And he was drafted by Dallas in the 11th round.

But, he wouldn't have a chance against Ireland.

Depends on how complicated you think this stuff actually is.

If you have good scouts (who do most of the work) and it's just about assigning value to positions and draft picks, and the salesmanship part of wooing free agents, I don;t see why Riley, with adequate time to prepare couldn't at least be competent.

He is unquestionably skilled at recognizing athletic talent and selling that talent on his team.

I don't see how he would go against Ireland's experience. He wouldn't have a chance.

This is stupid considering it's never going to happen, though.

How can a guy like Jim Harbaugh at 40 years old be one of the best coaches in the NFL? Or Mike Tomlin? How do those guys ever outcoach the likes of Tom Coughlin, Norv Turner, and various other older coaches?

    Experience doesn't trump everything

I know we're talking about the whole process but honestly, I think I could do better job in free agency than Jeff Ireland simply by being less abrasive. I think players would rather deal with a complete incompetent boob such as myself than the arrogant prick that is Jeff Ireland.

In this case, against a guy who has no experience what so ever in the NFL, it does.

Don't be so sure. There is a growing faction that wants Pat Riley as the next GM of the Miami Dolphins.

    I'm down.

Yes... but a GM is only as good as his starting quarterback from a long term perspective.

Does anyone else wonder how Arizona is going to be able to keep Larry Fitz from not wanting to be traded...

That team has to draft a Qb, is he really gonna wanna ride with that?? Again??

If I was them I would think about getting some value out of Fitz..

Fitz just isn't the type to make that demand.

And if you think about it the Arizona Cardinals probably really ARE just a quarterback away. Well, plus some OL aid. I mean that defense has the ability to play stellar football and on offense they've got Larry Fitzgerald.

I think we've found a worse proposed replacement GM option than Bill Polian, finally.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

My only hope at this point seems to be if Ross watched Hard Knocks and heard Ireland tell King he not only traded away his best WR, he also had no plan to replace him. Nothing about that says win now.

The Dolphins only stole a second round pick if they actually draft a player with that pick who can come in and contribute to the team. Ireland already wasted a first round pick on Davis in the first place, and his second round selections overs the past five years have been average at best and terrible at worst.

So'd we figure it out yet guys? Did we come to a final unanimous answer on Jeff being the cause of all evil or the cure for all ills?

He is trying to emulate Bill Belichick's approach. You see, he noticed Bill always turns a pick into multiple lower picks by trading down. So Jeff figured he'd do it. Only Jeff is doing it wrong. He just turns a 1st round pick (Vontae) into a 2nd round pick. Or 2nds to 3rds (Marshall). He forgets to pick up the extra pick.

The real problem is, he comes from a Bill system that works for Bill Parcells and Bll Belichick's, but not guys named Jeff.

Dimitroff is kicking *** and taking names. Since he joined the Falcons he has retained 79% of his draft picks and only 4 of the 8 players no longer on the team are FA. 90% of his draft picks can play in this league.
