I think there's a valid argument of putting the value of offensive linemen in a lesser context than some other positions, but they're not less important because you don't get a good gauge of their impact just following the ball on a given play. I don't see how you could rate front seven players as worthwhile in a specific area of the draft and not the guys who are capable of neutralizing their impact.

That's a silly statement. The hit rate on 1st & 2nd round offensive linemen is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than lower round guys, so in this regard, when you compare 1st round linemen to the majority of low rounders who go on to do nothing, the high drafted linemen do indeed dwarf them. It has nothing to do with the rare late round guy who ends up performing like a first rounder; it's about ensuring you get performance, period, and like I already mentioned- the likelihood you get performance from a 1st & 2nd round lineman is significantly higher than from a lower round guy.

That's fine and dandy if you already have a good Oline in place, but what if the line is problematic or is undergoing a scheme change? You still gonna wait to develop the players while subjecting your offense to less than desirable efficiency in the process?

SF has three 1sts on the OL. Staley, Davis and Iupati.

The ridiculousness of that statement is shown when one compares Ricky before Jamie Nails tore his Achilles and Ricky after. Compare his YPC in 2002, when he had a healthy Nails for 15 games, and in 2003 when Nails returned as a shell of his former self after his Achilles injury.

How could he predict Saturday would get hurt? He'd been a pretty durable player for years. Until he got hurt, Saturday was doing fine. He wasn't much a run blocker but the main thing the Packers line needs to do is protect Rodgers, and Saturday was really solid in that regard. Granted, he is healthy enough now to play, but I thought he lost his job when he hurt his neck and shoulder, and McCarthy kept Dietrich-Smith in the lineup because he was playing well and totally healthy.

As for Sherrod, I don't think they even know yet what kind of player he could be, since he's been constantly hurt since he joined the team. 5 games in 2 years and never yet started one. If one wanted to say Thompson struck out on a player, all things considered, a better case could be made that he struck out on Sherrod than on Saturday.

that's true, an elite guard won't increase it all by himself....... but when paired with Pouncey and a solid right guard it will increase 1st down run efficiency like San Fran's does which directly impacts the success rate of a drive, and it'll increase the 3rd down conversion efficiency in turn leading to more sustained drives and more scoring opportunities, and it'll improve redzone scoring efficiency, especially inside the 5, and it should increase passing efficiency b/c QBs with more time to throw typically have greater success, which is true in Tannehill's case. Not to mention it can do wonders for play action, help wear a defense down, keep the offense out of less risk-prone situations, and take pressure off a young QB by allowing the oline and ground game to dictate the play early in games like San Francisco does, and then have the ability to close out 4th quarter leads like San Fran does.

Actually he was awful all season long and he was benched because his performances were shocking. Injuries didn't help but he had a poor year.

Are you Ted Thompsons agent or just unfeasibly chippy all of the time these days?

Saturday was indeed awful. It was hard to stomach seeing him fall off so dramatically. That said, kind of surprised they didn't just go with EDS from the beginning. Never looked bad to me.

Think there's a little bit of face-saving, he-said/she-said going on there. The official story on Saturday not playing is that Saturday himself (very Eric Steinbach-like) came to the coach and said I just can't hack it anymore, body won't do what I want it to do, you should put in Evan.

Chippy? Why do you say that? Am I not allowed to question something you post without being perceived as chippy?

I thought he was removed from the lineup when he got hurt, and they just stuck with EDS even when Saturday was physically able to come back. Pardon me for being wrong.

Suspiciously sounds like Te'o might be a bit of a doo doo chaser.

Create a fake gf so he can openly converse with his bf without drawing attention, then kill off the gf before family & friends grow wary of her existence.

No, but I think most people wouldn't like to claim they were "going out" with someone they never met in person. It'd be much easier to say they met somewhere else, where no one who was immediately around could corroborate.

No way. Seriously, think about it, what testosterone flowing 19-22 year old guy would intentionally choose to be celibate/romance-free for 3 years by creating a fake relationship? That's 3 years of choosing to go without a "REAL" girlfriend. What reason would he have to subject himself to this other than using it as a facade to mask being gay?

If that's the case, I feel bad for the guy if he believed he had to go to such an extent to conceal his true self.

Honestly, the only thing that makes this story make sense is: Te'o is gay.

I don't mean anything offensive by that, but think about it. He plays a very physical game with men and being "gay" isn't exactly accepted in the sports community. "Making up a girlfriend" gives him an excuse as to why his teammates never see him hooking up with chicks, bringing girls home, etc. Also he attended a very religious school in Notre Dame, were being gay isn't exactly accepted. Lastly, wouldn't a typical guy want to see naked pics of a girl he supposedly was dating? And then wouldn't she want to see pics of him? Depending on how long they "dated" or how long he said they did makes me think this was planned out or he at least took a small part in this.

Again, not hating or anything but if you think about it that is one of the few things that makes sense.

I think they started out as lovers and then decided to use it for publicity (killing her off) after it reached the point they believed they could no longer fake her existence w/o drawing too much suspicion. Building up her "existence" for 3 years was quite dramatic, so ending her "existence" should likely be just as dramatic considering how much time they spent personifying her; therefore, having Te'o simply "break up with her" would seem anticlimactic as I'm guessing they developed an attachment to this fictitious character.

It'd be even worse if he had won the Heisman I think.

" I am a young aspiring actor, singer, dancer, musician; basically well-rounded with an amazing work ethic. I am extremely passionate towards my music and the material i work with. I work very well with other people who have the same industrious mentality. I do not enjoy long walks, yet I do love the beach. Furthermore, I am willing to work hard for those who feel like I am the actor/singer/musician/dancer they have been looking for. Fondly, Ronaiah L Tuiasosopo. "

His "TalentJug" profile does seem a little "suspect", especially the part, "I do not enjoy long walks, yet I do love the beach", as does his picture ..... although it could just be the metrosexual thing. Plus, what straight guy would use the word "snugglebunny" unless actually talking to a real live, serious gf? lol Either way I could care less what his preference is but it would be interesting to see a prominent male athlete come out this early in his career and be the pioneer to break that barrier.

I think the gay theory is not too far-fetched.

Why would you do all this to cover up the fact that you are gay? this is not the 1930's… people are pretty accepting of homosexuality.
