"Volin ‏@BenVolinPBP Sherman also credits OL coach Jim Turner for helping John Jerry lose about 35 pounds since the start of camp."

My favorite moment from hard knocks was when Turner was telling his staff that he was going to get up inside Jerry's ***, Turner stated when I'm done with him, if he doesn't get it, it's on him"

I knew exactly what he meant..he's gonna show him lessons on his craft and life to the best of his abilities..

I mean if you have talent, and you have this guy as your mentor, and you fail, then it's on you, cause not only do you not know how to be a professional athlete, but you fail in life as well by not meeting the challenge given of becoming a man.

It looks like this guy has accepted that challenge, I saw him square up on several occasions where he looked to have the porptential that Turner was talking about.

What I hope for moving forward, is that he's doing this with the right mentality and is he being properly educated.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Big JJ for meetung the challenge of what seems to be a great oline coach.

I sure as hell wouldn't let that dude down.

Imagine if this kid can improve to his potential? We'd be dominat on both fronts.

I think giving him extra reps once Hicks got injured really helped his conditioning.

We will have to see if he gets it during this next off season IMO. Right now, he's doing well because he's practicing every day and working every day because the coaches are making him. The real measure will be during the time off. Let's see what he does then.

That's why I added what I would hope is going on, true commitment as a staff to educate this man on strength and conditioning.

When you are battling ignorance about nutrition it's hard to make that person understand the complete big picture..

These players are investments, we need to invest into them learning how to train and eat..I don't know how much of that goes on inside football franchise, but I would be on the cutting edge of it if it was mine...

Make sure he has a personal chef and trainer this offseason.

I don't know Jerry has shown tremendous upside. He's rallied and become a pretty solid player and isn't a bust, but I don't know he's got the power and the deceptive athleticism he was advertised as.

I think the more notable issue now is our other Guard, who isn't really living up to his hype and I think going forward is a pretty good candidate for replacement.

JJ plays soft, I like his game but he is one of those large guys who has no sand in his bucket.

A lot of that is still a technique issue. For instance, the play where Lane got the first down but got a poor spot was in question largely because John let the defender get lower than he did. Line play is a game of leverage, and you cannot let your technique slide in a leverage game. It won't matter much how strong you are.

Oh sure, but when you watch him play his man rarely gets "popped" JJ for all of his size is more of a positional blocker then a mauler.

He definitely has the frame of a tackle, his height is a bit of a drawback at RG as he has trouble getting low on blocks.

Such professed belief can only motivate the player, it would be tough to see it as a drawback

He reminds me of Solai. Remember it took Solai 4yrs before he really learned to be a professional. Clearly Jerry has a huge upside and as long as he's improving he'll be fine. It just goes to show how krappy the previous coaching staff was teaching and developing players. Kudos to Philbin and his staff. There are making a HUGE difference!!!
