Glad to see the game is rigged after two drives.

A holding call that has nothing to do with the play, and a roughing the punter where the defender gets shoved into him.

We cant beat ourselves, we have to beat two opponents already.

Can't catch. Can't cover anybody. Not even sure why we came off the bus for this. Maybe if we're lucky they'll leave OHNOfrio and Wieclaw in Chicago.

Drops all over the place, lineman moving like crap, running backs getting the snot knocked out of them....

Lucky I'm not doing their future schedules. I'd schedule as many possible snow games as i could.

This is bull****. Had no idea we were playing the Notre Dame fighting refs today.

The BS roughing the punter call, the ND receivers holding on the outside and blocking in the back on almost every run, the BS person foul penalty right there, every good kick return is a hold or block in the back.

    BS

Are you not seeing how the actual team is beating the snot out of UM? A few lousy calls makes no difference when no one wants to tackle, and the DC is making no adjustments against the run.

We should have been up 14-6 at halftime or at worst 7-6. Instead we were down 13-3. Those calls did matter.

    You still think so?

There was holding on Morris' TD run. Blatent holding and if it had not been holding Morris was getting tackled at the 10

The refs sucked but had no impact on this game. OhNofrio is simply put the worst DC in the history of football. Golden can either fire him or GTFO because I refuse to see anymore of the worst scheme I've ever seen. Any scheme where you can't even see the CB's on TV because they're lined up 50 yards off the WR, is a pathetic scheme.

Isn't the scheme their running Golden's scheme?

I don't think Coach No D will get canned.

I'm not sure how much firing him would do though. The d-lineman is the worst of all time at Miami and that's where it all starts. There is potential at LB, corner, and safety but zero on the line. Fans expect too much out of Chickillo, too. He is playing alongside Corey King, Shayon Green, and a bunch of other bums.

Whatevs, lets just win the coastal.

With that said, recruit some stud interior lineman. The 86 yard drive in which they didn't throw a single pass was the worst TD drive I have ever experienced Miami give up. Pushed off the ball 3-4 feet on every play.

Darius Smith and Corey King...cmon man!

Bush, Perryman, and EJ are all possible stars. Unfortunately, none lie on the 1st level of defense.

Yeah, I sure hope this is not the scheme any coach wants to consistantly run. These guys are so young, and with the Dline being what they are, its kind of hard to bring them up any closer. But I think I would because backing them up over 10 yards on every play is rediculous.

  29. Ozzy

    Ozzy Premium Member Luxury Box

Yes they are potentially stars but have been very inconsistant in showing it. Unfortunately we can only hope they grow as the season goes on.

The defensive line is absolutely horrible and until we see some talent there it's going to stunt the growth of anyone behind them.

Golden used a 3-4 as the DC at UVA so I don't think this is his scheme, or we'd be using a 3-4.

Our DL is the WOAT plain and simple. They might even be worse than OhNofrios scheme. The DT's especially are hot garbage. We need to bring in several Juco DL.

The most ridiculous part is that in order to get pressure, we need to blitz. When you have the CB's 15 yard off the WR, combined with the most obvious blitzes, what the hell is the point of blitzing? The QB can easily dump the ball of with the receiver picking up 10 yards before contact. Just a pathetic scheme all around that allows teams to pick up 5+ yards every play because of the design.

Which is really inexcusable for a DC to do!! That's the one thing I cannot see how Golden can keep letting him do....

Very interesting article. Paul Johnson explaining why he fired Al Groh. Interesting because it fits OhNofrio and this defense like a glove. Keep in mind, Golden and OhNo coached under Groh at UVA. We run almost the same exact scheme, only difference being a 4-3 instead of a 3-4. Gives great insight into the scheme, and why it's failing for us.

Basically, we run a 2 gap scheme where the DL are more responsible for gap control, as opposed to penetration. And our DL just aren't strong enough, or smart enough for it. Also, just like GT, it's clear our players just aren't capable, either because of youth, or just not being good enough, to handle the amount of zone defense they're asked to play.

I'll be honest...I hate zone defense in college football period. These kids don't all have NFL instincts that make the zone defense work. In college football I'd rather bet on the physical ability of my defensive players rather than their football IQ.

Of course you throw in some zones to keep teams guessing, but I think unless you have ridiculous smarts and talent on defense running mainly zone isn't going to work against decent offenses.

Pretty much. We basically run a cover 3 scheme. Even when we blitz, we use a fire zone, which is still basically a cover 3. It's a bend don't break scheme. With the CB's lined up so far off the WR covering a deep zone plus a safety covering the deep middle zone, you keep everything in front of the defense.

The problem with the scheme is rather simple. All the underneath routes are the responsibility of the linebackers. You need athletic, instinctive, preferably experienced linebackers. Our linebackers are certainly athletic, however anything but instinctive and experienced. Eddie Johnson is consistently out of position and slow to react in pass coverage. Same with Paul and Cornelius. If it were up to me Paul would go back inside with Kirby or even Perryman moving outside. Either way, it's really alarming how much of a disaster our run defense is considering cover 3 is supposed to be great against the run, since typically there's 8 men in the box.

Plain and simple we need to run a lot more man coverage. I'd much rather trust the athleticism and raw talent of the players to defend a man as opposed to trusting their instincts, football smarts, and experience to cover zones. I'd much rather force teams to attempt to beat us deep than going underneath all game for consistent 10+ yard gains. And I'd much rather man blitz because at this point, we literally can't be any worse. No reason why we're not utilizing Tracy Howard's biggest strengths which are physicality, press coverage, and instincts. Not to mention McGee might be the fastest corner in the nation so playing him closer shouldn't hurt too much either. So maybe instead of giving QB's guaranteed first downs to underneath guys on every blitz, we actually give our athletes a chance to make plays in man coverage. Actually force a QB to throw into tight windows every now and again...

And while we're at it, scrap this ridiculous 2 gap scheme. Nobody runs it. Not in the NFL, not in college. The only other teams that run it that come to mind are Georgia Tech, and they just fired their DC, and Nebraska. I'm sure Laces Out can tell us all about the disaster that is Nebraska's defense this year, much of it because they don't have the players required to run that scheme as they have in previous years. We have the worst DL in the country. It isn't a shock to anybody that giving them 2 gap responsibility instead of just one has resulted in disaster. They're not strong enough. Not smart/instinctual enough. And not experienced enough. And really in the case of guys like Green, Cain and pretty much all of our DT's, just not talented enough.

Absolute hot stinky mess. I would have eaten Braxton Miller alive and nailed his GF post game. You need game changers to run 2 gap successfully.

    Signed,

    Ndomukong Suh

In all seriousness, Iowa used to 2 gap, we stole coach Kaz, and he actually has been begging to play 1 gap and to turn our DL loose to do work. Nebraska's problems are part athletes, part stubborn, unimaganitive Cover 2 wonk(Pelini) who can't seem to figure out what is happening on the field. There are multiple write ups about the tOSU debacle that are fantastic football reads regardless of rooting interest, I'd link but I'm on my phone.

2:30 today. I'm sure our offense will get back on track, but can our defense stop anyone?
