Too much is being made of Egnew right now. Even the rookies who looked good like Miller and Matthews had a hard time getting onto the field under Philbin. Let's give Egnew another season before writing him off or labeling him a bust. As far as Egnew vs BMarshall, well both are watching the playoffs and SB from their respective couches this season, yes? You have to be excited about the draft. 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. That is quite a boon for any team, let alone us.

Eh, I've seen failure so many times especially in Miami, I have little confidence in Egnew doing much of anything tbh. As for the draft, I enjoy it, just think it is waaay overhyped, what really matters is how much playing time a guy will receive, not their draft position. Coby Fleener was supposed to by Luck's guy, but Allen turned out to be the better player, that is how it works sometimes.
Poor Pat White... think he agrees? He was knocked out and concussed by Ike Taylor of the Steelers running for the sidelines... perhaps these guys are just too slight of build to last?
Are you freaking SERIOUS? Our front office is a league-wide joke and has been for years. No hyperbole involved, that is how we are perceived and with a lot of justification. We have made one false step after another, and we are notorious for how few of the players we've drafted the last few years that are still on the team. We've passed up one player after another who have turned into stars and settled for players who will never sniff stardom. Yes, we've drafted a player or two who have produced, but our hit ratio is very low and our free agency performance is laughable. We can't attract big name free agents, that's not even debatable. I don't know what team you've been watching if you don't agree.
A lot of fans from a lot of other teams feel the same way. That is why 4 or 5 other teams are actively seeking new GMs right now. People are human, they make mistakes, even GMs. Sometimes these are blown out of proportion. Our FO/GM has been average - yes, but we haven't been ravaged like say Tannebaum with the stej, or Pioli with the Chiefs... and look at the Bolts. AJ Smith put together some nice rosters. They never produce, but they damn sure have stars. Ireland is a cat out of lives. He now has what appears to be a very good coach in Philbin and a young developing QB with some real upside. We have the second youngest roster in the league. He also has 5 picks in the first 3 rounds of the draft and 40 + million to spend on a roster. If we don't have a successful upcoming season, then he is finally gone. Nothing appears to be going to change in regard to the GM until after next season, so let's see how this plays out.
It's hard for me to take these points and make them part of an initial evaluation, i mean i couldn't look past RG's talent and leadership because he has a better chance of getting hurt, so I wanted to go up for him, just as I could of cared less about Russell Wilson's size, but I can understand some making them part of their evals.. Once again, the theory of coaches protecting a rookie Qb blows me away.. I like the theory that Tannehill working with an offense with the least amount of speed in the league, will benefit him long term.
Disagree, we are not seen as a joke (imo, as it is yours) it is not Carrucci running things. More or less we are just a very conservative FO who takes few risks and signs few high priced FA's who tries to chisel picks in every trade.
And....before RGIII was the best selling Jersey...Tim Tebow was. And....dont mistake that I dont believe the playoffs are not important. In the grand scheme of things, though, it didnt amount to a whole lot. The other aspect.....is....RGIII had most of his passing success when the Redskins were lined up in the Pistol formation. Undeniably, he is talented. He makes good decisions. But, I question as to whether or not he would have been as successful in a different offense. I will try and find a breakdown on his passing stats when in the Pistol, and when not.
I have no regrets for saying predraft that RG and Russell were ahead of Tannehill on my board, considering all the variables and value that came with them..I think either of them would of been the right option..Tannehill has that chance as well, I'm just not as confident. I would love for Ryan to sneakily start to move up and make me forget faster about those things..I like the theory that he had to deal with limited weapons, slow ones, and was being coached to stay within the pocket as much as possible, and how those things project positively for his progression.
My point is....he thrives in the Pistol formation, where the threat of him running makes it difficult to stop. If he wasnt a threat to run....what would his stats have looked like? IMO probably somewhere around Lucks stats.
RG3 definitely has talent and leadership, but there was already the concerns about his health at this level. NFL defenders are not the same level of competition most of these guys faced in HS and college. Also, I think there was some history of concussions with RG3 in college already, yes? But I disagree in that I think you have to protect your rookie QBs to some extent. They are young and foolhardy. While you want to set them up for success, you still have to protect them to some extent. Even with Philbin and Shermans attempts to limit RT from scrambling, RT still ended up playing through a knee injury and wearing a brace that limited his mobility. I agree on the lack of overall team speed. Bush and Miller are the only too speed guys we had this season. Sure would have been nice if the deals for Maclin, Hilton, Brazil had gone through...
Sure it is. He's now had his second major knee injury, and he's only 23. How long do you think he's going to be this dynamic dual threat?
A long time. That knee injury isn't anything that is going to be prohibitive. I don't' think anyone believes he's more prone to knee injuries. The real concern for him is concussions, which he only had one of this season. Troy Aikman and Steve Young averaged about one concussion per season for their careers, which weren't really that short.
