Here's another book thread: http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?11398-The-book-thread!!!!&highlight=book Seems like there are a few of them around here. What are you reading now? (Book-wise, not the computer screen or whatever, ha.)
One of my favorite series of books. Yes it has sequels and yes your post is OLD the author is a nut job though.
I recently started reading 1984 by George Orwell, by the way. Enjoying it. Also started reading Lolita by Nabokov. And then there's also Christopher Hitchens' Memoir Hitch-22 and his book Mortality that I've read through. I don't usually start multiple books at once but for some reason, I couldn't help myself here.
I've always meant to read 1984 but never got around to it....I feel with all the fanfare it receives I'd be disappointed. Is it actually as good as people make it out to be?
Depends on who you ask. For some, it's bland but I find it vivid. I've enjoyed it. I've read his essays though and learned a lot through Hitchens, who I'm a big fan of so maybe I'm slightly biased? Not sure but I like 1984.
Yes. If you enjoyed 1984 I think you'll definitely enjoy Animal Farm. I liked both though parts of 1984 were too much info dump for my taste. The story was so good it got me through those parts.
I just finished 'Comanche Moon' by Larry McMurtry. It was written as a prequel to Lonesome Dove. There are a lot of character and story discrepancies between the two which is strange. It was a good read but not on the level of Lonesome Dove which was a masterpiece.
It's not bad ... I read it as a teenager and again later as an adult. The symbolism is pretty over the top in it. I prefer 1984.
yes. If you like the dystopian genre I would recommend animal farm, 1984, and fahrenheit 451. I'm also reading a brave new world at the moment. So far it's pretty good.
Has anybody read A Game of Thrones? I don't read a ton of fantasy but it looks pretty interesting and I'm thinking about making it my next kindle download.
my dads read pretty much the whole series. I can ask him, but I'm guessing since they are big *** books they must be interesting enough haha.
I love the tv series, and downloaded the books. However when i saw the amount of pages i couldnt get through the first chapter for some reason. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Page number doesn't bother me. I read the uncut version of the The Stand last summer, that was one long book. I think it comes in close to 1000 pages.
In an attempt to balance out the flighty, feminine energy of the town I live in, "Green Hills of Africa" by Hemingway. However, "The Sorceress" by Jules Michelet is definitely the most intriguing book I've read this year. It's about the plight of women who turned to witchcraft during the middle ages in France...A haunting account that lends sympathy to the pagan lifestyle.
