Why bother? It'll be ignored by those who don't want to understand and ignored by those too naive to understand. As we've all seen for the past several months...

IMO it's fools errand to even discuss the merits, or lacketherof, of a decision that has a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening. Ireland would have to be the dumbest GM on earth to trade away Marshall and Vontae for picks in 2013 if he was in a win now or else type of situation.

INOW wake me when Irish is canned. Till then, the whole discussion is "for entertainment purposes only".

Oh, because you wouldn't know anything about bumping old threads would you?

Where were you to answer the questions about how stupid it was for you to bump all those threads 7 games into the season a couple of weeks ago? Once again, you were nowhere to be found when it was time to face the music.

Seems to me the topic of this thread doesn't call for more of the same old slinging mud at each other bickering bull **** about Jeff Ireland. It should be perfectly possible and reasonable for even the staunchest of Ireland's supporters to discuss potential candidates should he actually be fired. But people seem to prefer to go back to their mocking, complaining, insulting, sarcasm, etc. It's too bad.

Lets talk coaches too. I want Chip Kelly!

Actually if Philbin is one and done I would want Chip Kelly. If he succeeds it will be glorious. If he fails, at least it won't be boring.

I imagine if Ireland gets canned (doubtful), Philbin will be done too. Not necessarily because he deserves it, but because the new guy will want his coach.
And if the new guy wanted Kelly, I'd be all for it.

Problem is, you probably can't get Kelly without firing your boy Ireland.
So the question becomes who do you want more?
    Jeff Ireland or Chip Kelly.....

Ross has been responsible for a handful of major moves for the Giants including discovering Victor Cruz, JPP, and Ahmad Bradshaw among others.

DeCosta has a long and very solid history in Baltimore. From his wiki page:
    Two things:
    1. There are things I dont like about Pioli specifically for this job, such as the fact he has never really drafted/constructed for a 4-3 D. But his history in NE doesnt just get washed away.
    2. Thats why i listed him 3rd.

I'd be fine with replacing Ireland, but my guess is that Ross likes Philbin and will keep Ireland one more season to give Philbin another year.

I don't think 1 matters at all, and I think his history in NE is pretty irrelevant when the team has continued drafting just as well, if not better without him.

I don't think that addresses the fact that you're advocating we replace a guy with someone who has been his clear inferior. Scott Pioli's unequivocal success at this point are Eric Winston and Justin Houston. Eric Berry might have been before he was injured, but he ain't that good right now. There's a whole lot of tremendous failures in every aspect.

I think it's got to the point that both sides do it.
It's why I try to stay out it now.....and to be honest, why I've not been as active lately. This place has (mostly) turned into people *****ing at one another and mocking and insulting posters who have different views.
And then you get nasty PM's and nothing is done about.

He inherited those guys and basically every good player on the roster. Pioli was hired in 2009, Branden Albert, Brandon Flowers, Jamaal Charles, and Brandon Carr all came from the 2008 draft.

Basically any illusion of competence Scott Pioli has should be attributed to the picks Carl Peterson made before he was booted out the door.

I was an Ireland fan right up until he traded Marshall and had no plan to replace him. We all saw his interview with Peter King. He knew the receiver corps was weak and rolled with it anyway. Now we’re seeing the wisdom of that decision.

Hartline and Bess are on the verge of putting up career yardage numbers with 1 TD so far between them. Why? Because all you have to do to defend them is tackle them after they catch the ball. There’s little chance they will outrun or run over anyone.

A size, power and/or speed mismatch makes it much easier to get into the end zone. That’s why it’s no surprise Fasano and Clay are leading the team in TD catches and Tannehill is the worst TD passer in the league.

I don’t have a replacement candidate. I just can’t believe there are fans who think he is doing a good job.

If you think the subject of what head coaches the Dolphins could go for if Philbin is one-and-done would garner interest and discussion, start a thread and find out.

This thread is supposed to be a reasonable discussion on what the best GM candidates are, that could find themselves being interviewed in Miami should Ireland be fired. Instead of actually having an earnest discussion about that, 90% of this thread is just snarkiness, sarcasm, bickering and sniping at one another about whether Ireland is a bad GM or not.

It's just not necessary and I wish more people would see that.

Though the discussion morphed into reasons to keep get rid of Ireland.

Here's the man that should be - no, must be, hired next season, imo:

    Eliot Wolf:

    http://www.packers.com/team/staff/eliot-wolf/554e5cf2-a949-4cb5-8d85-11e979ac48b3

Wolf is the son of Ron Wolf. He is the youngest Pro Personnel Director in the NFL at age 30. I like him as GM. Give him a 10 yr. contract. In spite of being only 30, he's been at 20 consecutive NFL Packer Drafts and 20 straight Combines. He likely has more experience than a lot of 40 year olds.

Just go get him as GM and let him be a part of a strong program for years to come.

So what have we decided here? Genuine question.

Eliot is an interesting guy. Hailed as an intellect and somewhat of a smart alec, if I may say so. He's on Twitter as well, though I don't recall his user name at the moment and he's usually around draft time, making sardonic remarks in the direction of ESPN draft gurus and their wildly inaccurate mocks.

One name that I've really taken a liking to is Marc Ross of the New York Giants. He would be my first option because of his possession of all the necessary traits and ethos (in my view) to get the job done.

Ross would be my 2nd choice if we couldn't steal Dorsey away from GB, word is Joe Banner will be all over Ross this offseason while he completes this overhaul in Cleveland..they worked together in Philly. our Ross should offer the Giants' Ross the job with the power to make a change at head coach after the 2013 season if he saw fit.

I can't help but be skeptical of Eliot Wolf. If his name were Eliot Snow then nobody would be bringing him up, nor would be Director of Pro Personnel with the Packers. He's only 30 years old and I don't know how he gets credit for having been to 20 straight drafts and 20 straight Combines when it means that half of them happened before he was 20 years old. It just seems like there are a lot more guys (Marc Ross being one of them) that have paid their dues. Eliot is the Director of Pro Personnel on a team that doesn't spend money on free agents.

Marc Ross is a guy that's held my interest. I mentioned him a few months ago here and I can't seem to find it at the moment but I know I took a deeper exploration of him as a GM candidate earlier than that, as I recall him being a Princeton grad or something along those lines.
