1992 at old Foxboro Stadium. I was 16. Was FREEZING that day. Bought an inflatable Dolphins helmet at the game and it was so cold, when I blew it up, it cracked. Good times. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199212270nwe.htm
My one and only game was Aug. 27th 1992 in Baltimore to see a preseason game vs the Saints. This was when Baltimore was trying to get a team. Had a great time even though they lost, but to see the likes of Dan, the Marks Brothers, Webb, Sims was a dream come true. Wish tickets were still $20 bucks :-)
My 1st Dolphins game was Bob Greise's start against Denver in 1967. We got the tickets for $ 5 a piece from a special deal at Kwik-Check (was bought a few years later by Winn-Dixie) in Coral Gables. For every $ 10 spent at the store you could buy a Miami Dolphins ticket for $ 5 instead of the face value of $ 8 a ticket. I had to beg my Mom to buy steak in order to go over $ 60 for our groceries that week so we could get the tickets !!!!
My first game was in 1994. Loss to the Bills at Ralph Wilson. It became a yearly tradition during the early to late 90s and I'm pretty sure Miami lost most of them... It was an amazing feeling seeing that field for the first time with the players I loved on it. At first it seemed huge. But then it seemed much smaller than the field looked on TV.
LOL I go back aways then most here. Actually, my first Dolphin game I attended was to see Namath play. I had been a Giants fan up until then. I had just gotten my drivers license and ( in those days ) when you went to games the entire family went. Was my Dad, uncle, 2 cousins and one brother( other one had to work ) My uncle Johnny let me drive his Caddy to Shea Stadium from Jersey. That in itself was a trip and a half at the time. Anyway here is my first Dolphins game and yes, I am not as old as dirt but probably could be father or grandfather to a lot of people on the board. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/196611200nyj.htm
1978 or 79, not positive, I was 8 or 9. Dolphins/Bills. Larry Csonka was our running back and I remember Tony Nathan ran a punt back 86 yards or so for a td. Ive been to probably 100 games since then.
You guys that saw them play in the 70's for the first time... impressive... I'm impressed you old farts remember it ... kidding!!
06 Monday Night Christmas Day game vs Jets. Game where Zach killed Coles on the field. Leon Washington took a screen pass like 50 yards and they kicked a FG in winding seconds to win it.
The first game I attended was also the first regular season game the Dolphins ever played. It was on September 2, 1966, against the Oakland Raiders. I was fortunate enough to be present when Joe Auer returned the first kickoff in Dolphin history for a touchdown. I have gone on to attend over 300 plus regular season home games since 1966, as well as nearly 30 road games.
What's getting me is reading about how many of you guys have only been to one or two games.....holy moly I thought most on here had at the least been season ticket holders for a season or two at one time or another. I am guessing here, but I would say I have been to about 328 home preseason & regular season games, while I was a season ticket holder from 1978 to 2011, plus from 1967 to 1977 I went to about 25-30 games, plus 30-40 playoff games so a total of roughly 375-380 games in total. Oh I did go to Tampa once for a preseason game when my Aunt & Uncle still lived in Clearwater. I missed two regular season games & no playoff games from 1978 to 2011. I missed one because of my late wife's illness and the other due to being to sick with the flu to go. I went several times when I shouldn't have because of having a cold - but what the **** its my Dolphins, I had to go.
Yep, I've been to over 300 Dolphins games as well. Long time season ticket holder and thru the 70s I saw every game free.
October 6, 1991 - The Patriots at Foxboro - The Dolphins won 20-10. This has actually been my only NFL football game. I seem to remember it being really cold but that website lists the temp at 64 degrees. Makes me wonder if I have the right year but I am pretty sure that was the game. I was amazed at how much you don't experience going to the game (no replays, no close-ups of the cheerleaders, etc), and not really seeing anything but little ants running back and forth on the field. I do remember having a fair amount of Dolphins fans in the stadium and every time the Patriots got a first down the guy in front of me stood up to signal the first down. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199110060nwe.htm I would love to go back to see another game but not when the Super Patriots are playing and Lowly Dolphins are there. One of my Bucket list items would be to see a game in Miami. KP
The Dolphins donated 10 tickets to an orphanage right next to my house for every single home game. That included playoffs. I used to play football with their kids everyday. They had one councilor that knew I loved the Dolphins and football so he took me to them all. Not a bad gig for a kid....
