    Ironic, no?

Crowder needs to start making plays and stop making headlines.

He had a bad year, but in no way do I think he is a bad player. He isn't a playmaker, and I don't think he ever will be, but as the #2 ILB I think he is definitely not a weakness. Anyone remember that one on one tackle he made against Larry Johnson in the open field a couple of seasons back? That was quality.

If a single one on one tackle a few years back is his highlight reel, should he really be opeing his mouth and calling out team-mates? :pity:

You think the church guy comment was a dig on John Beck? If so, pretty unfair, but also on some level true. All QBs say the right things off the field for the most part. One of them needs to prove it on the field.

Thats the problem with Crowder tho Phinfanuk. For every one highlight tackle Crowder makes you can attribute 10 to Zach. More was expected from Crowder. Hes not bad just average. Right now we need a replacement to step up and try and match #54's play. He doesnt.

Thats fine, it just lacks Merit coming from such an "Under-achiever".

Any kid on the street can say the same things Crowder said. Are you gonna listen to them?

    Why or why not?

Until we have a starting QB who has won the job through being good at what he's paid to do we won't have a leader on offence. It's not rocket science. Even if the leader on offence turns out to be a non-QB this thing won't settle down until we have a guy taking the snaps that has some degree of stability.

Even the most stable QB we've had since Dan Marino, Jay Fiedler, couldn't be an effective leader because there were always whispers and speculation about getting benched for somebody else.

I think this is a little disturbing, because it may signal that none of the QBs is really impressing his teammates in camp.

Personally from a Defensive standpoint, I would like to see Jason Ferguson take a leadership role on the D. It is likely going to be the most important position on Defense, and also a position we lack in depth. He is one of our elder statesmen, and I expect a lot out of him. I have little faith as of yet with what direction we are going on Defense, and think if we go 3-4 we are in deep **** if Ferguson is injured.

    Whitedolphin54,

Jason Ferguson a leader? I'm sorry dude, but that isn't ever going to happen. I like Fergie, and wish we had him the last two seasons while we played an undersized waste of space in Dewayne Robertson at Nose Tackle, but the guy isn't very vocal. He's a solid player who is going to play hard for you, but you rarely hear a peep from him. He will anchor the defense and improve your defense significantly, but he's not going to be a leader. Jason Taylor will continue to be the leader on the defensive side of the ball.

As for the offense, I think its time for Ronnie Brown to speak up.

I think what we may see is an offense led by the line, primarily by Justin Smiley and Samson Satele, until there's a QB good enough to be respected as a leader.

And that may be one of the QBs on the roster, but until he's playing well enough, I see the line leading the offense as a unit, with Smiley and Satele leading the way.

Crowder's right in that we have no clear leader on offense. That unit has been such a rotating door over the last decade that no one's had the chance to be to the offense what Zach Thomas (not JT) was to the defense.

There are four people on offense who can step up and claim leadership not just of the offense but of the team; Ronnie, Ginn, Long, and whoever winds up being our QB in the long term. Personally, I hope that Ronnie steps up. I can't think of a better guy to have as the face of this franchise. He's the best player on this team when he's used properly, he's well-liked, he runs his own charity events, and he's clearly having fun on the field. (Plowing over BJ Ward sure as hell looked fun to me.)

The trouble is that Crowder is the least qualified person on the defense to even think, let alone say, something like this. I'd listen to Scorpio Baber's opinion of the offense over Channing Crowder's. Step up and become the linebacker we thought you'd be, then maybe we'll listen to a member of the defense that consistently blew the leads the offense put up in 2007.

Maybe Ronnie will plow over Channing during a practice run.

I always thought he was a moron. He's the last person that should complain about anyone else. Torbor and Ayodele def have a good shot at putting him on the bench, if hes not traded or cut by then.

Yeah, I'm about done with Channing myself too, to be honest. His immature, fun side was tolerable while he seemed to be focused on the field... but since then I have seen mental lapses, lack of effort and heart at times, and then the off the field b.s.

There is also a fine line between timely jokes and not knowing when to be quiet... as with the London comment. Or commenting on the Offense.

Anyone have suggestions for my new Avatar pic? Channing's out and done as my avy. not based on this article... but based on all of the above.

Whose to say that Chad Henne or Josh McCown isn't churchgoing? Plus, he was commenting on the whole offense. So, whose to say any other member of the offense isn't churchgoing. The only reason why we think its a low blow is because we only know about Beck's spiritual life and not everyone else's.

    HAHAHAHA... what?!?

I dont even neccessarily think it was targeted at Beck...

All he was saying was that it doesnt matter so much as how the player is off the field... but how he performs on it that will establish the player as the leader of the offense...

Nothing Crowder said was wrong or offensive. This is how that interview went down to summerize:

Reporter: "Channing, with JT out, who do you think the leader of the defense is right now?"

Channing: "Well, we have some older vets and experienced guys like Holiday, Porter, and Ferg. I'm hoping to be able to step up into that role as well this year"

Reporter: "Who would you say the leader of the offense is right now"

Channing: "I'm not sure? We have a lot of young guys on that side of the ball, with not many vets or experienced players. Someone is going to have to step up and assume that role... and they are going to have to do it by performing on the field. All the off field stuff, being a great guy, and the Rah Rah stuff is nice, but it wont matter if the person cant perform on the field. The guy that steps up and performs will probably become the leader of the offense."

What in the world was wrong with that? Dont read into stuff so much bro...

Keep in mind that the REPORTER is asking Crowder these questions, and he is just answering them.

Its not like Crowder is calling the press to talk about this stuff. Hes asked a question, and he answers it.

Blame the REPORTER for asking the "Under-achiever" the question... not Crowder for answering it. And Crowder's answer wasnt even bad?

Who would YOU say the leader is on offense? Like him, I guess I would lean towards Ronnie... but I think we are all aware there is no 1 true established leader on offense right now.

Aqua, you need one of these:

he said you can be x or x or x, but IF you suck. From that you determine Channing said John Beck sucks? Is john the only person who goes to church? He wasn't even talking about QBs. He could be talking about Ronnie since he just said Ronnie may become the leader of the team. If you read it carefully, he says, essentially the leader must show it on the field, then after that the whole off the field church going stuff etc. comes into play.

How about answering with "I dont know yet" or "we ll see who emerges this year". Crowder went out of his way to give a bs answer and semi-backhand to his teammates with his answer. It was just completely uncalled for IMO. What is the point of that kind of answer? It doesnt help anybody and just starts drama. Just another example of Crowder being a mental midget IMO.

It's a low blow because Crowder had absolutely no reason to answer a question about the offense.

Porter hasnt demeaned his teammates. Yea he went after Cam but thats def a completely different situation. Keep in mind, Porter is also about 50 times better then Crowder and has accomplished much more. Crowder has done nothing but make dumb decisions, give stupid comments and under-achieve since hes been here. O yea I forgot dress in drag also.
