It's very frustrating when you go into a game under the expectation to be blown out, and it happens not because you are not talented enough, outcoached, or anything of that nature, but rather kill yourself in such a spectacular fashion.

They played a competitive game vs. a playoff team for 3 2/3rd quarters, gave up 24 unanswered points on turnovers in their own territory during a 6-minute window right before half-time.

    What the ****, man?

It's hard not to compartmentalize Ryan Tannehill's performance into the batted passes and everything else. I don't know if that's the right or wrong reaction because I don't think I've ever seen it happen so much in one game and wouldn't really believe it could be a serious career concern. I thought he played pretty well otherwise, he had an interception he threw on a questionable pass, but otherwise? Pretty good.

The batted passes are a problem though. It's not a fluke, it's pre-season, and he had what, like 17 in his full year of college? That needs to get fixed for Tannehill to be a viable starter, and I'm honestly not sure what the logistics or feasibility of that short or long-term.

Reggie Bush played pretty well, and it seems like he's continued to be the same player from last year.

I was surprised how fast Jorvorskie Lane was. Pretty good for a guy with linemen foot speed.

The wide receivers were not nearly as bad as advertised. Not great by any means, but the idea that they were a gang of bungling incompetents was overblown I think.

The offensive line was a mixed bag, but ultimately pretty acceptable. Too many penalties, but they did pretty serviceable given the context and competition.

Some really nice efforts defensively. Randy Starks, Paul Soliai, and Koa Misi were all really quite good.

The problems in pre-season with there being huge holes in zone coverage between the safeties and linebackers is pretty troublesome.

Richard Marshall was a mixed bag, and it's going to draw some freak-outs from the Vontae Davis people, but he almost certainly got beat less by Andre Johnson this year than Davis did last year.

I'm kind of expecting Marcus Thigpen to basically be Patrick Cobbs with more foot speed.

How many passes were batted at the LOS today? At least 4.

I stopped counting after the third interception.

Our run d looked great and our pass d looked not too shabby, but not good enough.

Same problems as the past 3 years, can't cover #1 recievers or TE's.

And our Wr's SUCK compared to other teams. Sick of Bess running a route that is 1-2 yards short of a TD or 1st down.

I expect Thigpen and Lane's roles to grow.

To me, and a CFL fan will tell you this, he is a lot like Leon Washington, Lane has a nice burst.

CC9..not good..really like what he offers but he seems to drop to many passes

    CClemons..yikes..

The passes were batted because the offensive linemen allowed the pocket to be collapsed right into Tanny, and he didn't move slightly the way Marino used to do all the time to avoid pressure. I have to think that the slight moves can be taught and that the offensive line may improve.

Well, the thing is it's nothing new with Tannehill. He had loads of passes batted at the line of scrimmage in college, too. The problem is somewhere with him.

I'm still rewatching the plays, but on the second INT it looks like he's hitting the helmet of the OL because the release point is just way, way too low.

But I think we need to realize as well that the vast, vast majority of these tipped balls aren't going to be interceptions, and even the ones that are interceptions aren't always going to blow games wide open.

In other words, the tipped passes issue might be a somewhat of a big deal, but it's probably seeming like a much bigger deal today than it really is.

Sherman has to figure out a way to move his QB around a little more IMO. I think it was obvious to most. Nonetheless we had shots and left points on the field in multiple opportunities.
I was waiting for a Texans scoring flurry and we overcame it and weathered the storm. Left the running game way too quick in the midst of said flurry.
I felt like I was watching Henning calling plays for Henne during that time.
    Sad.

It really depends on how the passes get tipped. The issue with Tannehill (and that goes back to college) is that his tips tend to result in floaters that are easily intercepted. It's not just a coincidence they got picked off, it's got to do with the release point (aka angle) and zip.

Not at all, Henne was given baby steps at first, lots of half field reads and rollouts and told "don't you dare screw up!"

Thill is being force fed the rough stuff about being a NFL Qb..sit in the pocket, make a read, deliver an accurate pass.

I'd like to see more Anthony Armstrong and less Legedu.

I appreciate Disgust's time on this post and his position as the consulate Ireland/status quo defender here, but how anyone could watch that game with any sort if objectivity and cone to the conclusion that we don't have a talent problem or that the WR aren't so bad is beyond me.

Just stunning. I understand patience or wanting to be an optimist but don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining

Thought he had a catch for 3yds or something like that?

Reason why I advocate for him is he at least offers explosive plays, and THill was not throwing well today, his location was off as the game rolled on, AA tried to make a leaping catch over the middle and THill just led him to much.

