Would make no sense for Ross to sell before getting a new stadium.

No he won't, unless he pays for most of it himself which I strongly doubt he'll do.

Billionaire that has made most of his fortune developing real estate with the help of taxpayer subsidies. That billionaire buys a team in a league that routinely gets the taxpayer to fund new stadiums. The team he buys needs a new stadium. Getting the taxpayer to subsidize his development is Ross' wheelhouse. As close to a slam dunk as I've seen.

Broward County already rejected Ross' proposal for a tourist tax to fund renovations. Now they're going to fund a new stadium? Nope.

Absolutely they will. Put enough grease on the skids and it will slide right through.

Maybe not within the next year or two, but within 5 years he absolutely will secure funding.

Not if it might cost them their jobs. Then there is a chance that their contractors are replaced which means no kickbacks,

I highly doubt this. At this time, he is only talking renovations and he's having no luck with that.

Look at what happened with the Marlins. No way a publicly funded stadium gets a greenlight for at least another decade, maybe longer.

Right, but if they are put into their jobs by Ross to fund the stadium...

The only way the Dolphins play in a new stadium in the next 5 years is if they move to L.A.

Its not that it was publicly funded because only a portion was, and more could be drawn from the public in the future but it's how they went about it.

A city counsel does not always have to have a public vote to get approval for a tourist/hotel tax

No way that ever happens. LA has already failed. Miami's attendance history is proven.

That's what the Marlins did and the mayor was voted out of office right afterwards. So it will be something that any city counsel person will be very worried about. Fraud would totally ruin a politician.

No, it won't. Look at a county map of South Florida.

Ross has understandably been looking to sell a significant minority stake in the team since he bought out Huizenga. Trouble its simply not a good investment with the stadium situation as it is, except for someone who really, really wants to buy Ross out shortly after. Ross doesn't look like someone ready to move out of the majority position for a good while however.

End result is Ross having discussions with people but no deal. I imagine once conditions change he'll start the eventual drip drip sale.

There is absolutely no way Ross will get a new stadium in South Florida, unless he does like Joe Robbie and builds it himself. The citizens of Miami Dade County are already fed up with the politicians who voted to approve the the building of the major league baseball stadium. In fact the mayor who was a major reason the stadium was built without voter approval was, recalled by over 80% of those who voted in the recall election.

Ross is already 72 years old. So if he wants to see a new stadium in Miami before he is too old to appreciate it. He better fork over the millions of dollars it will take to get the stadium built, because the taxpayers of Miami aren't going to give him one red cent. Ross is a billionaire, Robbie was one of the poorest owners in the NFL at the time he build his stadium. If Robbie could build a brand new stadium without tax dollars, Ross should certainly be able to afford to build a new stadium without expecting any money from tax payers.

Many of us have been going to games for years. Perhaps those fans who live out of state and complain about the lack of attendance, should hop on a airplane and fly to Miami to see at least one game a year.

You could apply this rationale to any city. Cities keep making the same mistakes over and over. Stephen Ross didn't become a billionaire by taking risks with his own money. Of course you would like to think that it won't happen, but Ross isn't donating $200k+ to political campaigns because he cares about the politics.

Never say never. Eventually, the ultimatum will be "build a new stadium or the Dolphins are headed to L.A."
Just like the league did to Minnesota.

That's pretty funny. Joe Robbie Stadium cost $115M to build and the new Cowboys stadium cost $1.2B. Apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to see a partnership between Mr. Ross, the U and a hotel tax in Broward and Dade. That doesn't cost local taxpayers anything. Please don't minimize the economical boon a major sporting event brings to the communities. I like the stadium plan DJ posted a week or so ago, I just don't know where to put it.
