Enough talk about that freak for the colts, I thought comin off the injury Ryan looked good today and gave his team chances to win.. Close to three hundred yards, 4 th game in a row without an Int, like I heard Ronin mention earlier, the throws were in tight windows", to have his team on the road against that type of performance across from him is pretty damn good..The trajectory on the deep ball is sweet, "not being able to work the middle of the field" was cocka, he's just downright lethal on the run, and theres no doubt in my mind that he was playing hurt, and, he's just a tough bastard, he's taken brutal hits out there..Hey, there's 31 other teams that don't have Luck, our guy can compete with him on that level, and to me, that peace of mind is now there, I can see the ceiling, and it's real high. I would like to see Ryan use his athleticism more, would like his training to be about getting More explosive in everything he does, especially his lower body..I'm not sure if a better feel for backside pressure can improve greatly, but there's a blind spot there as Padre says. So his performance got overshadowed by one of the best Qb performances your ever going to watch, he still had his team in position to win on the road. Tannehill leads the league in downfield accuracy over 30 yards says Dilfer. One real nice wide receiver, one real nice tight end, and one complete running back, that should do it.
Makes more sense IMO that Ryan works on the weaker parts of his game now then uses the athleticism as an addition rather than a bailout. Newton seemed other-worldly last season but it doesn't seem like they tried to develop his weaker aspects enough. Guy is a legit talent that they're doing a disservice to IMO. If Gabbert can look competent after last season, Newton should be killing it.
I think Luck is the man, but Tanny is not too far behind RIGHT NOW. Think about the comparison of time played in college, and the gap should be greater. Plus, Luck has better WR, and seemed to have more time than Tanny yesterday. Although when we did rush Luck, he just moved and completed passes. I am very excited about our future with Tanny.
A real nice WR might have scored 3 TDs and 122 yards. I bet Irish can find a guy like that in the 3rd round...
We don't have a Reggie Wayne. That was the difference in the game. He is the king of clutch catches, we just don't have that guy...yet.
Davone made a lot of clutch catches in the game. Our problems were along the OL and defensive backfield yesterday, IMO. It was our defense that didn't make the clutch catches - three of them.
The desperation pass on 4th down was simply incredible.. Running to the right side, throwing it up across the field to the left, in pure desperation gave me hope for the rest of the season. Ryan is the real deal.
I was amazed by it too, but what impressed the most is how tough the guy is, he never lost his cool in spite of the putrid line play.
Honestly folks, w/ not having a realistic shot at getting Luck (what, were were going to trade five #1s?), getting Tannehill as a consolation prize is pretty damn sweet. Sorry - you can't have Kate Upton, but - hey - how about Marissa Miller as your date instead! The thing that stands out to me is his lack of interceptions over the last 3-plus games. Especially when you figure the nature of the six he does have (five not really being bad throws into double coverage, etc.). He has really one bad pick that is completely on him in seven-plus games. Not bad for Tom Brady, let alone a rook! Luck might be otherworldly eventually. He was so spot on yesterday, even when we did put pressure on him. But Ryan might be his equal, or close enough at some point. I don't think it'll be long before there's a nice Dolphins-Colts rivalry for years and years, similar to the Colts-Pats rivalry of recent vintage.
I have a few observations for both QBs. Firstly, Luck is good. Really good. You can see how ready he was/is to be an NFL QB. He clearly was/is the rookie QB more ready to play in the NFL i have ever seen. However that also says something. I don't think he will dramatically improve in the next 3 years. Sure he'll get experience and comfort, but the Luck we're seeing is the Luck we'll see going forward for the most part. He was great in the pocket, but his O-line was monster. You saw the difference between both QB. Luck made slight adjustments to move the pocket, but he did not have free rushers on his face. His O-linemen were always blocking rushers, and Luck just had to make smart side steps and smart adjustments to move the pocket around. Compare that with Tannehill who's blockers consistently let rushers threw unblocked, or beaten off the snap. It's hard to be more around the pocket when the rushers have a clean shot at you. Also, Luck threw a few balls that could, and should have been intercepted. On a different day, and perhaps with a more talented backfield, Luck throws at least 2 INTs. Ryan threw ZERO passes that you said had potential for interceptions. That impressed me. Coming into the game, one could safely have assumed Colts were more talented offensively, and Dolphins were more talented defensively. Well, Colts showed their talent on offense, Dolphins did not on defense.