I'm not really sure where he's going with the WR part, either. Out of 36 pass attempts (and 20 completions), 9 were caught by wideouts. Remove good ol reliable Bess from the equation and we're looking at, I think, a grand total of 1 pass being caught by a flanker before the 4th quarter.

3 total plays in the 3rd qtr will do that Vendi.

    Offense was dreadful, literally.

Even with Bush having over 100 all purpose yds.

Aye, we can debate the reasons, but I'm not sure how you can call WR production anything but dreadful when literally the only play outside of garbage time and Davone Bess (whom we know to be a reliable slot guy) was a 3 yard completion to Armstrong.

How do you think we have a talent problem? Take away those 2 freakishly botched minutes before halftime and we played Houston fairly well considering they're the same strong playoff team they were last year, where as we're a team with a rookie QB & rookie RT [vs a highly pressuring Houston D], and new offensive & defensive scheme. The team needs time to settle in before we go crazy criticizing it.

Once they had a comfortable lead from those 2 minutes, the entire game changed b/c that basically removed our effective running game and gave them more flexibility & unpredictability on offense.

Because it's the simplest way to explain things (i.e., it takes no sophistication whatsoever), and it identifies a scapegoat and a solution that's perceived to be simple: replacing the GM.

That way you can feel miserable while believing the entire situation is really under control and easily solved. Replace the GM and we'll be fine.

Its funny, down here in Houston everybody is complaining about how crappy the Texans played. I have to give it to y'all. I think ghe Dolphins just played 3 and a half quarters of good football. I have to tell y'all, right before half i was about ready to throw the tv out the window. We did not have success running the ball all night and that is our strength. After reading this message board all week i really thought we were going to roll over y'all, but if you take away the end of the first half, this is a close game. Good luck this year fellas.

Before those two freakishly botched minutes we managed to score 3 points (usually good enough to beat exactly no one) and were getting toasted left and right when Kubiak actually bothered to call some pass plays. As soon as Houston got into some kind of rythm, we were done. Aye, maybe things would have been closer if we didn't have that meltdown - although meltdowns are precisely what bad teams end up with - but if you didn't see a vastly superiour Houston team, I'm not sure what to say.

Almost every game is close. Teams with talent actually win sometimes.

You want to take away the turnovers but they were the whole game. Espescially considering the defense let Hou cash in TDs after all the turnovers. We forced none by the way.

Did you see Owen Daniels running wide open in the middle of the field? That ain't just scheme brother. Did you see Andre Johnson beat all comers like a drum? Ain't scheme. Did you see Foster rub to daylight over and over? Did you see JJ Watt acting as one man wrecking crew?

Houston is far more talented than us. Any suggestion to the contrary is simply false or delusional. The fact that we played well for a quarter and a half is meaningless. Most teams play well for awhile in this keague

3 straight int's to end the half did not help either.

Do not buy into Legedu, but otherwise Thill's poor play more or less the Wr's were not eating.

Not to say our Wr corps is great, subtract a qtr of football and the TO's during what is normally prevent D time and they were not going to put numbers anyway.

All teams have talent deficiencies in various areas.

What all teams don't have is a rookie QB. In fact, some teams have tremendous QBs who have played very well in the league for years and years.

Do think CClemons had a bad game and manning up Wilson on Johnson was certainly scheme.

Yeah, I really don't think we played that badly to be honest. As you said, that 6 minute **** show at the end of the 2nd quarter did us in. Other than that, our run defense was phenomenal, special teams was very good, and despite the batted-balls issue, I thought Tannehill did some real good things in his first start.

Reshad Jones looks vastly improved this season. That would be huge as I think our defense will be pretty good this year.

OL was fine, agree about Safeties, however since we are supposedly going to be like the Giants with the front 7 causing pressure the concept is we supposedly don't need high quality resources invested in the defensive backfield.

Te was not the issue in this one either, look at #17 bruh, he did look like a deer in the headlights.

I saw a Dolphins team that was very successful gashing the Texans with the run, and a Dolphins defense that was stopping the Texans' run game, so other than the passes the Texans completed, which at that point had resulted in three points of their own, there was no dramatic display of superiority going on out there IMO.

I agree , but we also have more than a fair share of problem areas and starters , imo. We also have had a long enough chance to not be in such a talent void , imo. You said change the GM and the scapegoat , well if the GM drafted better players and signed better free agents that would affect the won loss record . He isn't the only problem , but to date he hasn't , imo , been the right answer . To me that is clear.

Again, I think you need to compare this team's roster to the rosters of other teams, while factoring in the huge impact of the QB.
