You're on top of the news items as always! Thanks for doing that. But as far as the content of this article goes, why on earth would Miami trade an older (football wise) stud DE/OLB for an older mediocre DE/OLB? They offer Bobby Carpenter, now we can talk...
Bobby carpenter hasn't done anything as a pro yet & i'm a big time ohio state fan, but I don't know if i'm ready to trade for him.
I think the trade that would probably make more sense would be JT for RW.. Ellis is waya way way on the downside of his career while JT is a year removed from DPOY. Carpenter has not proved to be anything special and if our staff like him then we should look at either one of those players over Ellis.
That would make sense for both teams, Dallas is a contender, and ZT is there and RW is going to be replaced next season anyway, so adding JT who will retire, for RW who will be gone is a win-win for both teams. The staff has said that RW has lost his fire though, so who knows?
Even with our current safety corps I dont want Roy "Overrated" Williams on my team. This guy making the probowl last season was just insane. He can go horsecollar some WRs for another team thanks. Carpenter would make the most sense, but I dont think Dallas wants to let him go. Id rather just get a 2-3 rounder rather than a player atm.
I would, it makes sense to me at least, unless you calculate that an unhappy yet playing JT this season would be worth some "Wins" or at least keeping games close?
As usual, the Herald doesn't have a clue as to what is a good deal and what is not... If I'm Jerry Jones and this deal is proposed, I'm jumping in as quick as I can...Let's see a 32 yr old so-so OLB/DE who happens to be disgruntled now for a 34 yr old 6 time Pro bowler and recent DPOY winner, who also happens to have a sparkling clean off-field reputation and hasn't shown that he's slowing down at all. Now, of course the one strike against JT is that he only wants to play one more year, but what a lose-lose deal this would be for the Fins...
Ellis makes little sense because of his age as other have pointed out. If they want to talk about Roy Williams and Carpenter and a low round pick I might be willing to talk. Its not spectacular but quality depth is always a good thing
Roy Williams sucks!!! We dont want that overrated horsecollaring total pass liability guy. When your taking your safety off the field in passing situations something is wrong. He has declined consistently the last few years. Id rather just pass on him and take a 2-3.
All I'm saying is that Carpenter is a way better option than Ellis. He's still young and has potential. As an OSU fan myself, I'm convinced some of his stats came from playing beside AJ Hawk. Still, I think he could turn out to be a good worker and solid ILB. But no way do you go for Ellis.
Yeah, JT for Ellis makes perfect sense......for the Cowboys !. How about JT for Anthony Henry? That makes more sense for us!
Henry is up there in age but was productive last year. I guess you could make a case for it. He jumped most of the routes to cause turnovers. If some one ran a hitch, he would get burned.....BAD.
That's the primary reason I was thinking it could be a realistic trade possibility. With JT declaring that he only wants to play one more year, we won't get a decent draft pick, I don't think. Nor is anyone going to be willing to trade a young up and coming player to us. Which leaves us with either a younger ST kind of player or an older guy who has been productive. Of course more than likely everyone is going to just sit tight and cross their fingers that our FO outright cuts JT.
Given Parcells' past history, I see no way he outright cuts JT. I'm guessing Dallas will get him for a song if it comes to that - puts him in the other conference and keeps the relationship with Dallas going. I think the Fins hold on to JT. Sooner or later, the suitors will come calling. The window of opportunity is closing in San Diego, Indy, Philly, Dallas, Tampa and Jacksonville. One of these teams will want an advantage over their rivals come the playoffs. I think JT's max value in trade comes now just prior to the trade deadline.
No I don't think so either. But I can't help but think there are a few who are holding out thinking that he might.
If Ellis is way way way on the downside of his career, how does that explain his 12.5 sacks in 13 games last year and being named Comeback Player of the Year after his Achilles tendon injury in 2006? Seems like everyone here wants a deal that is lopsided in Miami's favor. If you trade Taylor for Ellis, you get a player who is a year younger and ideally suited to play the SOLB role in the 3-4, thus allowing Porter to return to his best position, WOLB. Ellis would upgrade the run defense, but our pass rush may suffer a little, though looking at what Ellis did last year along with Porter being back at his best position, even that is not definite. Some of the credit for his 12.5 sacks would have to go to offenses focusing more on Ware, but some of it has to be just through Ellis' own effort as well. Also Ellis has not given any indication he will play only one more year, so by making this trade you get rid of the 'one more and done' that JT says is the case with him, for at least 2 more years with Ellis.
Merling is more suited for the right side and is no way on a par with Ellis when it comes to stuffing the run from the strong side backer spot.
