They should have let him keep the Backpack Stunner as a finisher. It looked devastating.

WWE apologized for the attack, blamed the lack of security. I don't think Punk will be suspended, as it doesn't say in their statement that he will be punished.

Agreed. My main problem with his finisher is its so lackluster for his size/persona. Its clear he is a Goldberg clone why nit give him something awesome like the jackhammer?

Surprised. Anyone else but Cena, Punk and a few other guys, they would have been fired

Well the guy isn't pressing charges so that's probably a big reason as to why, also again not defending Punk but he was getting pushed around pretty good, it's easy to say he shouldn't have punched the guy but if anyone was in that situation and get elbowed in the back of the head you'd probably defend yourself too. It was an unfortunately event and thankfully no one got hurt.

But I do agree, it would be interesting if say someone like Jack Swagger did that what would happen to him.

Honestly, the 'E has been rather hypocritical about these things. Honestly, after reading this thread over the past couple of years, it's a wonder Randy Orton didn't get fired yet.

I really thought when I saw Haymen with the title and the black cloth that he was going to introduce a new title or something.

I think the WWE forgot about the new title they supposedly made. Perhaps they're waiting for when The Rock wins it?

I wonder if Lesnar makes an appearance in the main event to help punk win and keep Ryback strong or are they going to Hot shot the title to Ryback and let him have it for a little while. everything else on the show I don't care about and even the Kane/Bryan stuff is getting boring now.

Hot shotting the title to Ryback would be the absolute worst move for the company. They're actually doing a nice job building up Punk and the title as meaningful. By giving Ryback the title what does that do? There's no money in Ryback as the champion at this point in time. The money is with Punk carrying it until the Rumble against The Rock.

And yeah the money is on Lesnar returning to help Punk beat Ryback setting up a Lesnar/Punk vs. Cena/Ryback match at Survivor Series with maybe The Rock involved too.

And I agree the Bryan/Kane stuff is old now.

Kane/Bryan thing is the only reason I am watching right now. Also no way CM Punk loses, because you can't have Ryback/Rock at Rumble.

Rumor is Ric Flair is returning to the WWE on RAW this Monday to be involved in the Cena/AJ/Guerrero storyline. Hey seeing the Nature Boy is always good just as long as he stays the hell out of the ring as a wrestler. But Flair as GM would be nice since he hasn't been one in almost 10 years(!).

  16. Samphin

The whole concept of a GM or figure head is somewhat dated at this point. It would be great if they appointed someone like Regal, who toed the line of brilliant when he played the role. Someone who didn't need to be in the limelight and simply made decisions on and off screen and called it good.

If anything, that's where I would like for it to go. A non-partisan character who simply makes an appearance on screen when appropriate, and isn't crammed down our throat each week. I mean, it IS. A wrestling show, not every match needs to be made right then and there as a surprise, does it?

Why not have a GM that says, okay a week from now we are going to have say, Randy Orton vs. Miz, so this week, both with be in competition against other opponents as a tune up. The GM doesn't even need to be on screen for this. Just have Cole put it over as a decision the GM has made and be done with it.

Then, if something is REALLY going out of whack, the GM makes an appearance to settle it, break it up, etc. every now and then a small storyline or backstage shenanigans can occur, but I think making the Gzm a central focus of the show is now passé.

As for Ryback winning, the WWE has painted themselves into a corner. They have two positive momentum guys in Ryback and Punk that should really be kept apart from each other until longer, but they hotshotted this and now someone will come out damaged. I almost think you HAVE to give Ryback the belt in order to keep his appeal up, but having Punk hold the title a year should be a goal too.

Ryback gets compared to Goldberg a lot, and for good reason. But I almost wish they had built him up more like the Ultimate Warrior. Demolish foes like he as done, and the have him just decimate the IC champ. Miz would have been perfect in this role if he were still champ. He can run down Ryback, claiming that this new guy is getting all of this attention without having won anything, yet a former world champ, tag champ and current IC champ is being ignored. Ryback challenges for the let, but Miz keeps putting roadblocks on his way, like former champs, and other different scenarios that Ruback overcomes. Eventually, Miz is forced to defend the let a d is murdered dead instantly.

Ryback beck ES the IC champ. Miz invokes a rematch clause, loses again. Perhaps tries a few more times, each less successful than before until he moves on to something else, and Ryback goes back to destroying the mid card for awhile.

