I was just coming here to read opinions about this game. I'm thinking about buying it with a gift certificate I got for my birthday.

I'm hearing pretty good things about FC3, especially the survival aspects.

it does look like Skyrim with guns, as it's being advertised to be. Probably not as much time spent on it though. The guy in that video seems to think you can get around 50 hours or so.

After the hype and fail of Far Cry 2, I will wait for user reviews before even considering it. It looks promising, but so did Far Cry 2, even more so than FC3 in my opinion. Ultimately it turned out to be a repetitive grind with poor AI.

Personally, I would wait for the community to review it first - can't trust GameSpot, Game Trailers, and IGN anymore.

So far the game is alot of fun. Plays sort of like Dead Island but with much more to do and better graphics. Oh and no zombies.

    How far in are you?

Is it getting redundant? How is the AI?

The guy that does this video is quite entertaining. He's probably going to do the whole game thru a series of clips... Recommend subscribing to him. Wonder how much money he makes doing these?

I like what I'm seeing so far. Much better than the braindead FC2.

the AI does look kinda silly. You can throw rocks and distract them while they are looking at you throwing a rock at them.

AI isn't super intelligent but the game is still great and I spend lots of time just messing around and exploring.

been playing this the last three nights. It's fun. Stealth is a big part of the game if you're to be efficiently successful. Although, sometimes I prefer to just go in with all guns blazing. Wildlife, tigers... take you down faster than a guy with a gun though. I started to just clear the whole first island of the red flags but realize that you get more xp from the main missions than the side stuff if we're going by time spent on each activity.

I do wish the lootpouch inventory was managed better. Plants/animal skins don't combine in your inventory. So if you have 32 slots, each slot is taken up by one plant each (one color)... since you use plants/skins to craft, it's a poorly managed process. I mean six plants (same color) takes up six slots? ******ed.

I'm about 16 hours or so in and like the game so far. It's not really Skyrim-ish, more just like an open world shooter. You skill up, and craft ammo holders and syringes but that's about it as far as "developing a character."

For stealth, I usually take down the first couple of guys before I get spotted.

    Pros for me:
The game moves fast overall and doesn't overdo the cut scenes. Stuff like picking plants happens quickly.
    Flamming arrows are pretty cool.
I like the pace and speed of the game.
I enjoy hunting the animals a lot. Fun with a sniper, AK47 or bow.
    Gorgeous scenery.
Enough side mission type stuff to add variety. Some timed car type stuff, hunting, raiding compounds, climbing radio towers, etc.
Cool moments happen a lot. Yesterday I stood on a boot, injected myself with a syringe to spot a shark underwater, shot the shark, injected myself with a syringe to swim longer, swam to the bottom of the "ocean", skinned the shark and then used it's skin to craft a larger wallet.

    Cons:
Some of the items that require crafting can feel frustrating. Why do I need to kill two boar just to have a larger wallet? or larger loot sack?
As for money, I spend it mostly on ammo. There isn't a real good reason to buy things. You can get guns for free if you do the radio tower segments.
In fact, for better or worse, I wish the game was more like Skyrim. I sometimes get bored of killing the same pirates over and over.
The story is lame and you can't skip the cutscenes.

There is a lot of fighting, often. For some this might take adjusting too. You can finish killing a bunch of pirates skillfully in "stealth mode," and then turn around and get mauled by a tiger or komodo dragon.

In all, not as in depth as other open world games but a fun shooter to play on campaign mode. Honestly, Just Cause 2 might be the better version of this type of game, but it's still worth putting ~30 hours into.

Yeah, there really is no point to having cash other than to refill your ammo. I was playing poker in the game the other night for a while. I miss playing poker online for real money :pity:

Once you are in a big fire fight, the game gets difficult to a degree and a little clanky (for lack of a better word). I mean you go from CODBO2 to this and you're in a world of hurt. Needing to inject meds takes a long time. Reloading takes a long time. Switching weps takes a long time. I've taken down the whole first island... all the red flags are removed. I've cleared all the radio towers. I've got all four weapon slots open. My next task will be to max out my ammo load so I'm not having to refill every 5 minutes. There are special weapons that you do use your money for so keep that in mind (I won't ruin the surprise). I forgot about that earlier. But I like going with a suppressor on a sniper rifle and taking down bad guys from distance. As long as you move stealthly and stay in brush you shouldn't be spotted that way. Move around the camp on the outside looking for good angles and high ground. Above all, snipe out the alarms first. And shooting out whatever caged animal you see in the camp makes for A+ entertainment when the beast goes crazy on the bad guys.

Money is good for signature weapons, body armor and weapon upgrades. I'm making progress in the game but I think I'm still a few hours from being done.

Also awesome tip on the animal cages, Paul. I have been enjoying that ever since you posted it.
