What the hell happended to lamar miller?I know he has issues picking up the bliz but really not one carry. He was activated right?
He almost came up with a fumbled punt in the first, I think. Philbin clearly trusts Reggie more, but yeah, I expected to at least see some kind of action.
I'm really surprised. I think if Bush went down we'd see Lane get 20 carries. If Lane went down, they'd put Thigpen back there. Not sure what makes Miller so reprehensible to the staff, but giess it has something to do with him not looking convincingly 'ready' in practice.
The Dolphins were having a hard enough time with the Rams pass rush with Reggie in the backfield. I just don't think the coaching staff has enough confidence in Miller as a blocker right now. I think Miller will get his chances as the year goes along. Today just wasn't a day to put him in against all the blitzes the Rams were running. Heck, our experienced offensive linemen were having trouble picking up the blitzes. Miller would have been more a concern than a help if he had been in the game much today.
IDK what is going on with him… but to think they trust Thomas who fumbles the ball every 15 or so carries and avg's less than 3.5 yards per carry
From what I have read the reason Miller is getting much is because he is still having trouble learning the playbook. I think it was either vs the Raiders or Cardinals but he had a run where ran ran a different and Tannehill was left alone with the ball on a run. His struggles probably show up more at practice
His problems are pass protections. He is plenty smart enough know the playbook by now. Blocking is something he has never had to do until he reached the NFL
They trust Thomas in pass protection, and he's been excellent at it. It's obviously important and explains why Miller doesn't get a lot of playing time.
I don't know about that, it was nice seeing Reggie used in the screen game. Ticks me off to no end when we call a screen to Thomas when we have 2 other RB who are wayyyyy better in open space. We finally play-actioned inside the 5, like to see more of that and I'd like to start play-action, rollout on 3rd n 1 and give tanny the run/pass option because its clear we aren't going to pound it up the middle for a yard.
I don't buy it. That was the thing everyone heard when he came out. I think it's 'groupthink'. We read it so many times we took it as fact. Then trhough training camp word began coming from coaches that Lamar was looking good in pass protection. Then in footage of scrimmages he looked very good in pass protection. Then during the season, more people have been saying (on here at the Phins, and through pressers) that Lamar is doing well with pass pro pickups. My own eyes have tended to confirm this. The only thing I have seen is one play where Lamar went to the right for the handoff and Tannehill went to the left. Philbin or Sherman (I forget who) mentioned it being something to work on. And since then he has seen far far faaar fewer touches than in the couple games prior to that. If there are pass pro problems it's either 1) a leftover fallacy from what we heard in the spring about Lamar, before he showed up in camp or 2) He has regressed in practice, but no one is reporting it. Or perhaps we are both right. Miller blocks pass rushers well, but when he is told WHO he is responsible to pick up he may blow the assignment mentally and 'go the wrong way'. Whatever it is, they don't rut him. And it's not about talent or physicality from what I've seen of the kid.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if Philbin is erring on the side of caution, knowing that he's got an ace up his sleeve. A fresh pair of legs like Miller's is a nice boost later on in the season. Yeah, I don't believe it either... Oh well, time is not going to hurt Lamar. Good time for the bye, our O-line needs to freshen up.
