"5. Other possibilities when cuts are made:

Ramses Barden. The New York Giants are deep at receiver and Barden is on the bubble. He caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown in their third preseason game.

Whomever the Baltimore Ravens release. They have four players vying for two receiver positions. That includes Tommy Streeter, the former University of Miami receiver who helped himself by catching a TD last week at the end of the game. The others: Tandon Dos, Deonte Thompson and David Reed.

Diondre Borel or Toni Gurley, depending on what Green Bay does. If Jones can’t be traded for, Green Bay likely will have a decision to make between prospects Borel and Gurley"

Deuce is definately worth a look. Alex Baron is not a very good Olineman. However, Deuce is pretty decent. Saw him play in AZ and he did pretty decent in pre season.
Lets put it this way, he is better then Hicks IMO and about the same as John Jerry

The Olinemen were definitely of interest to me given our RG, RT and temporary LT situations.

Would say no just because I don't want to hear/read Omar going all deuces on Deuce.

Still cannot see, other then he wants big money, why this team has not kicked the tires on Plaxico Burress. Big target in the RED zone.

Think Jabar Gaffney has been cut also.

49ers K Brown may be worth a look at pass rush DE.. though he has the taint of Clemson DEs (Merling) all over him.

Brian Tyms has some intriguing measurables.
"Tyms wowed NFL scouts at his recent Pro Day grabbing their attention with a 4.40 flat forty, 38 inch vertical, 19 reps of 225 on the bench and a blistering 3.93, 20-yard shuttle."

Ben Hannula is intriguing because he played CB, and has now seen time at WR. If he is even good enough to be a #4 at either for us, he'd be worth having.

Seems like he has a little wiggle for YAC too.

Agree I like Ben Hannula he is intriguing and seems to have good hands something we sorely need on the offense. Having played CB he also knows how they are going to react and might be able to get separated some. Also has nice touch on his throws might be good for some surprise plays?

    Lutui as well.

Jabar Gaffney is scraping the bottom of the barrel, but I guess we don't have a choice.

I don't like Barden, or Streeter for opposite reasons. Gurley looks like he has no quicks or ability to run crisp cutting routes.

I like Borel for us a lot and think Philbin would too.

Problem is, what we have now is the stuff that doesn't even scrap off the bottom of the barrel.
In fact, alot of what we have now is underneath the barrel.

That Baltimore situation at WR is definitely worth monitoring at the least. I was never a fan of Streeter but I've heard good things about Deonte Thompson and Tandon Doss, and David Reed has been interesting in the past.

  21. Bpk

    Bpk Premium Member Luxury Box

What type of receivers are Thompson, Doss and Reed in terms of size, speed, quickness and inside/outside role?

I really want a guy who combines 4.4's speed with good release and decent quickness. No less than 6 feet tall, but no more than 6'2" (above which it seems only an elite few can still cut crisply enough to get separation).

Want him to be capable of playing inside or outside.

Getting a pure outside guy who excels at this point is a pipe dream, as he'd only be available if he lacked something... No tall, 4.3 speed guys with hands, quicks and physicality to separate (hand use at LOS and to battle CB once ball is in air) are out there on the wire unless they have major deficiency.

    Like Danario Alexander.

He has a real bad knee, he is one of the guys I've kept an eye on.

To me, I like him, but think we'd be better off with Clay/Egnew and taking our lumps instead of bottom fishing.

Kevin Barnes was waived, I really liked his game coming out, but he had a bad shoulder.

I would look at Jarius Wynn and Donte Stallworth out of that list of players. Neither are going to blow the roof off the Nick Saban Memorial Practice Bubble, but both can be positive additions.

Bryant Johnson is another WR that might deserve a look. He might not be much better than what we already have, but he isn't much worse either.
