It seems like all coaches are really dumb if all they have to do to stop Brian Hartline is to not give him a cushion and not do that.

The first play he didn't beat the defender at all. It actually illustrates my point perfectly. The defender was stride for stride with him all the way down the sideline. That was a beautiful decision by Moore to under throw it where Hartline could come back to the ball.

The second play if you look the corner actually nearly falls over himself down the sideline, which is how Hartline separated.

I never said that. I said he isn't a deep threat based on his physical ability. You will never see a safety shading deep because Brian Hartline is lined up outside.

So what is his actually being our deep threat based upon then? craftiness?

his game is based on prejudice of opposing CB's, I think is basically what you are trying to say:chuckle:

He's the fuggin' trojan horse of wide receivers:sidelol:

No, I'm trying to say that Brian Hartline doesn't scare anyone. He doesn't have the speed to get over the top and thus doesn't back up the safeties or cause them to shade deep. He can get open deep on busted coverage (his 80 yard play) extended plays (That one sideline catch where his corner lost him) and the occasional double move.

However on a play to play basis you don't defend yourself against Brian Hartline beating you deep. Therefor if you don't defend yourself you must not feel very threatened. If you don't feel threatened than the player in question isn't a threat.

A threat is something the defense plans for and respects on every play. Notice how you NEVER see safety help deep on Hartline?

No, seriously, what's gonna be your go to move when they start rolling safety help over the top?:chuckle:

The funniest part is you still don't realize you've painted yourself into a corner...

nobody wants to pay Long that kind of money. but if we let him walk, we will potentially spend years moaning how we can't replace him and Tannehill is getting killed by the pass rush.

Hartline is a pretty solid #2. He should be paid as such. As far as Long goes, Pay the man. Not sure I'm comfortable with 12 mil a year, but the way the league is pass happy now having a great LT is a must. As far as him being dinged up, I still blame Sparano for his shear stupidity in the preseason a couple of years back. Playing the whole offensive line late in the last preseason game against Dalls was inexcusable.

Long may not be worth that much to us the fans but Franchise LTs do not grow on trees and someone will pay him what he wants. He may just be in a slump and then we will regret not having a LT having to spend a another first round pick on one .:pity:

the LT's of Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Matthew Stafford, Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers aren't world beaters at their position but they get the job done that all of these guys have put up good numbers

Take care of those that take care of you. Love the message. If you over-achieve on the team, you will be rewarded. This is a good signal for the rest of the team.

While Hartline isn't a burner and I wouldn't argue that he is one... the reason why corners bite on that double move is b/c A) We run those outs and comebacks all game. They are the most common routes in our passing game, and B) He is very good at selling that double move.

We run those routes all day. Eventually, the D starts to sit on those routes and we get them with the double move. I think it has a lot more to do with that then not respecting his speed, b/c while Hartline ain't a 4.3 burner, he still has speed that needs to be respected.

Brian Hartline's success is basically the equivalent of a special ed kid getting voted to prom King or Queen. It's just really just them getting together and being very nice, it's not real but it makes him feel good and it doesn't really cost the defenders and coaches of the league anything.

Actually signing him to a contract is a bit much though we should be going after a real free agent who is a deep threat like Ted Ginn, Devin Aromashodu, or Joshua Cribbs.

You are right. We need a real deep threat.Tedd Ginn has never beaten anyone with a double move. I doubt he even knows how to run one. He is clearly a better deep threat than Hartline.

One would hope the sarcasm-o-meter on this was pegged far, far to the right...

    either that...

Hold on, I thought Ireland could only be held accountable for the players signed and drafted since Parcells left the Dolphins. The last I checked, Hartline and Bess were both players signed by the Dolphins while Parcells was running the show.

I love how Ireland gets all the credit for the players who have worked out while Parcells was running the organization, but Parcells gets all the blame for the players who failed while he was here.

I have ALWAYS thought Ireland should receive credit for the players who have worked out over the five years he has been the teams GM. I also think he deserves the blame for those players who have not succeeded with the Dolphins.

By the way, The Rams, with Fisher as their HC beat the Cardinals last night. The Cardinals scored only 3 points on the Rams. Anyone who thinks the Rams will be an easy victory for the Dolphins next week, better reconsider.

Why would you begin contract negotiations are after a franchise game?? Probably could have done this in the pre-season for less money.....

I was just thinking this. They also suddenly began contract negotiations with Reggie Bush after he had that ridiculous game against the Raiders. Good thing they didn't finish those negotiations too quickly because he was hurt a week later.

It was the Rams getting behind the offensive line that won that game last night Fisher watched the tape and went for the juggler.
I am not saying we will win easy but I say we fight better against the Rams than the Cards did. Rams put up 141 passing yards.

I am not saying the Dolphins won't win the game. I am just saying that the Rams game is going to be much tougher then many people thought it was going to be when the schedule came out. They have a very solid defense and an excellent pass rush. They also are effective against the run.

The players are backing him into a dangerous hole here.....

Long, Bush, Starks, Hartline, hell even Fasano......the later in the season it goes the more #leverage that goes to the players with the open market looming and only 1 tag to use on arguably 4 worthy players. Fasano has them by the chops because if he leaves that position might be the most worrisome of them all....

...or maybe reporters start digging into it harder to find out these details after these players have big games since the public interest is there.

I find that more likely that Ireland just calling the players agent for the first time the Monday after a big game.