Eventually you have an IC/WWE title match next year where Ryback can unify the titles for a night or something before dropping the IC title for a tourney.

Or if you really wanted to go nuts...have Ryback to on a warpath of infringing the IC and US Titles, then unifying the world and wwe titles and walk out absolutely draped in titles. Would make for a nice visual AND make him a legit star over time. Eventually he an et cocky that he has lathing left to prove, the Undertaker's gong hits, as the lights go out and wham-O...Wrestlemania.

I completely disagree with putting the belt on Ryback, it would do more harm than good in the long run. You can have Punk win in a screwy fashion but still keep Ryback strong like have Lesnar come in and cost Ryback the match for example. Or have the ref stop the match because Ryback gets busted open and is bleeding all over the place. Something like that would work fine, it keeps the title on Punk still and keeps both guys strong and keep their heat.

Wins and losses are meaningless if the story in the ring is strong and both guys are made to look good. Some of the biggest losses in wrestling have elevated careers of guys (i.e. Bret Hart at SS '92, HBK at WM10, Austin at WM13, Benoit at RR'03 etc.). As long as the match is good and Ryback isn't made to look like Zack Ryder then him losing to Punk shouldn't hurt his character at all.

  18. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Unless Ryback wins, he loses momentum. All there is to it. When WCW put the belt on Goldberg, they did the right thing in having him destroy Hogan. Right move.

It was also the right time.

This is too early in my estimation, but I don't have a solid endgame that works for both. I hate the idea of Lesnar running in. You end up with the same situation as now where you have Ryback up against Brock. Too much, too soon.

Perhaps the only way I could see it work is if a ref is paid off by Heyman or something. I have to believe that Heyman is taking a shell shock this weekend. That would be a reason to get there.

Eh it's hard to really compare Ryback to Goldberg as Ryback is nowhere near as over as Goldberg was nor is he even as established as Goldberg was at the time.

And again I disagree with Ryback losing momentum if he loses, as long as he's made to look strong and made to look like a star the loss won't hurt him. If he loses a hard fought good match in for example a Stone Cold WM13 fashion where he's bleeding like crazy and passes out in the Anaconda Vice people would except that I think. Or even if Lesnar comes in and costs Ryback the match and at the following PPV it's Punk/Lesnar vs. Cena/Ryback and Ryback wins the match by beating Punk and then runs off to feud with someone else as Punk deals with The Rock and Lesnar disappears again until WM its fine.

The problem with Ryback winning is he needs to lose the belt in time in a few months so the WWE can run the Punk/Rock match at the Rumble. So does giving him the belt because he's "the hot act" right now, yet isn't really a main draw yet, only to have him lose it in a few weeks really worth it?

Again and you've said it yourself numerous times, wins and losses are meaningless it's how the superstars are built up that matter.

Wins and losses ARE meaningless...unless yourgimmick is that you are undefeated. Then it is sort of important.

Ok but Ryback has to lose sooner or later and where's the upside if he wins the title tonight? Do you think he's ready for that? Do you think he's earned it or even over enough to be the one to beat Punk? You think the WWE would let him face The Rock at the Rumble and have him win? Let him take the title all the way into WM? There's no way, he's much too green nor is he anywhere near over enough yet to get that run.

The problem with Goldberg losing wasn't him losing (and he lost by a screwy way) it was the fact that WCW had nothing for him afterwards.

I still say as long as they keep Ryback strong and he loses it won't be a big deal and having him win the title is the wrong move on the WWE's part.

I guess we'll see in a few hours though. My bet is Lesnar helps Punk win leading to the tag team Survivor Series match where Ryback gets his win back.

Now that's exactly how you end the undefeated streak gimmick but keep the wrestler strong. Yes Ryback lost because of a screwy finish and fast count but everyone's last image that people will remember if Ryback beating the crap out of the ref and hitting his finisher on Punk on the top of the cell and standing over him with one foot on his chest on top of the cage to end the PPV. He gets to keep his heat and is now no longer strapped to the undefeated gimmick.

Also surprised they jobbed Sheamus out to The Big Show. I wouldn't be shocked if Ryback ends up beating Big Show on RAW tomorrow to win that title.

