Why would that be unfortunate? Is this supposed to be some sort of cult where everybody thinks the same?

People are certainly free to believe whatever they please. It is just that those individuals who think this team has a lot of talent and the losing is all the result of bad coaching, are wrong.

Teams with a lot of talent don't go 25-36 over a three plus year period. This is a team with a few talented players and a lot of mediocre or below average NFL players. I know this simply by looking at their record.

It doesn't help that we've just tied the franchise record for most losing seasons in a row at 4, which last happened during the 1966-1969 expansion years. Ireland should be fired for that reason alone. The only reason we haven't finished in last every year is because the Bills have been just as awful in finding talent.

Actually he's right. Jacobs wasn't even guaranteed to make the roster when he signed. He was big back who was signed for a modest amount as insurance because Gore has been injury-plagued these past few years. He had only been activated for 2 games all year before he was suspended today. We had Hunter and Dixon already. Hunter was young and we didn't want to trust the whole workload to him in case of a injury to Gore and Dixon was still inconsistent, though he stepped up this off-sesson and made the team when clearly the odds were in Jacobs favor.

LaMichael James wasn't needed until Kendall Hunter got hurt. We had the league's best rushing attack with Gore and Hunter. We had Jacobs not even suiting up for games. No need to throw a rookie into the mix just for the sake of it. Same with Jenkins. He has Moss, Crabs, Manningham, and Kyle Williams ahead of him on the depth chart. We don't even use 4 WR sets because we have two good TEs. We rarely use 3 WR sets because of VD. And he doesn't play ST. He wasn't needed until Williams went on IR and Manningham went down with that shoulder injury this past week.

Manningham has played great, but we rotate all 4 of our WRs. Until Williams got hurt, they all saw snaps and all contributed. We're last in the league in pass attempts(atleast we were last time I checked) by a significant amount. You can't judge his impact based off his stats. He's defintely added the explosive element on the outside to compliment Crabs. And he's was a bargain considering the guy who he replaced signed with the Redskins for a lot more more and is probably they're 3rd or 4th best WR.

Moss was signed for so cheap, anything he gives us is a bonus really. But he's been great in the locker room and young guys like Jenkins and Williams have benefited from his presence. Crabs too. Maybe not the deep threat he once was but he still draws a attention, which frees up others when he's on the field.

Our free agents signings were modest. Moss, MM, and Jacobs. Then some low key signings of young DBs with potential like Darcel McBath and Perrish Cox. And a vet OG in Leonard Davis to back-up the interior O-Line. Most of the talent though was already in place and established so all of those signings except Moss and MM have had relatively no impact.

Our draft was the same way. AJ Jenkins needs to get stronger. I knew that when we drafted him. He's built like a PG, not a NFL WR. But he has great speed and potential and Baalke liked him so he was the pick. But he wasn't picked to contribute immediately. And by saying Moss and MM, we could essentially "red-shirt" him and get him ready for 2013, since Moss is only on a one year deal and probably won't be back. The same with James. We already had 4 RBs on the roster when he was drafted. He was a luxury pick. A guy you could plug in all over the place in a offense and have teams worried about how to defend him. He was "red-shirting" as well until Hunter went on IR and Jacobs decided to rant on Twitter about him rotting away on our team. All of our draft picks have established starters in front of them. Trenton Robinson, Cam Johnson, Joe Looney, all those guys are young and learning from vets ahead of them on the depth chart. That's what the draft should be used for. If your always trying to find immediate help from all your picks, than your doing something wrong personnel wise. In a perfect world, you should be able to draft and develop players first before counting on them to contribute on Sundays.

Hey if he meant your roster, I agree. I was under the impression he meant the Dolphins roster.

The team's performance since and including 2008 has correlated almost perfectly with the performance of its QB as measured by QB rating. If there were a problem with talent overall, and not just at QB, the team would've bucked the league-wide trend of performing well when it got good QB play, and good QB play wouldn't have mattered like it did.

You don't like the record. We get it. But your analysis is extremely superficial if you're allowing the record, in itself, to tell you how much talent the team has overall. The truth of the matter is that teams with poor QBs don't play well, regardless of how much talent they have elsewhere.

Now, if you want to come back and say QB is part of the problem with talent, wonderful, we're in full agreement. But don't tell me there's a problem with overall talent when the objective evidence refutes that.

These posts are funny. They simultaneously "end" the thread, while bumping it to the top of the list and thereby breathing as much life into it as possible.

Foolishness. Much of the 49ers success is due to talented players, who existed BEFORE 2008, getting the coaching they needed to achieve their fullest potential. Miami hasn't "replicated" San Fran's success b/c we don't have NINE PRO BOWLERS on the roster to build around who were already on the goddam team..... but apparently now everything that happened pre-2008 is also Ireland's fault.

Cool, lets hit up FA and go get at least Bowe then. Draft a WR in the first or 2nd round too. grab a bunch of ****ing o lineman late to groom and teach and have learn instead of throwing them into the fire.

I'll agree with the assessment that we're always drafting to plug holes instead of drafting to improve.

Why, Serpico? What's hard to understand about it WADR? The players we brought in were mostly 1 year contract players, IE: bandaids to hold us over till either our young players or 2012 rookies stepped up or the 2013 offseason arrived when we'll have more financial freedom to appropriately address needs, and to do so after having at least given the new coaching staff a year to work with the team & players we already have. Young guys did in deep step up, making those temporary bandaids not necessary, so we tossed those bandaids as we should. You act like it's not better to be safe than sorry.

Why do people do this? Clearly, if you’re making another post the thread hasn't ended.

**edit** looks like Shou beat me to it.

I think the answer is a bit more in the middle. The "we have no talent" mantra is overwrought, but the years where we have gotten good QB play (2008 and last year with Moore) gave us better records (using 6-6 under Moore) but not especially good teams, either. Five years on that's a bit of a problem. This team needs better QB play in conjunction with a few more playmakers.
