Our playoff hopes are as good as anyone elses in the AFC. Really is amazing how bad the AFC is this year.
There definitely is some hope. The next stretch of games is winnable, but they just have to take it one day at a time.
I can't quite put my finger on it. On one hand I think the AFC sucks this year, on the other hand I think it could be tougher and harder to dominate this year. I think there will be a handful of good AFC teams with 5 or 6 losses that could beat anyone in the NFC in a Super Bowl besides Atlanta and the 49ers. Who knows, it hurts my brain to think about it to much. I am just glad we are right there in the thick of things and we appear to be seperating our selves from the pack. Last time I clicked on that playoff simulation link we were the 5th seed and I feel that's pretty accurate and will probably be the best case scenario for us if we keep up the good work. I think its very likely to still hold true by the end of the season. I've always been an optimist, but i am not so much of an optimist to think we will be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best team in the AFC. Although I feel like any of that is possible with the AFC this year.
One thing that's depressing about that playoff link is that the Colts are in the playoffs if the season ended right now. I know that won't be true by the end of the year, makes you wonder if we shouldn't be there to. I know we have the same record, but we play each other next week. When I look at the list, AFC and NFC, everything looks right except the Colts and maybe us. I feel like we deserve to be there though.
We wont make the playoffs if the Colts beat us next week, their schedule is cake the rest of the way.
For what it's worth... This guy who comes into my job and we talk football. Very knowledgable...has won a lot on NFL betting.... He thinks we can definetely take the division or a wildcard.
I don't know about winning the East, but the way Philbin has us playing, and the parity in the league, we have a sarong punchers chance to make the playoffs. Sent from my iPhone
I think it's just a case of the AFC being extremely mediocre. Teams that were supposed to be great like New England are mediocre. Texans are the only really great team. Denver I think is about to pull away from the rest of the pack as well with Peyton clearly back to being Peyton, and their defense. After that, it's anybody's guess.
We need to win 3 of the next 4 and then I think we are legit and in the playoffs. We should beat Indy, Titans and Buffalo for sure. Seattle scares me. If we win those 3 we are 7-4 heading in to Dec. At that point we just need to split with NE. I think 10-6 or 11-5 is very possible. Heck, 11-5 might get us a home playoff game!
Also, do you guys realize that if we win those 2 OT games (dammit Carp!!!) we have 1 loss and the BEST record in the AFC with Houston??? That's huge.
I just hope this season doesn't turn into another 2008. Instead of a mirage like that season, I hope it's a taste of whats to come in the future.
We have Indy next week. Need to root for our division foes to lose and basically any team in the AFC to lose. In my opinion Denver and New England are going to run away with this thing along with Houston. So we need teams that are similar record wise to us to lose. Denver should beat the Bengals which is good for us Houston should beat the Bills which is good for us Hopefully the Giants can beat the Steelers And maybe just maybe the Browns upset Baltimore. If these things happen and we can net a win against the Colts it cushions our playoff hopes.
That's what I"m talking about. Look at the where we stand in the afc thread to put things in perpective. I made a list of the records in the AFC, its so much better than looking at the division standings.
I have this worry as well. The Dolphins making the playoffs in 2008 was a fluke, and it changed the mindset of the front office into thinking they were closer to competing than they actually were, which resulted in bad contracts to older players like Justin Smiley and Jake Grove. If the team were to make the playoffs, they can't allow it to get to their heads and make dumb, shortsighted moves like last time. There's still a lot of work to be done.
It is for real. That year we had the gimmick of the WildCat to propel us forward in a Brady-less division. This year we are winning in all 3 facets of the game. We are always prepared. We are (legitimately) penalized very little. We adjust.
Jerry..Martin..Tannehill..Carroll..Rjones..Lane..Wilson..Odrick..Thigpen..that's a different starting team than last year.
Does this concern anybody? I mean even though the AFC is down as a whole, our schedule seems pretty cupcake.
That won't happen with Philbin. That's thew whole point of his measured demeanor. Its to never get too high or too low. He is methodical and its for a reason.
It will create a whole new challenge and seperate the men from boys when we win our division, make it into the playoffs and find ourselves with a tough schedule next year. Then we will have a real measure on how good this team is. Tannehill will have a year under his belt and the entire team will have a year under their belt of Philbin-footballnomics. lol We will have another productive off season with much more weapons. I can't wait til we use all our picks. April will feel like Christmas. A tougher schedule doesn't scare me. We will be better, more prepared, and have some talented rookies. Plus the AFC isn't so tough anymore. My attitude is: Bring it!
Did you just quote my favorite movie that I've probably seen 25 times and can quote every line? I think that makes us best online friends. LOL
Like you stated, Sparano was stuck with Henne after Pennington went down. Henne was never a quality QB and even though some people on here think Henne didn't succeed in Miami because of the coaching. I believe Henne failed in Miami because he just wasn't very good. The fact that he is now the backup QB on one of the worst teams in the NFL tells me all I need to know about how other teams around the league feel about Henne. Teams like the Cardinals and the Chiefs showed no interest in him during the off season, even though they needed QB help. Philbin has the advantage of having Tannehill as the teams starting QB. Tannehill appears to be the real deal and since QB is the most important player on an NFL roster, the Dolphins should not go into a downward spiral as the team did after the 2008 season. This team has more quality players on the team then they had in 2008. With all the draft picks and money under the cap to upgrade some of their positions, I just don't see the Dolphins being a one year wonder as they were in 2008. Unless they totally blow the draft and they let players like Smith, Long, and Starks leave in free agency. It appears that this team is headed in the right direction and should be a team to contend with in the AFC for several years to come. Philbin has already shown me that he is a far better HC than Sparano. I only expect his coaching to get better as he gets more experience as an NFL head coach. I believe that one of the best things Philbin has done as the HC was to put together a quality coaching staff. With him as the HC and the coaching staff he has assembled, I only see a brighter future for the Dolphins organization. I have no fear that he will follow in the footsteps of Sparano and regress as a HC after his first season with the Dolphins.
Its not a good time to bump this thread up but I have to be consistent. We just have to beat the Pats twice or win against a team like 49ers. This game sucked. It was a nail biter and we loss another one by 3 points. Very depressing!
I really felt we had to win this game to make the playoffs.I think we will finish at 8-8 and miss the playoffs again.Very depressed after this loss.
How i feel most fans view playoffs Week 1: HELL NO! This team is garbage. I don't see a win on the schedule Week 2: We have hope! Reggie Bush is going to win the Rushing title! Hartline is MVP! Offense looks great Week 3: Not if Carpenter is on this team. We need to close games out Week 4: Not if Carpenter is on this team. We need to close games out Week 5: 2-3! we have a chance! Week 6: 3-3! Playoffs here we come! This team is amazing! Finally learning how to close out games Bye Week 7: SUPERBOWL! We destroyed the JETS! GO MIAMI! See you in February! AMAZING D! Week 8: This team is garbage! their D is terrible Week 9: Stay tuned!
If this team could play consistently, opinions might be consistent. One week we look strong, the next week like posers. Today, we looked like posers. Andrew Luck exposed us. Luckily, I didn't get to caught up in the hype. Thought our offense would fail us before the D though. I knew the secondary was suspect, but not Andrew Luck record breaking day suspect.
9-7 is no longer looking that good to get it done now that we're on the wrong end of a tiebreaker with Indy. Realistically we'd probably need 6-2 in the second half to get into the postseason. I can't see that happening. I'm hoping for 8 to 9 wins and momentum for next year.
Well, lets beat the Titans, Jets lose to Seattle, Pats beat buffalo, we are still in 2nd place of division
