Agreed. Depth is a huge issue. Watching the Pats last night, it's amazing how they can lose key players and not miss a beat. Whether it's their O-Line or defensive backs, they plug guys in and still perform at a high level. Must be nice.

I knew which play he meant. It's just sad what Dolphins fans consider 'open' these days. Tom Brady misses a couple truly OPEN deep passes a game nowadays yet they still recover. Us? A covered 5'10" receiver is open for us.

    the poor house

i just dont get why people have so much faith in Bess and Hartline they dont have the wow factor nor do they make defenses miss .

they are the least tallented wrs we have ever had.

I remember wrs making big plays but i cant give you any reason these guys are respected wrs around the league.

the number of touchdowns need to bee included when we talk about playmakers
there is a stat somewhere that had Miami dead last in touchdowns .

for some reason or another , people seem to think way too highly of our wrs when they are horible to watch .

these guys are no way are a #2 and #3 wrs if we want to make a splash then we should replace all of our wrs and get some guys that scare oposing defenses.

I dont dislike the players but lets be honest we dont have very many touchdowns.

More questions than answers , again , and certainly not enough positive answers imo for how long this team has been in rebuild mode. At some point the person in charge should be held accountable , again imo. That time is now for me. I don't think it happens to be honest.

One of my pet peeves outside of the lack of WR playmakers is the defense, as good as they can be, they are the most unoppertunistic defense I have ever seen, and don't help the offense like say NE gets help. NE plays at least 3 or 4 (it seems) short fields every game, and hence even if they score twice on those drives that is the difference in their huge point totals. If they score on all 4 that is why we see them have so many blowouts.

Our defense has to share some of the blame for the offenses failures. This offense can't sustain 60-80 yard drives and win games. They just aren't skilled enough.

IMO it is moronic to even think that we dont need a WR… We NEED more then one WR to be frank. OR receivers are the worst in the NFL. And before we get into stats that is a product of only having two WR's. Hartline would be a great 3rd option… the guy cant make a play to save his life. Which leads me to another point. Other then Wake and Jones we have ZERO playmakers on this team. ZERO… that is the problem.

It doesn't have to be perfect to beat those good teams, it just has to make no more mistakes than the other team. The Dolphins aren't doing that. In each of these games against the good teams the Dolphins are making 2-3 times as many damaging unforced blunders as the other team.

But we don't have to play a perfect game, not at all, we merely need to make the football 101 plays consistently.

That is the 5% Fineas, we are neck and neck, the 5% pops up, and we lose the game.

To me, it is not talent per se, it is a lack of dedication to their craft.

True story, Cam Wake tweeted out that he was having spinach and salmon for supper, Rook Shelby tweeted back "eat a cheeseburger finally!"

Shelby was trying to poke fun at Wake, but to me the difference is blaringly obvious, Wake is 110% in, no room for messing around not even a bit, the rest of the team I'm not so sure they buy into that approach

And that is the difference between us and them, and has been, not the cheeseburger, but the "total effort" approach.

While Chad Johnson was lighting it up in Cincy, he routinely ate McDonalds. We simply just don't have the talent. Old-timey or folksy musings on "effort" and dedication are no replacements for talent on this team.

I'm not convinced recovering fumbles is all luck.

Instincts, quickness and positional awareness are all factors.

There is a reason JT holds the record for defensive TDs at his position...

    And where is he now?

    Did the Bengals win anything?

Fundamentals, not effort, dedication is a key element, if one does not grasp their importance then I don't know what to tell you.

Perhaps football is not your sport?

No season is a failure that sees the addition of a franchise QB and worthwhile HC..... but then again what is Omar if he isn't flappin' his lips.

it is hard to win, when you don't force TOs and your only chance to get off the field is winning the 3rd down battle.....many times I watch the games and I am freaking praying for our D to make a splash play, a td intercetpion, a big hit with fumble&recovery, something like that...... but nothing...

It is not the D the problem of this team, this for sure...but they have a big problem with this TO thing and it is not a new thing, now it is years that is going on...and seeing how coach Nolan goes to Atlanta and boom, there is a turnover festival, suggests some sad problem with our players I guess

They are decent-good receivers forced into roles that they don't have the skill set for ( through no fault of their own.) Hartline is a very good #3 possibly a good #2. Bess is a slot guy.

Christ! It's nonsense like this thread why I don't hang out here much anymore and post even less. To say we only have 4 or 5 guys that have developed is just ridiculous. This teams single biggest problem is at wide reciever and that is why we can't get points on the board. Not much else to it.

Give us two burners who can catch and run routes and you'll see Hartline and Bess catch everything thrown at them. They are playing on a compressed field. Stretch it before you judge them.

    Omar who? The tent maker?

The difference between NE's D and ours is that they can count on 24-28 pts a game from their offense and plan their strategy accordingly. They can play soft and wait for mistakes & TO opportunities, or they can get aggressive knowing the offense has their back if they give up a big play or two. They are usually playing with a lead b/c Brady and co can score in bunches. It's a totally different set of challenges for them.

Our defense knows we wont be scoring any more than 14-17 pts. It's a tremendous amount of pressure to bear week in and week out. I understand the need to force TOs and create short fields. But defensively we're good enough to where if we could score 17 pts on offense w/o turning the ball over we'd be damn near undefeated right now.

Haven't you heard? Any position where we don't have a perennial Pro Bowler is a major need.

PFF only has 3 Dolphins offensive players in the top 32 at their position and Tannehill is one of them?

    Nice job Jeff.

Yes, but it's like judging a horse that's carrying extra weight. Give him a normal-size jockey and you'll see what he's really capable of.
Just my opinion. Don't really know, and frankly, I don't trust Ireland to put my theory to the test.

Most Dolphin fans agree with that but does our GM understand we need playmakers ? He didn't get that last offseason, he just said some guys need to step up, even though they don't have the talent.

The more I think about his "4s 5s and 6s" comment the more it makes you think he is either as clueless as the owner, or a sadist enjoying inflicting pain on Dolphins fans.
