It's pretty obvious a bunch of players overlooked TEN and believed all the articles written about them.

They are back to reality now.

K, now that thats out of the way, get this thread on a topic. All parties involved in the earlier silliness know that personal attacks are not allowed.

Secondly, if you choose not to recognize the stats people use to prove a point, then come up with something better. Otherwise just put them on block. Its not my or any other posters responsibility to use stats you approve of.

Not sure what's more troubling... certain parts of this thread that have fortunately been deleted or the fact that VONTAE DAVIS IS ON DPATE'S GAME TICKET?!?! I guess they print the season tickets well in advance of the... season... It's just terribly ironic.

I am hoping that Long just isn't 100% from his injury in the off season. Pouncy is awesome and Martin needs more time, its his rookie season. I'm on board with upgrading our guards. Honestly, I am just looking for excuses to use our draft picks on play makers.

I think probably the most logical recommendation going forward for improvement is Left Guard. Richie Incognito isn't a very good zone run blocker. He's done well, and seemingly improved his pass protection outside of some mental lapses, but the guy doesn't work on the run very well.

You've probably got to find an insurance policy for Jonathan Martin. I don't think he's at his worst bad enough to badly damage your chances to win, but if he doesn't improve or regresses you're in pretty dangerous territory.

I don't think you can really get far enough to replace John Jerry. He's not much of an asset at this point, but if he's your worse linemen you are in pretty good shape.

You've also got to be careful with Fasano. There's an argument for replacing him, but if you're letting him go and not finding some sort of replacement as a blocker then you're taking a loss in this area you can't really afford either.

Regarding Fasano, I think it is in our best interest to keep him. At the right price, of course.

its games like these that a great home field advantage can help a team get thru those lows, not us..if your not up for the game intrinsically, your toast in sunlife.

I like Fasano a lot, but I think there are some roster math/combination issues that need to be navigated, and I think it might be difficult to get all the aspects you want while not shutting to door on Charles Clay/Michael Egnew.

Ultimately though I'm not sure people are going to be entirely happy with a decision to make a change, but I think it's fairly likely that Ireland goes back to the idea that a tight end should be a tight end and not an oversized wide receiver.

I won't be entirely happy... I'll be entirely ecstatic! I've never liked Fasano and felt he was overpaid for what he brings to the table.

Question: do you believe Ireland has a view of personnel that fits into a cohesive whole (I.e. the parts work together in a coherent system)?

I don't know the answer. I ask because teams that have 'receiving tight ends' do seem to have explosive offenses. But at the same time, the team as a whole is not always constructed to be playoff caliber.

More and more I'm interested in assessing the totality of a team rather than pinpointing individual roster players and positions for nitpicking (not saying you are nitpicking, by the way, just that we often debate the merits of this player or that at one spot without thorough consideration of how that cog fits into the entire machine).

So agin, I am curious, aside from Ireland's belief or proclivity to certain types of TE, do you think he has a cohesive vision for how he forms his roster. One that works together so the sum is greater than the parts?

I wish I could answer but I just don't know enough about football (though I know a fair bit).

I understand what you are saying but spending first round draft picks on just the oline alone wont make us better Miami seems to be reaching and reaching wont get us very far. other teams who are good seem to thrive when they spend more on skill players and use mid round picks for oline.

Our problem is that we don't have enough talent to compete on any sort of significant level, and we don't have enough talent to score. The New York Jets have scored more points than us. THAT is how bad it is.
