the easier thing to do would be to deny deny deny... especially since no visual/audio evidence exists yet...

The general manager is not and should not be above shaking a hand and saying hello once in a while.

I was thinking "where is security?", but Ireland was being nice and greeting and chatting with fans when "Sean" came through.

Too many people saw it, including people working on that concourse that day. So, no that would not be very easy at all. Don't give reporters a story to search out. They will find it.

Yeah, but then what happens when video surfaces 2 days later? Ireland did the right thing by admitting to it right away.

Uh the fan has a right to voice his displeasure. Ireland has to know better in that situation and just smile and walk way.
There's no defending him here. He was wrong.

yeah that's the most shocking thing. Which goes to something CK pointed out, you don't hear about the positive fan experiences with him. Ireland just game from a couple of fans gushing over him. Naturally, he'd think it would continue. He'd be wise to have some security with him IMO.

And the other thing to consider is, just because no audio/video evidence has surfaced at this moment, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If they do what you consider the easiest thing and deny, deny, deny, and then someone posts a simple cell phone video (seems like everyone's got one of those of every incident nowadays), suddenly this story is 100x bigger than it should be because you flat out lied about it.

The risk/reward is not there. The Dolphins needed to get in front of this one and have Ireland admit it right away.

Seriously, I could see them letting fans meet and greet fans. During halftime? Really? You're asking for trouble.

And why in the world would the Dolphins Organization allow this guy to be any where near fans after the banner flown over the stadium last year and the protest in Davie?!?!

If your GM needs security, he probably shouldn't be the GM. That's like, not a good sign. Or something.

What's wrong with "jeez, sir, give your players a chance!" instead of "A******?" He's the general manager of an NFL franchise, for cripessake. But at least he controlled himself and didn't say anything about the guy's mother.

This man has a serious people skills deficit.

The risk of letting fans have access to executives during halftime of an NFL game is a lot bigger than whatever reward you are seeking.

You want fans to be able to meet Ireland? Do it before the game or during TC practices or whatnot. Not during halftime when fans very likely have 5-6 drinks inside of them.

Or he could just realize he's in the business of selling something that hundreds of thousands of fans pay hundreds of millions of dollars for, grow some thick skin, and accept that they're going to let him know when they're unhappy. The guy doesn't need to wander around with armored escort. Some fans will heckle. Handle it appropriately, keeping in mind that actions have consequences, just like you tell your players when they do something that you end up fining them for.

First of all, "voicing your displeasure" is stupid. Voice it by not showing up. THAT WORKS. Acting like an ******* doesn't.

Having said that, Ireland is wrong to act this way. That could have started an ugly confrontation. He needs to just walk away.

I would think any public figure, players, coaches, executives should have security if they're accessible to fans during halftime.

Come on. He stepped out of his suite for a few minutes during halftime. I'm sure he's not the only executive who's ever done that. And what's security gonna do anyway? Kick someone out before they have a chance to voice their displeasure? The guy wasn't violent.

Football games, sadly, are a very hostile environment. With young kids, it saddens me a bit. I have been to a lot of Eagle, Giant, Jet, and Dolphin games. Granted violence is not out of control, but there is a lot of bad circulating that stadium. When a lot of people step foot on those grounds sunday, it becomes their entire lives.

After the public disapproval and shoddy product, exposing yourself to gameday fans is not the best idea. Sure he is free to do it. Sadly, he is not free from how people are going to treat him if they see him. I'd certainly recommend his wife and kids watch from home.

I am the furthest thing from an Irish supporter, but this is a nothing story. There were some messes of humanity at this game, that would probably take a poke at Marino. Its just a word, no little kid heard it, he was provoked.

Ireland should have a couple of ex Navy Seals following him around, just like the ambassador in Libya, only this time they are allowed to carry live ammunition.

I don't see much of a problem here at all. The guy told Ireland he thinks he's a bad GM. Ireland told the guy he thinks he's an *******. There wasn't a fight. Ireland didn't get the guy kicked out. They just exchanged words.

As kind of a big shot with what I spend on this franchise, I get offered dumb stupid perks. (I can't get simple requests granted, but I digress)

I proudly shook the hand of every single Dolphins coach including Shula (haven't met Philbin yet). I was offered the chance to do the same to Wanny. He was the only coach I declined to meet. I couldn't bring myself to be phoney.

Now, had I been drinking, I might have called him an *******. Point being, the Miami Dolphins are completely clueless if they think that parading Jeff Ireland around the concourses is a good idea.