Yup, I'll definitely just agree to disagree here. Because, IMO, he is more prone to knee injuries and concussions He's already had 3 big injuries in just his rookie year. I'd say it's a safe bet that if he continues this type of play he'll continue to rack up these injuries at almost the same rate. The guy is an absolute nightmare for defenses, and I'd be kidding if I said I didn't want him as a Dolphin. But like most Washington fans right now, I'd be more than a little concerned about his longevity in the NFL.
I had Allen as the best prospect coming out for most of the predraft timeframe, Fleener gained ground late and it became a 1 1a situation, Based on that athleticism and speed that could push him in front for his upside..not surprising at all that Allen was the best rookie tight end..he's going to be really good.
Pretty sure we would have taken Allen in the 3rd if the Colts hadn't doubled down and taken 2 TE's. It wouldn't surprise me to see us pick an UFA like JCook from TN at TE in FA and then still draft another. Hopefully we have much better TE options going forward.

Bush wasnt back to back 1k...he fell short (literally)....anyway. I like Reggie, but for the price, its just as easy to have the 4 man approach of Thomas, Miller, Gray, and Thigpen then spend the cash on Reggie B. if the money is not deemed worth it. My point OBVIOUSLY was not to put all the eggs in the Jonas Gray basket, but its quite possible to feel that Miler and Gray (depending on Thomas) could be a nice answer for 2013/14. Over looking his injury and its impact on draft status is just as narrowminded. Reggis has been wonderful for franchise, but he is not the end all be all in the plan.
I think his opinion has validity as measured by Peyton Manning only giving us a courtesy call when he was looking for a new home, the Sparano/Harbough mess, our well earned reputation for low balling in contract negotiations. Even the Dez Bryant thing. Actually saying aloud the question about whether his Mom was a prostitute is a low class, low self control thing to do. 31 other GMs would have thought the question, kept their mouths shut, made a note to investigate further and move on; but only our beloved Ireland was gormless enough to let his mouth run loose. I think Ireland would be a much better GM if he didn't think he was smarter than the other 31 GMs in the league and all the player agents.
INOW, in your opinion. As far as you know they did not, and to be blunt, I'd have asked the same question..and of course ol Dez did assualt moms. Nevermind that though. This I totally agree with, it is his curse so to speak, and a sign of insecurity personally not just in his job.
Would you trade Tannehill, two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder for RG3? That's basically what Snyder did, and keep in mind we would have had to give up even more than that to get him bc we were picking 8th and not 6th.
Their opinions aren't the only ones around, nor are they the ones that count. I have heard what coaches we've tried and failed to hire have said and failed to say in interviews, I've heard what free agent players we've tried and failed to sign have said in interviews.
it's gonna be interesting to see what Hartline is seeking money wise...I want Mike Wallace regardless of what we do with Hartline but if Hartline's looking for like 5-6 mil/yr, we might as well just pay a little bit more and sign Jennings instead...him and Wallace would be one heck of a duo. by the way, I feel like almost everyone is overlooking the possibility that all these guys we wanna sign could be tagged lol....Wallace, Jennings, Cook/Keller (franchise tag for TE's is like less than 6 mil) Levitre, etc...
The Steelers just signed Brown to a rather sizable contract - I don't follow the Steelers, but it seems unlikely that they're prepared to invest so much into the postion. I think you're figuring something like $15-17 million between the two if Wallace is tagged. They have some pretty decent depth and don't seem to be all that pass oriented as it is. I suppose Jennings could be tagged, but he has made it clear that he is absolutely opposed to that. Do they want to pay a disgruntled receiver that they don't necessarily need $10 million next season?
Too early to say. My point was, it wasn't as if we had no choice but to draft Tannehill. There were other options for upgrading at QB we could have taken. The OP made it sound as if it was all circumstances forcing us into this position.
Even though his biggest threat to a defense is his ability to run? And that ability to run is dependent on a knee that has now suffered 2 major injuries(both requiring surgery) in the past 3 years, and he's only 23, and he's only played 15 games in the NFL. I don't think people are grasping just how big of a problem this knee already is and how big it will become. All to a guy that relies heavily on his ability to run, no less.
It seems pretty straight cut to me that RGIII will always be more of a risk to get injured than Tannehill based on his playing style. He runs more and therefore he cuts more and gets hit more. That means that he is more often subjecting himself to all manner of pain and suffering. I loved RGIII coming out, but thought he was an excellent passer and that he would not run as much in the NFL as he did in college due to the dangers involved. Shanahan disagreed and maybe got much better short term results than my approach would have generated. However, I think RGIII will have a shortened career if he keeps going like he is. I believe he already had knee surgery in college and now comes a complete LCL and ACL tear. The knee didn't tear on a running play, but it got severely weakened by two running plays that a pocket passer doesn't get involved in. I don't think I'd want to wager 3 years of no high picks on RGIII having a 10+ year career playing the way he is right now.
