Don't forget alcohol bc it makes you beat your wife, pitbulls bc they're trained for fighting, cold medicine bc people make meth and the internet bc people watch kiddie porn.

Clearly these inanimate objects are the problem.

There are some ****ed up people in this world, no doubt that one.

Feel bad for those families who lost their precious loved ones today.

The thing is banning auto and semi-auto weapons create a (bigger?) niche for them on the black market.

A gun isn't simply an inanimate object. It's an object whose sole purpose is to kill. That's it's intended use. It serves no other purpose.

That may be, but the fact is the perpertrators of these mass shootings wouldn't have needed a black market because they aren't criminals who would always be picked up on a background check.

Sure, gangbangers and mobsters might always have a black amrket for guns but they aren't the people commiting these types of crimes. If you ban the sale of these kinds of weapons you would keep them out of the hands of the mentally unstable, which is the biggest problem.

A gun was invented to kill people. If you fire it to "protect" yourself, that is the likely result presuming you hit your target.

No. The primary action is you protecting yourself. The fact that someone might die is the result, but that's their fault.

    Uhm, no.

Gunpowder, and thus guns, were invented as instruments of war, for military use.

But your line of thinking is why a rational, serious discussion on these issues doesn't happen in this country. If you won't even acknowledge that a gun's intended purpose is to fire a bullet that kills or seriously wounds its target then I don;t know what to say to you.

lol Ok buddy. So what's next do we outlaw knives? Will cooks have to use plastic utensils? How are you going to protect yourself when someone runs up on you with a freshly widdled spear?

What guns are used for by many rational people in this country, is home defense.

The fact that you "lol" anyone who disagrees with you tells me all I need to know.

And no, we don;t ban knives because a knife has a million other uses besides killing people. And sure, people get stabbed, but the tragedy that happened today would not and could not have happened with a knife.

I wish we could eliminate all murders, but that's impossible. What we can do is eliminate, or at elast rgeatly reduce the kind of mass killings that we saw today. Such things are only possible with guns or bombs.

You can keep knives. A man in China slashed 22 school kids in a mass attack. Not a single death. Those kid's parents got to hug them that night. Keep the knives. Control the guns. There's your line.

I am emotional. I have a 4 years old a 2 year old and my wife is a 4th grade teacher.

But that has nothing to do with the simple fact that this tragedy today could only occur because the guy was able to get a gun, legally I might add.

You can only kill 20 people in a matter of minutes with a gun or a bomb.

You're a funny guy what can I say.

You just completely miss the big picture on this whole issue, man.

To the people who think we should just outlaw guns or make them much harder to get them, all I can say is how's the war on drugs going?

wow, seriously? check your facts, that happened in 1996, and nothing of the sort has happened since. Since that event ownership of handguns was made illegal, we learnt from it.

Regardless of anyone's opinions on guns, you have to admit the current system isn't working, yes? I mean, we're averaging an alarming number of these incidents every few years. This isn't a problem that just fixes itself.

  23. Thats not a solid postion. You cant say less gun crimes resolves an issue when you make guns less available if the rate of violent crimes has not decreased. What are you solving if the criminals just changed weapons. You still have the same amount of violent crimes your murder rate has not gone down, the only thing you got is a lesser percentage of it was done by guns. That solves nothing.

Since Columbine, 31 mass shootings in the US. 14 in the rest of the world combined.

Finland is the only other country in the world with more than one, and they had 2.

this is a fairly uniquely American problem, and guns are the biggest factor. There are nutcases and mentally ill people everywhere. People get angry everywhere, but only here can you get a a gun, legally, virtually imemediately to use in that moment of madness or passion.

I know, i know, you and you're liberal friends wish we were other countries, but were not. And I want better gun control too, but I don't want to abolish the 2nd amendment, its who we are and I'm tired of little piss ants whining because we ain't more like Europe. It sickens me.

And also people like you think you abolish owning guns legally will solve the problem while ignoring the elephant in the room that is the deteriorating mental health crisis going on this country, but yeah, its all the guns fault. Unreal man how shortsighted some are the real issues facing this country.

No, you're missing the big issue.

Only in this country are people able to legally obtain the weaponry that allows them to commit these kinds of crimes.

If you can simply accept that we just have to live with dozems of people being killed at the movies and the mall and at school because your right to guns is too important then you and me are never going to see eye to eye.

Maybe the guy who shot 20 children should be the person that sickens you today.

And yes, we have a mental health problem in this country. If only everyone had access to medical care that included mental health we could start to solve this problem. But let me guess, you're against that too.

    Some would, certainly.

But it wouldn't be as easy. It would take more time and you'd be more likely to catch the criminal before he actually committed the murders.

Gun control won't solve everything, but that's not a reason to do nothing.

    How would they get them?

To use Fin D's argument from a couple weeks ago; Bazookas are illegal, can I get one of those?

People like to think that there are "Black Markets" down certain back-alleys. That's not really how it works.

  37. Or posion, arsen, etc... point is if someone wants to hurt others they will find a way and a ban on gun ownership wont change that. The proof is in the statistical data. When DC had some of the strictest gun laws in the nation it also had the highest murder rate per capita. I respect why you want to restrict gun ownership but its the wrong solution.
