Simple question...Do you like it or not? Especially this year with a game being on each week on Thursdays, I am not liking it. The games have not been that great on Thursday this year and teams usually look sloppy/ill prepared. I think that Thursday football is actually a detriment to the brand. Sloppier play, less time to prepare, and less time to recover from any injuries that occurred on Sunday. I think the NFL should review football on Thursdays and just keep it to Sun./Mon. football games. What do you all think?
No. You shorten the week and take away prep time and recovery time. The time "gained" afterward is meaningless when you incresse the chance of injury this way. Thanksgiving probably being the sole exception.
No not really a fan of the Thursday night games, I wonder what the win % is of the road team on a short week.
No, hate it. I like Big Bang Theory and 2 and a Half Men on Thursday! Now this Sunday the Fins won't be on. It will suck. I might as well clean out the garage like my wife has been bugging me to do. Stupid NFL Network!
Yes and no. Yes when it's a team besides the Miami Dolphins playing. I enjoy watching a random game on Thursday nights. No when it's the Dolphins. The short week, getting all worked up on a "school" night, not having anything on Sunday to look forward to, etc. etc.
43.2% just this year for road teams. http://seattle.sbnation.com/seattle...528716/seahawks-49ers-thursday-night-football
The reason it's not on Friday or Saturday is to not interfere with High School and College Football. NFL begins on Saturdays when the College football season is on hiatus
Slightly off topic, I hate listening to Mike Mayock on the broadcast. I was one of the few who actually enjoyed Matt Millen calling Thursday night games. He was very knowledgeable and his voice didn't make me want to murder puppies (unlike Mayock's).
It definitely increases injury risk because of decreased recovery time but from a fan perspective, hell yeah. The more football the better. It depends on whether you are the type of fan who is willing to sit and watch any game on TV or whether you just watch Miami and maybe 1-2 other teams. Ill watch any game on TV so for me it absolutely works
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...s-home-teams-visitors-nfl-short-week/1644223/ "Of the 55 Thursday games mentioned above, the home team had the better record entering the game on 16 occasions. The visitors had a better record 26 times, with 13 matchups of teams with equal records. It's not an exact science, of course, but those numbers indicate there's no reason why the winning percentage of Thursday road teams (.364) isn't in line with the rate of all road teams (.432) over the past six seasons."
It is not about somehow improving the game, it is about selling more airtime and another TV contract for the NFL. Not a fan of Thursday games. Friday? Except the NFL is not allowed to do so, but Friday would a much better time (of course I'm middle-aged and married). While I'm at it, I would support an 18 game schedule if there was a 16 game limit for each player, and an expanded roster size to 65 or so. Imagine picking what games to play your starting QB, and sitting them after an injury would be much easier to do. This would also mean only two preseason games, so another win for the fans (and both those games become important to evaluate players). All the NFL records would be shattered of course, the benchmark for a good rushing season would be 1200 yds+ for example.
Can't wait to see the pregame coverage on this one either. I wonder how much air time this game will get. Guaranteed that they will talk about the eagles and cowboys the majority of the time.
Thank you. That artical is from 10/19/12 there have been three more games played since in which the road team is 0-3. Breaking it down to the last two seasons though. Home teams are 12-3 (.800) on Thursdays over the past two years (discarding Week 1). http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/8ac3dc6fb93f4fe9be2cf7552f085573/FBN--Any-Given-Thursday The regular Sunday games the home teams win % is .602 so there seems to be a larger percentage increase for the home teams on thursdays the last two years. Is it trending to a more lopsided advantage? Appears to be.
I don't like it, personally. It happens to fall on a night when I can't watch and not to mention, it's on NFL Network, which I don't have.
I like it from a fan's perspective but I can understand why players and coaches would dislike it from a preparation/injury perspective.
An extra night of football? Thank you NFL. Having a Sunday afternoon freed up to watch any 1pm game I want (Detroit @ Lambeau)? Thank you again NFL. Providing me an excuse to have a beer day during the week? You get a thank you for that as well.
No, but then again an 8.20 start is like 1.20 in the morning over here, so the chances of me staying up to watch the end of a game on that late are nil. I then have to spend the entire day Friday dodging the internet so as not to see the score before I can get home and watch it on Gamepass. So many 1pm games this year [for the Dolphins] has been awesome for the timings here.
I wouldn't mind having 2 monday night games like the NFL does to kick off the year. Have 2 east coast teams play the 7pm game, and 2 west coast teams at 10:30. That way west coast fans get a start time of 7:30 for their game (much more feasible than the 5:30 they currently have)..... and fans on the east coast have an opportunity to watch 2 games if they desire.
There's only a limited amount of teams on the West coast. Idk how efficiently this would work each week.
Mayock spends waaaaaay too much time talking as a scout and how he rated these players in college. Nesler is far better than Bryant Gum Ball
after ripping him a little, I do agree with that. I just wish he would focus more on the plays and then what they ran in the 40 and where they went in the draft
Road teams are 2-1 in the last 3 games. Bucs and Colts won on the road. I agree with most here. I love having and extra game to watch each week as an appetizer (or in the case tonight, the main course) to Sunday, but I get why teams don't like it.
I agree Mike Mayock has some good analysis. It's just his voice and manner of speaking that drives me crazy. He's basically a smart guy who sounds like a dummy. And Matt Millen may have been the worst GM in the history of football, but as a broadcaster, I found enjoyed his analysis of the game. I was sad to see him go off the Thursday night broadcast.
You are correct I was thinkin those were home games,,see another reason I dont like Thurs games I work most of them.
Road teams will be getting more wins overall now that everyone gets a Thursday night game. Awful teams like Jacksonville will be still be steamrolled.
That and he's also waaaay too excited to hear the sound of his own voice. He gets over excited about every litte play. Every time he opens his mouth he talks like it's the last chance he's ever going to speak. It's annoyed me just watching teams I care nothing about so I'm sure I'll be through the roof tonight.
Not really a fan of Thursday Night Football, particularly when Miami is playing. But I do like it as an occasional treat. I preferred that to it being every week.
no way bro. I love mayock, probably one of the few analysts I respect for his knowledge of all the players. They will show the most random player and he'll be like the 7th rounder out of tulsa back in '05, I really liked his feet and hand placement coming out of college. Had the 3rd highest vertical out of his group, along with great separation at the LOS etc etc. lol and you can tell he really knows what hes talking about, not just reading it off a sheet of paper in front of him. I'm looking foward to hearing what he has to say about the fins.
