    On the rumor:

    1. Jim Irsay said it's a vet/starter
    2. Also said it would be for a high pick
    3. John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 in Indy talked about it being Vontae Davis this afternoon
    4. Later, Phil Richards of Indianapolis Star reported his source says it's a corner
    5. Jason La Canfora says it is not Michael Jenkins
    6. Mortensen says he hears skepticism from league sources, think Irsay is yanking chains
    7. Phil Richards denies that speculation, says serious trade is being discussed
    8. Irsay mentioned his checkbook, implying contract may be an issue

    On the plausibility:

    1. We know the Ravens were high on Vontae Davis in 2009
    2. Chuck Pagano was the DB Coach at that time so I'm sure he was high on Vontae
    3. The Eagles were rumored to be high on him, but preferred Maclin over him
    4. Ryan Grigson was part of that Eagles front office
    5. Vontae Davis has been a starter 3 years, is a vet
    6. Yet Miami just replaced him w/ Richard Marshall, who has a long term contract
    7. Vontae Davis fits that defense (hence Baltimore's liking him)
    8. They need a cornerback
    9. Vontae is signed thru 2013
    10. Jeff Ireland has made a preseason trade every year except 2011

Can't believe anyone would be ok with this for anything short of a first round draft pick or stud player. Because Hard Knocks has made him look a little lazy and he along with the entire rest of the defense was out of shape for the first few games last year? How quickly we forget how dominant he can be. He has shutdown corner potential and you don't piss those away for ****ing 4th round picks + a bum. Sorry for my language but my pitchfork will be officially out if this were to happen, which I think has a snowballs chance in hell.

As far as Indy players go,
I could see Philbin & Ireland liking Collie.... plus maybe a 3rd or 4th. ????
Not sure if Kavell Conner & Pat Angerer are a good 3-4 fit for them, so that could be an option at LB (along with a high draft pick).

Perhaps we're getting Samsom Satele back? :woot:

It's Jeff Ireland, so we'll trade a former 1st rounder with great upside for two conditional thirds

Losing Vontae would only weaken our team further at a position we're not strong at to begin with. I wouldn't want to do it, and it would take an offer of a first round pick to make me even think about it.

He'll underachieve in a 4-3... I'm with you; no way to Hughes unless we get a high pick with it.

Develop the corner, don't trade, this is a 24 year old explosive player, develop him.

    Just spitballing here,
Perhaps next year's draft focus will be on finding an elite pass rusher and a top receiver, so having an extra 1st or high 2nd rounder could ensure us addressing both positions which might be more beneficial than keeping Davis, especially considering Davis is a FA in 2 years and there's no guarantee we'll be able to keep him.

Right now, I'm looking at developing Tannehill and getting him a WR weapon as our number 1 priority.
If that means trading Davis for an extra high pick (which also provides us greater 2013 draft flexibility), then I'd do it.

Seriously though... if we trade Vontae Davis then I really hope we extend Sean Smith for another 3-4 years right away.

    Suspects? Based on what?

I love the new media model. Toss it up there and see if it sticks.

I didn't watch the Ravens game but Williams had a tackle so it must be Davis. Nolan Carroll must be kicking *** behind the scenes.

Hypothetically, would anyone be upset if a draft pick we received for Vontae became a Jordy Nelson caliber impact WR?

We should extend both of them, because they're both very good corners when they're heads are right.

True, but hypothetically we'd be getting a quality starting receiver for what's currently our nickel corner. Personally, I'd give that edge to the WR.

Now that we have a franchise QB [hopefully], I'd prioritize a WR for him over the #3 corner on defense.

Vontae's not the nickel. When they go to the nickel, Marshall moves inside. Be that as it may, I understand your point. However, VD is a first round pick with a lot of skills still to be developed, so I don't think it's worth trading him unless it's truly an offer we can't refuse.

He's pretty ****ing far from untouchable, though.

Austin Collie caught another concussion, Colts were thin at Wr already and have their own Qb to develop.

They really believe in R Marshall, it would be a foolish move imo, but wth, we are the Dolphins!

I don't like the idea of weakening one part of our team to strengthen another unless the balance is much greater on the strengthening side.

I hope he doesnt get traded. All he lacks is maturity, how long did it take vernon to reach that mature level? I say we keep vontae unless it is for a first round pick or a 2nd+ A quality starter like one of their top safeties

I would. Nelson is a nice WR, but he has no shot at becoming one of the best at his position. Vontae does...

Colts are going to trade for Mike Wallace... makes too much sense... former Steelers OC. They need deep speed at WR to open up the offense for Luck. Its not Vontae because Irsay said he has to pay the new guy... Vontae doesn't necessarily need a new contract as he's signed for another two years. Period... end of statement..:shifty:

When you put it that way, sure. But that logic assumes that Vontae's value is that of an average nickel CB. And it isn't even close...

Well, if we have a future franchise QB in Tannehill, then I would hope the balance shifts to the offensive side, IMO.

If he can't beat out Marshall, then he's unfortunately our #3 corner, so in that regard I'd use Vontae to give Tannehill a top receiving target; however, if we didn't have Tanny, I wouldn't be saying this.

Vontae would have to be for a top talent or high draft pick rather than a slew of bleh like you used to be able to get away with in Madden. lol

No, I'm on board with wanting to upgrade Tannehill's targets, and being willing to sacrifice defense to do that. Supporting Tannehill is priority #1 above all else. But you still need proper value back in the trade...

    Makes sense.
I'd do that for Luck in a heartbeat if I were Indy. They prioritized weapons for Manning, and it worked out great, so why not duplicate it with Luck?

That would make their 2 TE formations deadly with Wayne, Wallace, Fleener, and Allen.
