If Dan Carpenter does his friggin job, we have a chance to win it by a FG on the last drive, taking SOME pressure off the young qb. This kid (tannehill) is not only battling opposing defenses, but his own teams incompetences. Missed field goals, fumbles, terrible defense, terrible blocking, no running game, drops, penalties etc. I am just saying, any nay-saying against Ryan (I havent seen much, just sayin) should slow it down. I was just trying to paint the big picture here. We need to get this kid some help.
Don't forget Jimmy Wilson's dropped INT that would've saved 3 points...or Dansby's dropped INT that would've saved another 3. For all the relative good the defense did (hey, holding them to 4 FGs is pretty good)...there were plays to be made that they just didn't, which is kind of a theme this year.
Agree on the missed FG, but it was a bad decision to kick there in the first place. A make there and you're down by 9, and Carp hadn't hit a 50 yarder all year IINM. So you have a less than 50/50 chance of making a kick that if good still leaves you down by two scores. Not really ideal game management there.
This team is so bad right now, it's impossible to pin this loss on one guy......except maybe Ireland.
Yes, the kicker should make kicks. But it's about the turnover battle. Brian Hartline's fumble was more to blame than Carpenter's missed kick. So were the interceptions.
We had two chances to score at the end of the game. The missed FG discussion is invalid, we never crossed the Buffalo 40 on either of those possessions.
The biggest problem the Dolphins have in my opinion is a bad Offensive line, they have been awful as of late and inconsistant over the years. With all the picks they have used they sure don't get the bang for their buck.
For the life of me I don't understand why Bess didn't try to make a play on the ball on the Byrd INT. It looks like it passed a couple feet over his shoulder, but he was fixated on Byrd coming over...wtf?
Basically, let's not forget that there just isn't enough blame to go around as to why we lost this game. Special Teams, Defense, and Offense all had critical mistakes. It's hard to overcome so many and win.
yes the team hasn't helped. But neither has tanny. The team as a whole has looked pretty bad. At the end was when they finally looked descent.
Absolutely. With that FG if Carp hit it, we dont have to be as agggressive getting the ball down field, you can play for a field goal. Confidence is just something this team lacks all the way around. It seems anytime there's a chance to screw up, we take full advantage. It's gotta be discouraging for them, no doubt. But you're right, you cant keep putting a rookie QB into those types of situations when he's playing from behind all the time, especially the way defenses can play us because of our lack of talent at WR.
I'm sure you guys saw the Dolphins have lost their last 48 GAMES when trailing by 7+ going into the 4th quarter.
i actually noticed that when watching the highlight... the ball went right over Bess's shoulder, if he put his hands up he would have hit it, if not even catch it... but he got turned around for some reason and was all out of whack...
Let's not forget that if Dan Carpenter makes that field goal and Buffalo only has a 2 point lead they approach the end of the game differently and things don't play out the same way. Let's not forget that if Dan Carpenter makes that field goal and Buffalo only has a 2 point lead and the end of the game goes exactly the same we still didn't get into FG range. Let's not forget that if Dan Carpenter makes that field goal and Buffalo only has a 2 point lead and we do get into FG range at the end of the game Carpenter has been less than clutch this season.
Tannehill tried to force the ball to a receiver who was double-covered and in the middle of the field with no timeouts left. Nice try... Sent from my LT30at using Tapatalk 2
If I understand correctly...if Carpenter makes the earlier FG then he could have attempted an 85 yard FG which is what it would have been when Tannehill threw the 1st pick or could have gone for a 74 yard FG instead of Tannehill throwing the 2nd pick. Making excuses for a QB throwing "2 interceptions" on just plain bad throws with less than 2 minutes doesn't serve any purpose other than an attempt to stay in denial imo. My guess is coach Philbin is not going to buy that Carpenter's missed FG was the reason Tannehill didn't get the job done "twice" in the 4th quarter with under two minutes to go...again, why should the fans?
Exactly, I am not "defending" Tannehills poor performance....What I am doing is laying the blame elsewhere besides our rookie QB. This guy has NO HELP....the blocking is pitiful, Jake Long looks like a hobbled pirate trying to block a ****ing speeding train every week. Anytime something good happens either a turnover follows or a penalty negates it entirely. Dan Carpentar (besides on this forum of hardcore fans) hasnt been talked about nearly enough for his **** ups week in and week out. This guy continues being paid by an nfl football team to kick fieldgoals.....yet.....he's missed far too many to justify a pay check or a job....let alone a ****ing safe bed to sleep in. At least bring in kickers for try-outs to light a fire under "kid rocks" ***. Ever sense he "beat out" connor barth when parcells was here (Who btw, has blossomed into a far better kicker for Tampa imo)....he has been good when not needed and ****ty when needed. It's hard to explain, but the guy is whack.
They need to spread things out for this kid and quit trying to act like we're a running team in a conventional way, spread em out and run from the formation, as well as give the kid some space to throw out of.
Hate to say it, Sick, but isn't this what many of us thought about this team in the beginning of the season ?? The bottom line is that while the overall quality of the players is adequate, we have NO play makers. No one to help Tanny. Bush is a mediocre RB. Thomas is still learning the job, but actually seems more suited to a secondary role than the main RB. Fasano is ok in several phases of the position of TE, but he's not really a pass receiver and again, is not a play maker... Bess or Hartline would be great complementary WRs with a play making, go to WR. The OL is average. No one expected Long to struggle, but he has. Martin is growing into the job. RI has been exposed as not much more than a mediocre OL since Martin, Long and Pouncey are playing better. Jerry has surprisingly held his own, but he still has a ways to go. Defensively, again...solid players at some positions, but no real threats other than perhaps Wake, but he can't do it alone. Carpenter's struggles have been surprising. I just don't see much more than what i saw back in August save for a couple of players who've played better than expected. Most of us said we'd like to see 6-10 out of this group and that's what we're seeing... Question will be what do we see after this next offseason??
so now where blaming everything on the kicker because our offense can score 1 td a game if were lucky Carpenter is the new B Marsh for the Ireland lovers I guess
