UNC WR Jheranie Boyd- anyone know about this guy? He's another WR with good size, very good speed and a track background. There have been quite a few of these WRs with track backgrounds who were FA's like Miles Austin or later picks in the draft who blossomed, Marquez Colston comes to mind as well. As to Boyd:

"Was ranked No. 7 on ESPN.com’s “Freak List” as one of the top workout warriors in college football • According to then-UNC strength and conditioning coach Tom Myslinski, Boyd’s score of 312 in the Max Jones Quad would rank him as the 22nd all-time best score among the world’s elite track and field athletes • Boyd’s Max Jones Quad score is based on his 30-meter dash time (3.3), his three jump distance of 34-6, his overhead throw of a 16-pound shot for 56-5 and a 10-11 standing long jump."

But the question comes to mind, as with Marquise Goodwin, why hasn't Boyd produced more in college? He was hampered by a leg injury for a good part of 2012- maybe there are some Tar Heel fans or others out there who can shed some light. He was on the Biletnikoff 2012 preseason watch list, then fell out of sight. Anyway, here's some footage of Boyd, and to me he looks like a pretty good deep threat with his size and speed:

One downside that I see is that he seems to weave through traffic more than make distinct and effective cuts, at least that's my first impression based upon those receptions and runs on reverses in the clip.

Without havibg seen the guy, some guys are good at running, but not at playing receiver, I guess.

Probably due to lack of technique, and poor instincts.

Well, apparently he did enough to impress his Junior year that he was on the Biletnikoff watch list as one of the best WRs heading into the 2012 season. That's kind of passing the buck on my part, but all I'm saying is that he must have done enough to impress in 2011 to get on that top WR list. He has the size and speed, but so does Marlon Moore and he might be working at Pizza Hut next year. Boyd does look smooth catching the deep ball imo, I'm just interested in finding out a bit more on him.

No thanks. UNC was playing walk ons over Boyd this year. Dude had a breakout game vs LSU in 2010, then disappeared.

He's exactly the kind of player this front office loves to add either in the late rounds or as a UDFA.
