Have you peeked at the likely schedule for next year? yeesh. Ryan is going to have to step up and be a top 10 guy for that happen, imo
This is such bull****. You make these ridiculous and baseless statements, then expect me to just accept them. You are the one that made up something, you are the one that has the burden of proof. And for the last time, i can't prove a negative, no one can, its called logic. Why didn't Peyton go to Tennessee? They offered him everything, including ownership...for life. Lemme guess, Ireland right? Jesus christ, man, you got serious, serious problems.
well to be honest...there are wayyy too many signs pointing to Manning not coming here BECAUSE of Irish, but even more of a factor was I believe Dan Marino's unwillingness to be the mouthpiece of the organization. When the guy's Idol and Miami's greatest player of all time doesn't go all out to push the guy to come here, I think that made it pretty easy for Elway to jump out and serenade Peyton. I think we did well to go 7-9 this season considering the circumstances, but im tired of these moral victory seasons, and I don't believe that Ireland is the guy to get us out of it, he is leading us to this prolonged stretch of mediocrity, why expect anything less?? Odrick, Misi, Sean Smith, Vontae Davis, trading up for a RB and not even an exceptional one...those are all things that give me ZERO hope that he's going to put all these millions and early picks to good use...I see Alfred Morris, a guy that was damn near undrafted, running wild for the Skins, this guy was in our own goddamn backyard and we didnt even THINK of taking a flyer on this guy?? but we trade up for Daniel Thomas..Irish cannot scout playmaking talent on the offensive side of the field, and guess what, that is where our major holes are...and for the all the money and picks we have dumped into our O-Line, they looked like a bunch of garbage out there today, we should have the wall of china out there with all the resources we've put into the Line...but hey, let's keep with the Irish show, who knows what the hell the guy has to do to get canned...its exasperating really...
The "We're almost there" part almost killed it....Its like its been the Miami dolphins motto since 1984...... Aside from that, there does seem to be a little something different in the air with Miami. Definitely feels like an upswing!...A real upswing too, not like the kind you try to fabricate to make yourself feel better either.
OT but does RG3 do anything besides screens and read options? This is the first Redskins game I've watched.
If I'm not mistaken, this was the first time since 2010 that we beat a team with a winning record. We took down two in Seattle and Cincinnati. Some positives. Some to remain unnamed negatives. We're on an upswing after adding a win and have the third (IIRC) youngest team in the league. I'm confident in the coaching. Right now we're waiting on QB development, and talent acquisition. Considering we drafted a QB turned WR turned QB and he played the way he did, I know which one I have more confidence in.
Than why are you optimistic after the worst 4 consecutive seasons since our franchise was founded? With the same guy controlling the personnel...
I doubt most of us do. However you can't have it both ways with the front office. This isn't a business that you get to learn on the job and Ireland doesn't get a pass for maybe or maybe not being Parcells lapdog. Frankly if he was a lapdog I have no respect for him which is much worse than disliking him. He is in over his head when it comes to drafting. When you have things like the Harbaugh, Bryant and Clarke nonsense hanging over you it does not bode well for bringing in needed FA's. Frankly Ross should give Philbin hand release for making everyone forget about Ocho Cinco and Hard Knocks.
Because of Ryan Tannehill, Joe Philbin and a good defense. I prefer to look at the positives whenever I can. I'm not happy with 4 consecutive losing seasons either. In fact, I'm very upset about it, but I'm not going to throws fits and tantrums acting like we've been 2-14 the past 4 years. There are plenty of good pieces on this team. Let's build off of it.
Wait'll next year!!! The rallying cry of beleaguered Brooklyn Dodgers fans for years back in the 20s and 30s.
But Jeffy makes the decisions and he likes safe picks, so its Olineman time again this draft, just wait and see.
Some on this board still suffer from that aged old virulent disease called "Blindus Homeritis". The cure for which is to be forced to watch Jeffy Ireland press conferences on a continuos loop for 2 days and see if one can still remain sane.
I'll admit i was off about this team. I thought 4 wins. 5 max. I still think we lack talent and depth in too many places to compete with the really good teams in this league. And I still don't believe Teflon Jeff is the right man to bring us back to glory, but it looks like he will have another offseason to prove me wrong. But overall, you were alot closer to predicting what this team would do than I was. So good job.
Yeah, strange to think we were a couple missed field goals away from a 10 win season, and a probable trip to the playoffs with a rookie QB, and almost no talent at WR, and a really shaky secondary. I think it speaks volumes to the job that Philbin and his staff did this year. This team played well beyond their talent level, it takes damn good coaching to be able to do that. Id think it really has the guys in the lockerroom buying in for next year again to what Philbin and company are selling. which is good. Hope it helps us in landing some free agents to bolster the secondary, and the WR position. If we can get a solid draft, and a solid free agency period this year, and if Tannehill continues to progress we should have a good year next year. However, with Mr. Irelands track record in free agency, and the draft... that's where my positive outlook ends. I hope he proves me wrong... The good news there, if he proves me wrong, we'll have a great year. If he doesnt, he'll likely be gone... next year.