  23. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

You missed the part where I said I wouldn't have RybackevenIN this match yet. He does need to be built up longer. as it is, they just killed a lot of the heat Ryback had. Despite what you say, he IS over...big time. This will hurt him.

Personally, I would have rather fed Orton to Punk if Cena couldn't go than end Ryback's streak. That PPV wasn't very good. Show winning is okay. Dude has earned a "thank you" title reign, in my opinion. The rest was just blah.

He's over big time? Give me a break and he isn't a draw (yet). His run with Punk on house shows and his merchandise sales don't suggest it either. And I doubt the buyrate for HiTC will break records or be that much higher than last year. Just because he gets a good pop when he comes out doesn't mean he's over big time. Heck Kane still gets good pops for his entrance too, I wouldn't say he's over big time. The WWE used Cena to try and help pump Ryback up and promote him, that's pretty telling. If Ryback was such a draw he wouldn't have need Cena standing there cheering for him. Again that's not to say in time Ryback won't be a megastar but at this point in time he's not a draw.

As for whether this hurts him or kills his heat, I guess we'll see in time. I think if the WWE has him just destroy the ref tonight on RAW and play clips of his finisher on Punk on the top of the cage with him celebrating with his foot on Punk's chest it will erase a lot of his "lost heat". Positioning is much more important than wins/losses. If the WWE treats Ryback's revenge as a bigger deal then a loss he'll be ok in the end.

And again he's got to lose sooner or later the WWE probably did the best job possible having him lose yet keeping him strong. Now his character won't be tied down to the undefeated gimmick that really has only worked for two wrestlers in the past 20 years.

And if Ryback was over big time a single loss, one which he was clearly screwed out of, to the WWE champion shouldn't kill his heat or hurt him.

This is the first week in a long time that i probably won't bother catching up with Raw, the rumours of Flair coming in as GM got me excited but seems its the same old stuff.

I knew the Ryback/Punk finish was never going to be clean but they really made Punk look awful, this is supposed to be the WWE Champion.. the guy who has been equal to Cena in the ring, now he is terrified of Ryback and gets destroyed? I hate how they have gone with the cowardly heel route with Punk, would be much better as being the cocky/arrogant heel who kicks ***.

Do we know if the Rock is filming a movie between Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania? if they can keep him on tv then i can see him beating Punk at Royal Rumble and then losing the title to Cena at Wrestlemania....

Yeah I'm surprised they're not bringing Lesnar in for the Survivor Series. They must be saving up his dates to really promote WM. I agree the Team Foley vs. Team Punk thing is kind of lame as we all know it's going to end with Ryback beating Punk to win the match to get his revenge on Punk for losing the title.

My main complaint about Sheamus first run as champion, he was built up as this monster heel then once he wins the belt he turns into a coward who runs. I think the cowardly heel thing works for Punk (ditto for Del Rio or The Miz for example) because he's not a big guy so I don't have an issue with that but in no way should a big muscle guy run from a fight unless the challenger is of the same build/statue.

I think that ship has sailed awhile ago. Like JT said I think he's going to be stuck in mid-card hell bouncing from the IC belt to the tag teams/tag team titles. Hey it's not the worst thing in the world as I'm sure he's making pretty good money (not main event money) but good money never the less, and I bet 90% of the current roster would kill to be in Kingston's position right now. For whatever reason he was given a shot but blew it thanks to Randy Orton and he's never been looked in that same light again.

Of course it's always possible he gets a mega push but I wouldn't count on it unless there are a lot of injuries to the roster. Personally I never thought he was going to be "world champion" material, I always figured him as upper mid card/IC/US Champion was his limit.

Watch the CM Punk DVD, amazing DVD. Great story. I remember meeting Punk in 06 maybe, I had him sign my Hitman XFL ticket and he said it was one of the weirdest thing he had to sign! He told me that he didn't think people actually went to XFL games

I think I'm going to eventually pick up his DVD, kind of waiting for the price to drop as it always seems like a year after the release the price drops by 50% of more.

I'm more interested in the Attitude DVD that's suppose to drop later this month but no details as far as content or matches have been released yet.

Would have to be the WWE since they own all his ECW and WWE matches. Can't see that one being made anytime soon. The best bet would be to keep buying the ECW ones they put out each year as they usually have at least one Tazz match on them.
