    lol Ridiculous.

When has Vontae ever been the defensive MVP of his team?

I think he is a good player, period. I think the way to build a team is keep the good players you already have, and get more good players to go with them, period.

In what world do you live where teams don't need 3 good corners to have a successful defense? Considering the 3rd corner is on the field for at least 60% of the defensive snaps.

You do know we still have coaching staffs, right?

Jesus, we got rid of a nickel player for what might well end up being a top 50 selection. We're not talking about a starting QB here. We're talking about a position at which the vast majority of complainers couldn't even name a starter without consulting nfl.com first.

The fact that Marshall was the defensive MVP on the Cardinals has no relevance to me as far as this argument goes. Thats not to say getting Richard Marshall wont be a positive.

So, we should trade every defensive player who isn't the defensive MVP?

I could live with this, even just the trade for Wallace (if Hartline does not go on IR otherwise we might as well get both). Right now the team is weakened with this move, if Ireland did this to help out the offense (and give our rookie QB a real weapon) then it looks like a MUCH better trade.

If you could just resist that urge to hit "reply" as soon as you see a post, and then go back and read what the person you're about to reply to actually said, you might just end up with a sensible reply instead of beating a straw man to death and then setting the poor wee dude on fire. I'd spell it out, but then again, I already did.

I think the majority of people who share your opinion way undervalue Vontae and what he used to bring to this team. Overweight, attitude or not, he played better than the rest of our secondary. IMO we've also rid ourselves of our next 2 best secondary players from 2011 in Will Allen and Yeremiah Bell.

As I said, the coaching staff obviously disagrees with that. That's not saying you're necessarily wrong, but if you get offered a 2nd round selection for a guy your coaching staff obviously could do without, you don't blink - you either fire the staff or you trade the player.

This trade with the brandon marshall move just officially means to me we arent trying to compete this year or next. Its full on rebuild. I just dont trust Ireland with the picks he is stockpiling. Id rather a new GM make those selections

He's 24, so I don't buy the rebuilding angle either. I'm hoping it's a precursor to more trades. Otherwise I don't get why we wouldn't keep him around, hope he comes around, and if not dump him in the off season.

I keep forgetting that Vontae is such the accomplished HOFer that people on here are now making him out to be.

Tell me how great VD is again without using phrases like "potential to be" or "could develop into."

    I voted yes. And I'm a so-called Ireland basher.

But the reality is Davis wasn't meshing with the new coaching staff.
He wasn't going to be a starter.
He acted like selfish, spoiled brat.
The pick we get back will most likely be a top 40 pick, top 50 for sure.

The only down side I see is that it will probably be Ireland who uses (wastes?) the pick.

It's much more complex than that. "Keep the good players" doesnt really cut it as a team building philosophy in practice. There are constantly situations in the NFL where good players are allowed to walk or are traded.

What in ****s name has Ireland shown so far about understanding team building?

If memory serves correctly, you where the one calling my post out, and then going all straw man on me. I'd never put you on ignore, I enjoy our conversations way too much. In case you want to get back to the argument at hand, let me just kindly refer you to the point where our coaching staff obviously didn't think of Vontae as a bonafide #1 CB (you know, by making him the #3 CB) and you disagreed with that evaluation.

I'm ok with the trade. Philbin told everyone that this is their profession and they need to treat it as such. From what we saw the perception was VD took his profession lightly. If he had the work ethic of Reggie Bush he would possibly be a monster. After the comments on Hard Knocks about being tired, having bladder issues and going on the radio and voicing his opinion against dropping Chad Johnson the perception is that he lazy and not buying into the team philosophy...Philbins philosophy.

What's sad about that? Anyone can use hindsight 4 years after a draft.

I liked Hakeem Nicks coming out, still do. But WR is not a premium position, QB-LT-CB-DE/OLB have the priority. Cam Wake was our WOLB, no need to double down there, not with a guy (Matthews) who hardly saw the field in college. At least we didn't take Alphonso Smith.

It seems to me that the relationship between the team and Davis soured this camp, and listing him where they did on the depth chart may have been attempted as a wake up call but sort of painted the team into this corner. Given where they were at, I think the trade is a good one. If anything, I fault how we got to this point more than the trade itself.

Actually the corner it would've painted the team into is one of not being able to get this much compensation for Vontae, which Ireland seems to have surmounted.

Eh. I think he did okay given what happened but could have probably gotten maybe as much as a pair of successive seconds if the coaching staff hadn't shot his value to hell already.

Like LT or Vonte's brother ... amongst many many others , ideally you don't want that of course , but let's face it NFL players are not the same as say NHL players , and that isn't anything more than what it is .

    I voted yes.

    I liked Davis.

That being said he came to camp out of shape, just like last year.
His contract is close to ending, they chose Smith over Davis to spend the money on.
By getting a second and possibly a sixth we are looking further into the future, and possibly a trade for Wallace or Bowe.
The biggest thing though is trying to change the culture of the Dolphins, like the Packers or Patriots, high quality people and teammates.

First post so don't rip me to bad, life long Dolphin fan from Vegas.

I thought at best we'd get a 3rd with a 4th most likely. Somehow managing to get a 2nd round pick, perhaps a rather high 2nd round pick at that, for a CB that's been nothing more than inconsistent his entire time here, I like the trade a lot.

Getting a 2nd round and a late round pick is bad? Have you not seen him his whole career? He's not very good. Everytime he has been good, he countered it with being terrible. He's been the epitome of inconsistency, and we got more for him than we should've.
