Just read a Herald article on our dominant ground game. I have to think Tony Soarano is all too aware of how good our O Line can be... And even more so with a committed John Jerry and new rookie RT. I expect Rex Ryan will sell out to stop the run and force the rookie QB to beat him in the air. Tannehill can't do that with Naanee on the field, IMO. What I expect in the game is this: - drives featuring Naanee will end in punts - drives with Naanee mainly off the field will move at least forty yards (accounting for points depending on field position) This would be an excellent week for Anthony Armstrong to make an impact. Perhaps Hartline can teach him how to do that with zero practice in the offense. Lol.
PFF pay have been focused on the wrong indicator. From what I saw the key to the Jets-Steelers game was when Pittsburgh broke tendency and went primarily to a bump and run man style defense midway thru the first half, or after NY's second series. The Steelers forced him to stay in the pocket and make precision throws vs tight coverage, Sanchez couldn't do it and he looked bad trying. The Steelers generated some pressure on occasion but nothing overly disruptive. Like us, they only have one guy who can generate a consistent rush. Woodley looked good but I wouldn't put him the same class of Cam Wake from a pass rushing stand point at the moment. I think we'll be able to generate a decent rush with the guys we have. The key will be whether our CBs can lock up on their WRs. Conversely, the Jets' pass rush is pathetic when they are not blitzing. Even against Pittsburgh's mediocre unit they were unable to generate much of anything with a four man rush. Roethlisberger loves to scramble around and improvise but it's tough to evade pressure when there's none coming. Without Revis Island locking down a 3rd of the field Rex Ryan broke tendency and went to a more passive, zone based coverage scheme, exposing the soft underbelly of his defense, the complete absence of a real pass rush threat. If Revis is out again we may be able to eke out a few completions as we did against Oakland and move the ball well enough to wear the Jets' defense down in the second half. If Revis plays we could struggle to even make a first down and it'll be our defense that's in danger of wearing down. Like the man said, They better get Revis back or their gonna get run.
Yeah guys, I think the D should be as physical as possible. Shonn Greene had the head injury... help him out with that. I would also like to see our D line hold up their end without assistance; pass and run. On obvious passing downs, show blitz and drop into zone. Offense, I love the idea of running Lane at Scott a few times! They will obviously try to contain RT in the pocket and force him to throw. A couple nice play-action passes should cure that. Maybe move Hartline around this week, though his specialty is working the sideline, he needs to develop some in the middle of the field as well. Work Bess on quick slants from everywhere, and send Fasano up the seam. Reggie, and Lane underneath with sprinkles of Miller and Clay.
