Seeing a lot of posts concerned with the lack of talent on the roster at different spots.(wr, line, cb,etc.) A great coach that knows how to install different systems, schemes, and design creative unique plays can win games and produce stars. In preseason we really don't get a taste of any of that but when the actual season starts we could be in for a real suprise. I think Joe knows how to make chicken salad.
I agree in that I think Coach will be able to make something happen. I don't expect a lot of wins this year, however. It also doesn't hurt to have some talent at those positions. You can draw up the perfect gameplan but if you don't have players that can execute it means nothing.
I like Philbin, but I get the feeling you're just telling yourself whatever to keep your sanity. There isn't much he's going to be able to do with the players Ireland has left him with.
I'm very interested to see how his methods and style get a team playing at a championship level, and how he developes players.. I think he has a good staff so let's find out.. VD and Jerry look like they met some serious challenges from the staff..Loved Turners approach with Jerry...you either respond man, " or it's on you"
I have no idea how you can make any kind of judgement concerning Philbin at this stage of his head coaching career. He may know how to make chicken salad, or possibly even tuna salad, but whether or not he will turn out to be an effective or ineffective HC in the NFL, is something all of us will have to wait and see. I do know this though. If Sparano was still the head coach of the Dolphins right now, and the Dolphins had played as poorly as they have this preseason, no one would be on this forum calling him a, "great coach" . I am certainly willing to give Philbin time to show me if he can be an effective HC. Yet until he gets a lot more talent on this roster to work with, he will be lucky to get five wins in his first year as an NFL HC.
Good then he has his dish ready for the pot luck , what about football talent that coaches can coach and develop to a winning team? I get your point and agree he may/should be able to coach improvement but that doesn't eradicate the chasm of talent on this team , imo.
I was stating that a great coach can make a difference that is sometimes overshadowed by players. I said "I think (IMO)" that he has what it takes. How can you make the statement that you "know" how many games we will win with our roster when you haven't even seen them play a regular season game?
Watching the games I think Philibin and the staff are right on with the offense and defense. It just comes down to the fact tha the players have to make the play. Defense has to make the tackles, Offense has to catch the ball, the line has to give Tannehill time and open holes. It doesn't matter how good the system is when the players don't preform. Our WR's and TE's have been open, they just can't catch worth a damn. Also, I'm soooo over the Wallace, Pruitt, and Moore experiment. They just arn't working out what going on their 3rd year, they really look no better than the rookies that we have. I say keep one of them for their special teams play, I think Pruitt is a good special teams player. Forget the others and keep Cunningham and Hogan and Fuller. I would rather see people who I think could get better with time than these guys who haven't gotten any better with time.
I didn't say how MANY games they would win. I merely stated that they will be LUCKY to win five games with the lack of talent on this roster. That is my opinion and if you don't agree with it, I'm fine with that.
