Did somebody say Pass Defense???? You gotta be kidding me!!! Pass defense???? Our pass defense looks like a bucket with a colander in the bottom. Sean Smith has been foxed on at least two passes - one of which he got away with. And they are playing off the ball so much, it's possible for Luck to hit the receiver before the DB knows it's being thrown.
I don't think the Patriots have to worry! Brady will like this secondary, like last season. Wild Card or bust for Miami...even though this secondary will just get us bounced in the first round, it would be nice experience.
I don't understand why we're playing off their receivers so much. We're giving them 5 and 7 yard cushions and then not wrapping up when we tackle. We can't put any pressure on Luck because he is so skilled at moving around in the pocket. I would like to see us play some press coverage on these receivers. But despite how poorly we've played we're still in a position to win.
And we just gave up the yardage necessary to set the NEW rookie passing record... 433 yards AGAINST!!!!!! Lord, have mercy...Shades of Olivadotti..... Who is our Defensive Coordinator again??
Kevin Coyle. He's a good DC. We've gotten a lot of our guys to over achieve, we just don't have the talent we need. We knew Luck was this good.
Not enough talent in the secondary. Awful QBs have inflated this defense to something it's not. Still the same old can stop the run but can't stop the pass bull****. The good news is this team has a QB that almost played keep up.
I know.. I know... I've been having flashbacks to days of yore when we could pass for 300 yards and lose! Seems to be repeating itself! Luck is good, but the team made a lot of mistakes in the backfield. Like you said... not enough good players!
As poorly as we played, we only lost by 3 points. And we can point to a really terrible holding call on our final punt return that took us out of starting the drive just outside field goal range as the difference maker. But let's not fool ourselves. Sean Smith and Jake Long are the biggest culprits in this loss. Though the defensive play calling does not get a pass. I still don't understand why we continued to give such big cushions to their receivers the entire game. On the offensive side of the ball I keep waiting for Mike Sherman to finally start using Reggie Bush in some creative ways but he never fails to disappoint in that area. I always point to the fact that after wins this place always thinks we're going to the playoffs and after losses this place always thinks this team is full of bums. Anyone who wanted to be realistic with themselves knew what kind of competition we had faced so far this season and knew the truth that this team hadn't truly been tested. We failed our test today. But like I said, we knew Luck was this good. We need more talent, but our coaches are getting the talent we do have to overachieve for a large part and we got torched by the new golden boy. There was a reason people wanted us to tank the season last year to get him. There are reasons he was considered the most can't miss prospect since Manning and Elway. He showed why today. We just gotta get back at it next week. And hopefully stop being such a bipolar fan base. Though I don't truly hold out much hope for that.
People keep trying to tell me sean smith is good meh I dont see it he can never track the ball in the air ever carroll is the best corner on our team atm would of never guessed that coming into the season. Vontae trade just seems glaring when we play passing teams should be interesting to see how we look vs the pats our db depth is just empty atm.
Pass Defense?? They were just that today. There's really no other way to explain it. They were awful. Ive never seen so many WR's open by 5+ yards in my life.
Our pass defense has been horrible for a few years now. I could give two squats what the the Ds overal rank is our defensive backfield is perhaps the worst in the NFL. The last 4 games some really good passes have been dropped by other teams receivers or the whole enchalada may look a little different record wise. Although this kid Luck is most certainly the next coming of a Manning we had no answer for his receivers nor did we get pressure on him consistently and their Oline is not the greatest. Kid can move though.
When has our pass defense ever been not terrible against any QB worth a damn? Seriously, it's been awhile. This defense has been padding stats against the Mark Sanchez's, Kevin Kolb's, and Sam Bradford's of the world for awhile now, and then faltering vs. any good QB.
Was playing University of Miami's bend don't break defense. I think the possible reason was because they didn't want to get dusted by T.Y. Hilton or Reggie Wayne.
Just as I said the other day... This game was on the front four. ZERO pressure on Luck for 99% of the game. I've also been preaching all season that Sean Smith is out of position WAY TOO MUCH! Well he was exposed in this game. Wilson isn't good enough to be covering Reggie Wayne... The O-line looked like garbage as well. The Secondary looked the same as all season, they just got exposed when there was no pressure on the QB! On the other hand... Tannehill! One heck of a game! Just not enough talent to help him.
I've said it since Smith was drafted that he was terrible and I would get ripped apart. Hopefully everyone else sees what I'm seeing.
There was quite a bit of pressure. Andrew Luck just did a really good job escaping it, and Sean Smith and Jimmy Wilson had awful games.
The pressure rarely if ever came from up the middle. Randy Starks was absent when he was in, and Jared Odrick was absent when he was moved inside on passing downs. These are the kinds of players who are going to have to step up with much bigger games than that if this team is going to get over the hump and become the kind of team that can travel on the road and win a game it's favored in. Those guys can't play well in other games and then disappear in the kinds of games that can go a lot of the way toward establishing this team's identity as a good team. If you want to become a good team, your better players have to play big in the games that can establish that. They can't just vanish.
I've been saying it all along as well. Afraid of contact and no ball skills. Brutal. I'm sure the SS lovers will say i'm nuts but all I have to say is WATCH THE GAME
I think the pass rush was pretty much what we expected. Give Luck credit for extending plays and give their receivers, tight ends, and backs, credit for getting open on those plays. Some plays were ridiculous, but Miami KNEW they were going to pass it! What made this difficult was Luck's ability to move around and out of the pocket and get off passes even when someone had a hand on him. Dude is big and strong. The Sean Smith TD was awful, but they've been running around all game. He was 40 yards downfield and was probably spent. Does not excuse the play, but I understand maybe why it happened. Was just a lucky play.
Now let's give Smith credit for some early play in the year. He has been pretty physical up to this point. I honestly think he was so spent that he reverted back to his old wimpy ways. That's what I think happened. This team played without energy and passion save for a few players. But some key players (Sean Smith) just sort of laid a goose egg. Imagine how difficult it must be for a DB and an end to continue with pressure over the course of 50 pass plays, especially when they're throwing bombs?? I can't blame the defense for being a little tired. BUT, it's their fault. Those 3rd and longs were absolutely uncalled for.