If RT was playing against the Fins D with the Colts OL he puts up 500 yards on them. I didn't see much of a difference between the 2 considering RT was getting killed, if he didn't get jumpy after the beating he took we got ourselves one heck of a QB. RT was by far the best Dolphin on the field and just as sharp as Luck.
I agree with that to an extent, give Tannehill time and he will pick you apart, no doubt, but as far as manipulating the pocket to create some space and time, Luck is already elite.
The Colts are some lucky bastards. The year Peyton goes down with a neck surgery, the best QB prospect ever comes out.
I'd love to see a gif of that last play on fourth down, Tannehill showed a lot of things on that play and came up 1 yard short, talk about having the ability to throw across your body.
I agree it was a beautiful pass and one that really shows what he can do, but the sad part is it was for nought even if it would have been A 1st down. That play was coming back for holding if it had been a 1st. So many penalties, poor blocking and poor play in the secondary killed us today, and yet we were still within 3 in a position to to tie the game. As much as it hurt I am still very encouraged with the direction this team is headed in.
Tanne played really well. I am excited for his future. His ability to throw the out pass is amazing. The passes dropped by Hartline and Gaffney were really good passes. With the Gaffney one being a potential touchdown if he came up with the pass and was able to turn up. Hopefully during the offseason he works on his ability to work the pocket. So far that has been terrible on the season. Making the offensive line look much worse than they are. There were too many times where just taking one step would have prevented a pressure. Also for someone as athletic as him, he really doesn't have those amazing athletic plays. In fact if it wasn't for the fact that he was a wide receiver for two years and all the college highlights of him running, I would assume by his play that he was a statue in college. Still he is much farther along than I imagined he would be at this point.
Do you know what happened in our draft the year after Dan retired? Chad Pennington was the ONLY QB drafted in the first round!
i thought ryan did a very good job yesterday i was looking on espn(probably stupid of me) looking at tannehills stats and was comparing them to rg III and other qbs and something just seemed weird to me for instance tannehill vs oakland was 18-30 200 yards 1td 0 int 60% comp pct. 72.3 qbr 91.0 rating tannehill vs indy was 22-38 290 yards 1td 0 int 57.9% comp pct 50.6 qbr 90.9 rating rgIII vs carolina was 23-39 215 yards 0td 0 int 59% comp pct 53.3 qbr 74.2 rating so how does rgIII have an almost 3 points higher qbr than tannehill even though ryan threw for more yards and threw a td? i thought ryan played much better yesterday than in oakland yet he had 20+ more points in qbr vs oakland than indy i mean how is that possible? just something i have been wondering doesnt make much sense to me IMO
That is still 3 pretty big pieces and you still have OLINE issues too. Not that it cant be done and that we haven't moved forward , but we did get exposed yesterday imo , we need to see the pieces against upper tier competition to see exactly where we are ... SS didn't look like as big of a positive answer as he did in previous games for example.
Yes. They declined the penalty as we were short of the first down , if it was a first down they would have accepted it of course. 77 had a trying game , and if you are trending his performance , it isn't going in the right direction imo. No way he warrants HUGE dollars imo , he has consistent challeges against speed.
While the pass to Bess maybe wasn't one that "should" have been caught , it was one that could have been and if he had a bigger wingspan it would have been a fairly routine throw and catch for a key play imo.

Luck should have thrown 3 INTs. Smith should have picked him twice, the endzone and the one he magically let go after he had it in his hands. Then the Dansby one. Luck is very good, no doubt about that. But he is not nearly as good as he looked yesterday. Our defense elevated his play.
That TD that was dropped by Hilton right before the half, would have offset the second half prayer that Smith and Carrol allowed to Hilton cause Smith has zero awareness and body control to pick it off...its a wash. But several picks were left on the field by Miami DBs yesterday, and those damn 3rd down conversions were complimented by god awful tackling fundamentals short of the sticks too. I am not knocking the show Luck put on from a clinic standpoint of feeling pressure and subtle movements to avoid pressure, or just but an extra second of time to release the ball...it was pretty to watch (and damn frustrating); but Luck should have had INTs in his stat column for sure.