This year's excuses: Rookie head coach Rookie QB Rebuilding Next year's excuses: Tough schedule young QB young head coach lack of talent because free agents needed to be resigned still rebuilding Outlook - "Next year looks great! This will be Ireland's make or break year!!!!" Repeat.
I'm fairly certain if we don't make the playoffs next season, most of us, we'll be ready to declare Ireland the problem.
Good thread FinD. Keep fighting the good fight. I'm ready to declare the enormous number of idiots on this forum the problem, this season. 7-9 with 2 or 3 other games we should of won, with probably the youngest squad in the league, a rookie QB-HC-DC, more early draft picks and cap space than any team in the league, etc. Let's talk draft strategies, FA targets, how do we get the team over the hump? There should be at worst, a sense of optimism, if not confidence and excitement, headed into the offseason. But...Mostly what I hear is a bunch of whiny, cryin *** beeyatches, wallowing in self pity and wanting to see someone fired so soothe their hurt feelings. It's sickening.
LOL. How about you and all the other doom and gloomers wait for the draft, FA, preseason, season, etc to play out before you start grabbing your ankles for the rest of the league?
*****. Cry. Moan. Weep. Complain. Whine. Repeat. This season just ended and you're already foaming at the mouth to discuss how next season was a failure. What are you a Jets fan? They're the ones in cap hell, with a garbage QB, aging/injured stars, and a fired GM. Go ahead, praise them for axing Tannembaum, you know you want to.
Relax, buddy. It was an f'ing joke. If you bothered to read any of my posts you'd see that I'm willing to give Teflon Jeff the offseason to see what he does before I declare anything for the upcoming season. But because I don't sugarcoat everything about this team like some do, I'm a doom and gloomer. Whatever.
It was a smart move on their part. I was hoping they'd let Ryan go too, but Woody was clever enough not to.
I agree. My point was that the Jets are an example of a team with a GM who deserves to be fired. The Dolphins are not.
I don't think we are terrible, but, I think we're as bad as a 28-0 loss in the last game of the season would indicate. We are as bad as 7 sacks allowed in that loss would indicate. We are as bad as 47 total yards rushing including 8 of those by your quarterback would indicate. We are as bad as only one sack and very little pressure by our defense would indicate. We are as bad as 167 rushing yards allowed to the opposing team would indicate. This final game of the season could be just written off as a bad game by the whole team or it could be seen as an indicator that we are not as close as we thought and there are a lot of things to improve before we get there.
I agree. While I believe there are plenty of things to be negative about regarding this team - and lot to be positive about also - yesterdays game means very little, IMO.
Aside from *****ing and moaning (which is getting tiresome) and jumping ship (not going to happen), there's nothing to do but wait for the offseason and pray you are right and I am wrong about Teflon Jeff.
I don't things are as bad as some would have you believe. Nor do I think things are quite as rosy as others might try to spin it. We're middle of the pack, but headed in the right direction IMHO.
Totally agree with coach Philbin, but Tannehill? I think it is fair to say Tannehill is guaranteed to start next season unless something unforeseen happens, but "proved" he is our future is a stretch imo. Under Tannehill Miami had a 6-9 record, scored 17.2 ppg (not counting the Jets victory in which Moore was nearly all of the game) and he was the 27th ranked QB (thanks to Smith and Kaeperncik not qualifying do to 218 attempts each or he would be 29th) and only ahead of the who's who list for starting turds (Locker, Weeden, Henne, Sanchez and Cassel). This is coming off a senior season in which he led the preseason #8 ranked Texas A&M to a 7-6 record and finished ranked 56th of 115 QBs who qualified. Tannehill looks no where near the level of Kaepernick, Newton, RG3, Luck or Wilson right now. All Tannehill has "proved" so far is he can lead Miami to a .400 winning percentage, average 17.2ppg, throw as many interceptions as touchdowns and statistically rank with the bottom of the barrel QBs.
This is right. The sugarcoaters and the doom and gloomers are both wrong. We're not as good or bad as either side would have you believe. Whether or not we're headed in the right direction remains to be seen. We seem to be stuck in 6-8 win purgatory.
It was close to being a better season than I expected but fell flat on it's face right in the ball park of 7 to 8 wins as I expected. Glad it wasn't a 2-4 win season at least there's hope. New England put a hurt on the hope part though that was just fugly.
Go right ahead. I've been completely consistent this whole time. I've always said that I didn't judge Ireland for the time Parcells was here, because I didn't know who did what and I'm sure Ireland drafted for Parcells blueprint. I said the Pouncey draft class was poor. I said this one was solid. I said I wanted to see Tannehill and another pick make real contributions for me to be on board with Ireland being retained and that happened. Now I'm saying since we have our coach and QB, if we don't make the playoffs next year it will be because of Ireland. The opposition has things so skewed, they don't even understand what they are opposing.
