Sure, but that isn't really a situation where any type of process takes place. Thats a granular decision that he's going to make. It doesn't really entail him managing entire divisions of an organization.

I was pissed to I loved earl thomas in that draft.I must admitt I didn't think gronk would be anywhere near this good but was pissed with odrick and the misi picks.I would gladly give up 2 average players for 1 star.Whole damm team is a bunch of average player except for 3 and thats why we are 6-10 or 7-9 every year no star power.Quanity over quality doesn't work.

What at all was sugar coated? Do you not believe Odrick and Misi are solid starters? Or do you not believe Rashard Jones played at a Pro Bowl caliber this season? Or both?

I liked the Misi pick. Miami really needed a freaking linebacker.

I wasn't a fan of the Odrick pick because I didn't think he was needed.

    Bush has star power

hmm, I'm one of the larger Koa supporters on the board and think he has been a good player

Do not think he has been good enough however, I thought he'd be more like Aj Duhe tbh FN.

And, as is usual for us, he will play at a high level in 2013, his FA year.

I have seen this argument constantly, but in fact, it usually turns out to be dead wrong. Yes, individual fans can have blinders on, but when taken as a whole, the collective opinion of the fans about the talent of drafted players usually turns out to be correct. Not ALL the time...there are highly rated players that turn out to be busts, and sleepers who turn out to be stars...but I've been a fan a loooong time, and I have been on Dolphins message boards, newsgroups and AOL chat rooms since the early 90s and usually when the general consensus is that a draft pick sucked, it did.
Just because someone gets a job as a GM doesn't mean they're good at the draft. If they were all good at drafting, there would never be a horrible draft for a team, or years of horrible drafts, but there frequently are.
There are bad GMs in the league that get and keep their jobs because of people they know or how smooth they talk. And yes, the fans as a whole DO know more than those bad GMs.

Ross showing that he is patient with a GM/ Coach could go a long way towards improving his image league wide after the scrutiny of the Harbaugh chase and letting Tony twist in the wind. Might help attract talented front office folks down the road if Ireland is let go.

I never said that. However I did want a linebacker. Really, really bad.

But the one person most responsible for acquiring talent has been the constant, and it hasn't been working - 2 coaches, 3 OC's, 2 DC's, 3 QB's......and the result is almost the same every year.

Dude you'll never get them to understand. They believe in them because they play for the Dolphins. I would bet my house that if they played on another team, these folks would say they are average or below. It's the old "I have to be loyal because they are Dolphins" syndrome.

As someone else said, most owners don't have these "press conferences". It shows that Ross hasn't completely learned his lesson about the spotlight, glitz and glamour. IOW he's still at least partially clueless.

    I have to respectfully disagree.

Anybody can judge a draft years after the fact but I don't think any team will be turning their personnel decisions over to fan vote or popular opinion any time soon.

When you have numerous seasons of failure, and everything else has changed, eventually you have to start to consider that the guy building the team might be at fault.

So first Parcells and now Ross? Are you ever going to hold Jeff Ireland accountable? Honest question. What will it take for you to lose faith in the man?

This team could play much better against a tougher schedule and still only show marginal improvement in the win/loss column. The difference between a 9-7 team and a 11-5 team in the playoffs can be tiny. I could envision a 9-7 scenario where I would still want Ireland fired. But can you tell me if he hit a home run in the draft and the team went 9-7 you would want him gone? I mean, look at my track record I have 0 love for the man, but I'd be willing to admit I was wrong if he had an exceptional free agency and/or draft.

The Dolphins have been losing since 2004, and not all of that is Jeff's fault. The fact of the matter is, the Dolphins continue to lose because they haven't got the quarterback position right. The hope is they have finally done it.

I guess I have a different opinion of Misi. IMO, he was being played out of position his first 2 years in the league. The things he did well, set the edge, take on blocks and stuff the run, he was pretty damn good at. Being an explosive every down pass rusher off the edge? That he wasn't good at. But for what we need now in our current scheme, he's a solid player. Put it this way, I don't consider his position a "need" on draft day. And if that's the case, then he was a solid pick. Not an amazing pick like Gronk in the 2nd, but a solid one. And he coupled that with another solid pick in Odrick, who has been productive and has shown room for continued growth as well. And then Rashard Jones... a home run in the 5th.

Misi reminds me of Matt Roth when he played well Parcells first year in MIA, before he flaked out he was having a great year taking on blocks etc. I realize he was in a 3-4 but both are converted DE.

I guess my point is, how exceptional could his off season be if we are still struggling with beating better teams and only finish 9-7?

If we made major upgrades that should be the floor.

But I'm not obstinate about it. There are certainly scenarios where I could support keeping Ireland. I hope he proves me wrong. I'd love to see some wins.

    I'm calling it now.

Armando or Omar will at some point make a big deal that Ross "disrespected" his whole team by saying the most important pieces are QB & Coach. I predict that anyone on the team never gave it a second thought, until they start getting grilled about it. This will become another media created controversy that Ross will have to publicly address and it will still come up from time to time in Tweets and articles as asides.

You are disagreeing with a straw man. Read what I said again. I said that fans said that it was a bad pick when it was made and they usually turned out to be right. You can disagree all you like, my experience has shown pretty clearly to me that it happens a lot.

But we don't hit pur picks at a high enough rate to accumulate more talent than we lose.

So we leak water from the bottom of bucket faster than we fill it.

If that's our approach, the only hope is to sign great free agents to immediately turn them for picks so we have Two 1's, Two 2's, Two 3's every single year.

For this team the challenge has been to do it all, as we continue to ride the merry-go-round of mediocrity. Kind of thinking I'd rather ride the roller coaster. Maybe some low valleys, but a peak once in a while, even every few years would be nice. People can bad mouth the Jets, but I'd take what they have done since 2009 over what Miami has done. Making it to two AFC Championships and almost winning at least gave their fans a little excitement.

What? No trust in Ireland in he signs either of those two? You defend him ad infinitum, yet say the team is screwed if this man you trust so much signs either of those players.
