chip Kelly is a newbie HC, he'll want all his weapons and picks to implement what he wants to do in Philly. There will be guys who don't fit in, maybe Celek though.
Philly fans hate Celek. They say he's regressed big time. I want no part. I would be interested in Maclin for the right price. Not sure if I'd part with the second round pick we offered originally, but he'd be cheaper than Wallace and add similar dimensions.
because we should run out team based on what Philly fans think... I agree with you that I dont think he is worth a 2nd round pick. I would rather just keep the pick and take someone like Bailey
I would take it a step further… MY plan wold be to sign Jennings (let Hartron walk), draft Patterson (hopefully after a trade down) AND draft Bailey in the 2nd.
Celek does not excite me and if we are going to look for a TE in FA I would prefer to look at either Dustin Keller or Delanie Walker. I have what I feel is really good plan to upgrade the defense including the pass rush and DBs, but I will leave that conversation for the Draft forum and preferably for March when there is better idea of the rankings for the Draft prospects and I can gauge whether my plan is realistic and avoid looking like a jack***, but most people tell me that it is too late to avoid that already.
Can't blame them. He's never brought htem anything good. Come to think of it.....you can't really blame him either.
Whoa, tried to reply and ended up in Blog post land. Weird. I agree, he's our Mike Furrey. Ok he's better than Mike Furrey with a higher YPC but Mike Furrey got to 1,000 yards due to a huge increase in targets. The year before Furrey had a Hartline'esque year.
