http://www.apple.com/ Preorders start at midnight PT time. I have the 4, and I want to get the 5 because my contract with verizon is up, but I don't want to get rid of my unlimited data for 30$ a month, so i am going to wait, maybe switch to sprint, anyone have sprint? How do you like it?
I have Sprint. It is ok but its LTE network is no where near as large as Verizon. I plan on switching to Verizon soon for the Iphone 5.
Verizon will let you keep your unlimited data if you pay the unsubsidized price. I have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited data plan, so I'm just grabbing a 32 GB black model and calling it a night.
Sprint is upgrading their network so its been ****ty recently in some areas (including mine in NY)... Las Vegas isn't on the list that I see for LTE coming soon for Sprint though...
I think I have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan as well, at least that's what I'm paying for currently. I suppose I need to call them to confirm before I actually place the order?
Yeah, you'll want to make sure. And you can order an iPhone from AT&T anyway, so you can kill two birds with one stone.
Yeah, I was just on their site. I sent them an email asking about it. Do you guys already have a traceable order?
I ordered from Apple.com at about 3:45 last night. So yes, I have an order confirmation, but no tracking until it ships out. They'll probably start going out Wednesday with scheduled delivery of Friday.
Myself and Des have been talking about this ALOT of Twitter....cant wait for it....I have this... I get it on the 26th not the 21st.....I couldnt log on at 3am was at a work....crazy how in 4.5 hours the date is already pushed back.....
Phone is already out in California...
Without switching carriers, is there anyway to get a new phone at the non-ridiculous rate? I have to pay like $650 for a iPhone 5, because I got the 4s back in june like 2011.
You would probably have to pay an ETF to terminate your contract, then agree to a new 2 year deal when buying and activating the iPhone 5. It depends on your account. Dial *639# on your phone to get a text message with your upgrade eligibility (AT&T) or go here to do the same via the Apple Store.
Given the amount of subsidies that go into the price, no, it's not overpriced at all. The rate plans, especially for text messages, are overpriced. Thank your carriers for that.
I have an iPhone 4 and from what I can tell, it's not a HUGE advance, just slightly bigger screen, slightly faster and slightly lighter. NOt really impressed unless the advertised LTE is WAY faster for data. That's what I want to see.
I was just curious. I'm torn between giving my son my iPhone 4 or trading it in to AT&T. The trade in value right now is $150. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yea a new cpu that is twice as fast is no huge deal. Longer battery life is no biggie either. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Uh… not just "slightly". The specs given were in comparison to the iPhone 4S, which runs circles around the iPhone 4 both you and I own. Your definition of "slightly" needs adjusting here. LTE is everything advertised and then some. And your standards are way too high if you aren't impressed.
Anyone know why they are making the screen bigger, 3.5" was the perfect size. Will Google be able to stop the release over Apple ripping off the 5 row of icons? I have had that for ages.
To bring the aspect ratio to 16:9, and also because thinning the device out so drastically so often means a bit of vertical growth was probably inevitable. That depends, did they patent it?
So the trade off for having a slimmer 16:9 ratio phone screen was not having the perfect size screen for your thumb to cover the whole thing. Sounds like a good trade. I kid, but I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung was exploring any small window they may exploit. It's pretty sad at this point. Overall this is what I was expecting from Apple, nothing groundbreaking, just a great upgrade to most hardware and a new OS.
In the last year or so Google finally has made some major overhaul to the OS to help battery life. It will never be Iphone but I am amazed at how much better my new EVO is compared to the last. I suspect as with my phone you will see that the screen is always my worst battery hog, I bet even on Iphone the LTE connection will be a blip compared to the 4" display.
Battery issues are almost predominantly caused by hardware. In the case of LTE, the radio chips used are still so new they aren't as power efficient as 3G or the old EDGE chips. WiFi still has a serious power draw issue after all these years. Radio communication will kill your battery faster than even the screen, which shouldn't be as much of a drain as you think (in part due to the general efficiency of IPS.) The A6's 28nm fab will help counterbalance battery life too.
So I decided to trade my iphone 4 in today for $150. I have a hookup at AT&T who is going to hold a new Iphone 5 for me on Friday, so Ill have to only pay $50 out of pocket for the new one with a contract renewal. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I'll say this........there is a lot you can kill Apple for, and putting out this huge media event for a phone that misses on many of the industry standard technology is one of them, but the battery life isn't. It doesn't have the best battery, but the battery will be fine. These phones are computers in your pockets. Would you unplug your computer and expect it to last 3 days unplugged? Just plan on plugging your phone in every night. If you are an insane power user then be near a plug. If you are a light to moderate user it will last you the day. One thing that will kill your battery is LTE. Not only because the LTE chipsets are battery hogs but searching for 4G. If you aren't in a strong 4G area or on the fringe then your battery will suffer as the phone will be constantly searching for the 4G signal and going in and out of 4G and switching to 3G. The more you go in and out of 4G area the more battery will be consumed. This is true of all new 4G smartphones and isn't an issue exclusive to Apple.
I'm debating on the 32 vs 64.. i have about 28g used right now on my old 3GS. I probably only need the 32 though since I have a **** load of pics on my old phone (that I have copied onto my laptop and I'm too lazy to delete). I have about 1300 songs on there. So the lightning to 30 pin adapter is $29. I'll have to get that since my entertainment system has the 30 dock. Then I'll need a case and screen protectors... anyone have a good website for those? I've been using a tinted screen protector (flat coated I guess you would call it) so I can see my phone outside in the sun. I'm going to miss my old 3GS case. That was great and I forget where I bought it from ($30 over 3 years ago). Thing was made out of Kevlar .
