I can see the logic behind McCown, but what I don't like about him is he hasnt really done much over the years. Sure he's been on some pretty awful teams, but I'd rather see us give Beck a shot this year as long as he performs well throughout camp and the preseason. Id much rather see what we have in last years 2nd round pick first.

My boy Josh will start this season, if only just because he's my boy Josh, that should be enough for any good fan.

Which is why I dont think I want him to start this year. At this point, we are ANOTHER pretty awful team he could be starting on. Nothing would have changed. If Beck has shown improvement, let him start.

They want to win right away, this won't be like last year. I want to see the guy who gives us the best chance to win, which is probably Mccown.

Henne will win the back-up J-O-B at some point during the season I think. One of these guys will be the odd man out next year.

Whichever QB can orchestrate TD drives. TD drives are something that have been missing from Miami's offense. It's sad a sad state of affairs when we get as excited for field goals as a Colts or Pats fan gets about a TD.

Why do they want to win right away?

If the did, they should have gone out and picked up a better QB.

Why not start Beck to see what you have got and if he goes down in a flame of glory, throw in the other Rook.

Didn't your boy Herm teach you anything in his stint with the Jets?

He did... but a 1-15 team isn't playing to make the playoffs with no deep threats, no corners and a stable of rookie QBs.

(He also said it during the middle of the season).

I am not saying this is a lost season for the Dolphins, because anything can happen, but resting it on a 28 year career backup QB to "win now" just seems silly.

The fans don't want to see Josh, they want to see Beck and Henne.

You've got two young Quarterbacks and you don't really know what either one is capable of at the NFL level, so in my mind there is no reason to start Josh McCown. McCown should be there to help teach the young QB's and to be there in emergency situations.

When it comes down to Beck or Henne, I think you have to give Beck the job as you spent a second rounder on him last season and cannot fairly judge him in the limited time he saw the field.

What pride? 1-15 pride? Or scrub backup QB pride?

Either way, the Dolphins need to see what they have, NOW not LATER.

    Sorry for the double post.

What Pride? The Jets organization can't understand this concept, but the Miami Dolphins are still the wiinningest franchise in the history of the NFL % wise.

    124 and BZ,

Here's the problem with both your points. You talk of Josh McCown as if he's a 35 year old career backup whose reached his potential in the NFL long ago. Fact of the matter is he's just under 2 years older than John Beck, and has demonstrated an ability to move the ball and put points on the board. At this age, it's still possible for him to eliminate the mistakes such as interceptions that have plauged him in his short career and advance to the next level. Likely to happen? Maybe not. But possible? Yes. That's why it's an open QB competition and not absurd to suggest Josh McCown get the nod.

He's two years older than Beck because Beck decided to go find Jesus or something of that sort. He still has much more wear and tear on his body. He has played for **** teams his entire career, and he is no different position now. Why would you go with him, a player who has gotten hurt and hasn't proven to be a WINNER over one of the young kids you spent second round draft picks on?

This team is not a win-now team. This team is rebuilding. You need to see what you have in one of your two second round picks, if not both of them by playing them both depending on the one who starts the season fairs.

Josh McCown is nothing but a Back-up QB who is good for some spot start duty. He is not a starting Quarterback in this league. If he was, he wouldn't be bouncing around his entire career.

No team should be classified as a Win Now team or not a Win Now team during the offseason. Given past amazing turnarounds that have happened in the NFL and teams coming out of nowhere to make a playoff run (see the Saints in 2006) no team is ever "not a win now team" until they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Until that point you start the QB that gives you the best chance to win the game. If it's Josh McCown he's the guy you start. If it gets to be week 10, and you have 2 wins under your belt, then you play rookies to see what you got. But not until then do you play a rookie or any other QB for that matter who has not earned the starting job.

And your thoughts on Josh McCown are opinion, not fact. Unless you have watched every Cardinals game or Radiers game he played in, I don't think you can even come close to evaluating his talent level. As you said, he played on garbage teams. Maybe with some good coaching and a better team he will have something more than backup talent to show us.

Obviously they are fact is no NFL General Manager and team have brought him in for a chance at becoming the starting Quarterback for an extended period of time. If the Cardinals believed in him so much, why was he kicked the curb? Why has nobody picked him up and said "here is the job kid, take it". Sure you will have people who come out of nowhere like Warner and Gannon, but those guys were also surrounded by great talent when they finally broke through and played well.

Josh McCown on Miami? Comeon now. John Beck is going to be a better Quarterback than Josh McCown in 2008 and beyond. Parcells will tell his toy puppet Sparano whats right and to make sure Beck or Henne get the job.

You are wrong. The Dolphins did. Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano have all said it's an open QB competition in Miami. An open QB competition = "a chance at becoming a starting QB for an extended period of time". And it was none other than Parcells who gave him the chance.

If you are saying that John Beck is the better QB than Josh McCown, maybe that's an argument you can make even though it's far to early to say. But the implication that Miami should start one of the younger QBs whether they earn the job or not is just not going to happen.

Not to be a downer, but the jets won the superbowl in 1969, we last won it in what 1974??? If you don't win the superbowl, you lose. We both have nothing to really go crazy about in a long time. Yeah we made it to the superbowl a couple of more times, but we lost. And I really don't think our organization has know pride since Shula left.

just to set your ill informed self straight.. he went and did missionary work in a foreign country helping poor people. He gave them two years of his life.. didn't even know the language when he arrived. Please do not demean or diminish what he did just so you can make a flippant comment.

Do you seriously its an open QB competition? Parcells does not like Beck, or else he wouldn't have spent a 2nd rounder on Henne. He brought in McCown because you have to have a veteran Quarterback with experience just in case something happens. You HAVE to. I believe Henne will start, but believe Beck should.

Other than Preseason games, I don't expect McCown to sniff the field barring injury, and rightfully so.

And he did this why? Oh, becuase he is a Mormon and huge on the entire religious aspect of things. Good for him. He still, professionally, threw away two years of his life. Maybe that makes him sleep better at night or feel better about himself? Frankly I don't know and don't care. The only thing that matters when talking on an NFL message board is the fact he disappeared from football and threw away two years of his NFL career away.

    Nice work Desides.

And as NJ said, both franchises have done nothing of importance since 1974. There are now 31 losers and one winner. Nobody remembers the 12-4 seasons and playoff loses except the fans of those teams. Nobody should be satisified with anything less than a championship.

I don't buy that whatsoever, NJFINSFAN1. A winning tradition and season means everything to the organizations participating. It's what builds a fan base and generates interest, pride and income for the owners and players. I'm really astonished at this type attitude. The superbowl is not the holy grail to me if my team isn't in it. In fact, I only watch it if the weather is bad. On SB sundays of late, if it's not to cold, you'll find me on the river fishing. That's how I feel about the superbowl if the Phins aren't there. I say; FTSB, if Miami hasn't had a part in making the playoffs interesting.

Then you should consider yourself a fan of just the Miami Dolphins and certainly not Football or the NFL. Millions and millions of people sit down to watch the Super Bowl, including all of the diehard Football / NFL fans. Its fine to just be a fan of a team and not watch any other game than theres, thats fine, but strange. Then again I can't really talk beacuse in Baseball I watch the Yankees and nobody else. Can't sit there and watch Baseball without my team in it.
