My mock(with no trade down scenario): 1) DE Chris Long. Coaches decide Dorsey doesn't fit here, and with Carey excelling at LT, the team opts to take the best pass rusher to aid the secondary. 2) WR Mario Manningham. This team needs a WR to compliment Ginn. Manningham is perfect for that role, with solid hands and good route running. 3) DT Kentwan Balmer. Glaring need at this position prompts the team to grab this big but quick DT who has the ability to gobble up RBs and pressure the QB. A smaller Warren Sapp. 4) OT Chris Williams - This Vanderbilt OT would be perfect to replace LJ Sheldon at RT. He's better as a zone blocker, but Im sure Houck can work miracles with this guy. If he slips to the 3rd, he would be a steal. 5) CB Terrance Wheatly - A draft that's deep with CBs should provide us with a solid corner somewhere in the fourth. I think Wheatly could fall into our laps provided NE doesn't pick him with the last pick in the 3rd. He's fast, which our entire secondary lacks. A solid nickel/dime corner maybe eventually starter. The rest: We should look for a TE, G, and LB later on.
A lot of names in this thread, but as for the #1 pick IMHO there is only C. Long, J. Long, Run DMC, and Dorsey as legit potential #1's,,,,, right now. There is no QB rated as the #1 potential right now and I doubt anyone rises that high. Guess only 1)C. Long 2a)Okam 2b)Rucker 3)Crable- first pick rd. 3 4)Heath Benedict ot-may go earlier 6)Paul Smith qb 7)O. Schmidt fb...not too sold on Mauia......
Now this is a VERY good list..cept I would hope that J Leman falls to 55 and we take the best CB available at 64 Okay, I have repeatedly posted it. Antwoin Cason is tiny folks..he is a very small guy.....
Balmer probably won't last that long, and Mario will need to declare in order for us to pick him. I've not read anything yet that says he'll declare. Of course if RR plans to put in an offense like he had at WV, then I can certainly see him declaring.
Stich my man, how is everything? Yea, I doubt Balmer would last that long, but a FinFan can dream right? I like what Balmer brings to the table and I think he's better than Dorsey, and hasn't had any major injuries. If Mario doesn't declare, then maybe we can try to grab Early Doucet or James Hardy? I think Limus Sweed will be picked up in mid-1st round. There's also D.J. Hall and Keenan Burton. But if Manningham declares, I think he's our best choice for our first 2nd round pick.
I'm good, one semester left of school, then I can start my job. I too think Limas Sweed will be gone before 32, but a guy can dream, lol. I think Doucet actually has a chance of slipping to 32, but if him and Fred Davis are there, who would you take? I think I would take Davis personally, though I love them both. And I love DJ Hall, though no one else seems to be throwing his name out there, getting him or Burton in rd 3 would be great I think. Even with the Chargers pick I wouldn't mind too much, except I want to see us pick a CB before rd 3.
I like it, although I think we need a DB or two. The original posted Mock is good for the first two picks, but I'd change everything after that. Just my opinion.
Hall is a player, and Doucet is one of the most athletic WRs Ive seen, but Davis has potential to be a franchise TE. Id go with Davis. At CB I think Terrance Wheatly would be a good pickup, great value in the 3rd or even 4th.
Yeah, but sorry, I SERIOUSLY doubt that Crable is still available in the third round...perhaps not even in the second...
Agreed Motion... However, I think we can get a great DT in the second round... What we need in the first round, if we are stuck with it, is an impact player on defense and I think LONG fits the bill... Whether it be JT or MOSES on the other side, I think we will get the most production with LONG... Just my opinion though...
I also love Terrance Wheatly (from my school Colorado), but we don't have a 5th round pick at the moment. I think he will likely be drafted in the 4th round.....he just finds a way to get interceptions, which is something the Phins could use (more opponent turnovers). I also like a Colorado LB named Jordan Dizon, a Butkus award finalist, who is a tackling machine. I think he could be available on Day Two.
The numbers in my mock dont represent round, just our picks in numerical order. Dizon sounds like an interesting prospect. One thing we need to keep in mind is that we dont need project players, we need guys who can get it done now, rather than 3-4 years down the road.
Sup y'all, I think the Fins will take Matt Ryan in the 1st round. 2: Antoine Cason: Arizona DB 3: Tommy Blake: DE: TCU thats all I think so far, we shall see. PS: I don't think the Fins will take Matt Ryan, I just don't seeing them take Dorsey.
the only issue i have with Dorsey is his back problems....at the age of 21, having back problems is NOT a good thing. if not for that, id say he is a lock for us at the #1 pick. definitely impact our defense on Day One. but no.....thats why i prefer Chris Long. i saw him against Virginia Tech i think it was, he has amazing ability and speed. we are kinda slim at DE also, considering JT doesnt come back all we have is Roth, Moses....Holliday, Wright, Soliai occupy the middle. 6'4, 284 pounds. sounds awesome. and im sure would start on Day One.
Exactly, we need players than contribute right away and Long seems like that kind of player. We dont know if Dorsey is going to be healthy or not, like you said, having back problems this early in his career is a big negative, especially playing at the DT position, which requires a down stance and big upper body strength.
I'm kind of worried about Chris Long. His performance seemed to have spiked in his senior year. But was very average the 3 years previous to that. I also heard somewhere that he's like 26 or 27 years old. But he does have an NFL pedigree with his dad being Hall-of-famer Howie Long. I don't know. I guess I'd have to see how he does at the combine.
One of the bazillion mock draft sites I've been going to over the last couple of days. If I find it again I'll give you a link.
