The Dolphins are not expected to prioritize re-signing TE Anthony Fasano this offseason.

An impending unrestricted free agent, Fasano finished with a career-high 41 catches in 2012, but was rarely a factor in the passing game and there's been no indication that he'll be brought back. The Dolphins will likely look to replace Fasano in-house with TE/FB Charles Clay and third-round pick Michael Egnew.

Is there an article or something with a link I can read this at? Either way, I would be ok with him going as long as we sign a FA such as Cook, and IF the coaches feel like Egnew will be much better next season. I would not be ok if they are unsure about Egnew and let Fasano walk.

Fasano led the team in receiving TD. How is that rarely a factor?

Because he was mostly just a factor near the end zone and the Dolphins rarely got near the end zone?

Why would we prioritize signing a FA who isn't the best fit for our offense when there are others who fit better?

Well, I guess it's the way of the NFL. I like Fasano. He will surely get picked up. He's a solid all-around TE, but nothing spectacular. I think with a better QB, he could be good for fantasy owners next year.

Oh yeah. Egnew and Clay clearly showed they can shoulder the load next year. Fasano Fashmano. It would be absolutely foolish to resign a TE who is pretty solid in the end zone and then look to add a TE who can provide a seam threat. That is honestly the last thing I would do.

Uhm, didn't we hear Fasano and Bush were going to be resigned quickly after the season from BJax?

  12. TBH Im not overly impressed with Fasano. I view him as a cusp player on this roster. If he does not get resigned its not a huge loss.

Well it is no surprise. It just says that they won't prioritize the resigning, but it does not say he will not come back. Long, Smith, Bush, Starks, and Hartline are all more important than Fasano when it comes to our free agents. This is not news, just something we all know.

I don't mind an improvement. Although it's weird that a team that struggles with receiving touchdowns, 2 years in a row let go of their biggest touchdown threat. Hopefully we will see more effort in replacing him then we did with Marshall.

While I'm not going to say that Fasano is the greatest tight end in the league, he's one of those guys you hold on to unless you DEFINITELY, let me reiterate, DEFINITELY, have someone better.

Dolphins need to add player's that fit the West Coast system or Philbin needs to scratch the West Coast and put in a offense that fits our current personel. Writing on the wall with Fasano, doubt we re-sign him.

He has served his purpose as an interim TE but he is not a No 1 TE.More like a blocking and No 2 or 3 TE .If he is expecting No 1 contract lets move on.

Ahhh, I remember he draft day trade to get him from the 'boys. We all saw him progress to the point of vomiting and fumbling all over himself at Atlanta.

Since then he's been solid. Someone will get a solid player for next year.

I'd like to bring in Jermichael Finely. I think he'll come in with a chip on his shoulder after leaving Greenbay.

If this comes down to Ireland pinching pennies, and he lets Fasano leave due to value, then puts in low bids on capable, competent TE replacements and loses out on those free agents because he pinches pennies... then he will deserve the desiccating blazing desert, bereft of touchdowns, that will be the 2013 Miami Dolphins offense

And he will deserve to be fired at the end of 2013.

Because when TDs make the world go around, you pay what you need to for them. I'll only judge him if he fails to bid enough to land the TE FA we need. You can;t be cheap at BOTH ends of the deal... who you let go (don';t want) AND the guy you want.

In a ****ing desert, when someone offers you a cup of water for $20 you shut up and pay it.

This says it all, per rotoworld...Cimini is a long time beat writer for the Jets and a Jet homer who is plugged in. By bargain youre probably talking something in the 5-6M per range but compared to what guys like Jimmy Graham is going to get or what Vernon Davis and Gronkowski got he can produce at a high level imo if he has a QB...which we have:

ESPN New York's Rich Cimini said "someone will get a great bargain" on impending free agent Dustin Keller, but it "probably won't be the Jets."
Keller played in just eight games in 2012 as he battled hamstring and ankle injuries, so that's expected to affect his price on the open market. The Jets "probably" won't get the bargain because they'll likely have to slap the franchise tag on Keller to keep him. Keller said in late December that he is "100 percent" opposed to the franchise tag, too. He'll be highly sought after as a solid red-zone option and stretcher of the seam.

That Cook kid for Tenn has flashed some talent, could stretch the seam for us. I also like what Bennet did for the Giants, Ireland loves adding ex Cowboys.

Fasano is a sort of poor man's Jeremy Shockey, meaning he is a good player, I also think he is a limited player.

IE, only sign him for a good deal, maybe slightly below market.

I think the writing was pretty clearly on the wall with Fasano. I don't see why they didn't just stick Clay on the field considering how utterly disinterested they seemed with playing to Fasano's strengths. He's good at taking play-action/pass block releases up-field, and they seemed insistent on making him a short dump-off receiver and split him out wide pretty heavily.

I think Fasano will make a team like the 49ers or Texans quite happy as a heavily used #2 TE.

Or the Titans, suspect Fasano will be the #2 guy for the teams about to lose a Te in FA.

He is a good player, but miscast in our offense imo

Sad to see Fasano go. He's been one of the more consistent players this team has had the last few years. Hopefully his replacement can match his blocking abilities and provide a bigger threat down the middle of the field.

Fasano is the guy who is solid year in and year out and doesn't get any accolades. He's also one of the best blocking tight ends in football I believe and is a nice red zone target. I'd re-sign him and bring in another guy who can be a seam threat.

The problem with Cook, and I like him since hes a South Carolina alum like myself, is he doesnt always give the effort blocking that he does receiving from play to play. The last 2 years PFF graded him exactly neutral on run blocking but its the play to play consistency that bothers me. This was one of the reasons he fell to the 2nd round of the draft during his draft year. Its not as bad as it was when he first came out when Jeff Fisher used to sub him out on an obvious run play but if he he applied his skills to run blocking as he does to pass blocking hed be very good.

Keller isnt a great run blocker either but Ive never seen his effort questioned and that bothers me.

I agree we should keep Fasano as a TE2. If we're going to use Te's the way GB uses TE's then it only makes sense to have at least 2 good ones + Egnew on the roster. Thats a position we need a major overhaul at anyway as far as adding quality depth. Its not a position you could scrape by with ok reserves like one used to 5-10 years ago...you need quality depth there to keep the defense playing the seems.

He's an old style TE. I'd rather have two slot TEs in there that demand mismatches. Something like Clay and Dustin Keller. Against that group you take what the defense gives you. If it's a base defense you spread them out and pass. If they go with safeties you run the ball with a heavy emphasis on PA.

The Patriots do this better than any other team.

This is where we'll miss him the most, and that is his blocking skills. I think y'all underestimate his usefulness to our running game.

As mediocre as he is, I get scared anytime Ireland lets someone go on offense, because he has seemingly been so HORRIBLE at replacing skill players. His eye for offensive talent is about as bad as it can get, and it scares the hell out of me for him to be looking for a replacement. If he takes the same cavalier attitude as he did about replacing Marshall....well....if you thought the offense was tough to look at last year, what til you see next year.

    :pity:

Hopefully our next starting TE will get higher than the 4/100 or whatever BPK's lady gave Fasano in the looks department.

They also don't have such bad offensive line play they need someone who can block real well and can send their boys out to catch more often.

The most ridiculous part of PFW's comment was that the Dolphins would look to replace him in house with Clay and Egnew. If he does not come back, there will be another UFA TE signed, or it will be a high draft priority. No way you go into 2013 with Clay and Egnew as 1 and 2 on the TE depth chart.
