There hasn't been a change to PUP, as you say. The Dolphins would've needed to place Hartline on PUP prior to the start of camp in order to get him on there for the first 6 weeks of the season. They didn't do that and they're stuck with the consequences.

The half-IR thing hasn't been approved by the NFLPA yet but it seems like the entire football world assumes it's a foregone conclusion, along with the extended trade deadline. If it gets approval then Hartline would be eligible for the new half-IR list which would be essentially the same thing as PUP.

a while back someone listed the numbers of the DBs that Hogan was beating and it was not just those bottom tier guys. The list included Jones, Clemons, Wilson, and it seems one of the top 3 corners but I don't recall which one.

I voted for 5 of those 6. Basically though I'd be content with any 6 just as long as it contains Bess, Pruitt and Hogan.

I have an easier time playing darts.

    Bess
    Naanee
    Gates
    Pruitt
    Wallace
    Matthews

Hogan, Fuller, Cunningham to PS. If Naanee and/or Wallace have a poor outing this week, I'd insert Hogan and/or Fuller.
At this point with Hartline not having any time spent developing rapport and chemistry with Tannehill, I'd just as soon put him on IR.

I have Chris Hogan being thrown at 7 times with 4 catches for 34 yards. He's been on the field for 31 pass plays, 22 of them from the slot. Of the three missed connections, one was probably more of a poor throw although I did criticize the route a little bit, another was a failure to adjust his route and another was a drop/DPI.

Before anyone asks, no I don't have those figures on other players.

I think Hogan needs to step it up to make the squad. He's clearly being looked for by the QBs but they're all very short routes and he needs to hit on some of the longer ones. The QBs need to throw him some of the longer ones too, of course. Just so happens the three missed connections were all potentially big gains. An on target pass on that out pattern against the Bucs and he can turn it up field for a good gain. An on target pass on that seam against the Bucs would have been a good sized gain. If he'd managed to fight through the contact on that sideline pass and haul in the ball that would've been a good sized play. Otherwise he had two catches on little routes over the middle near the goal line, a catch on 3rd & 5 toward the sidelines where he got beyond the sticks and converted, and that one catch on 2nd & 5 that should have gone for a minimal gain but that he broke the tackle and busted out for like 16-17 yards.

Omar swears Hogan is a product of Hard Knocks. Says guys like Samuda, Shelby, and Thigpen have done more. I wouldn't doubt that really because I have liked what I have seen from them. He says Naanee has done better than Hogan, and Philbin has indicated as much. And his position coach keeps starting him. Got to be some evidence of performance there. I think Hogan has the potential to be very good. You could try to get him to the practice squad, but a team like the Jets will wind up grabbing him.

I'd hate to lose out on both those guys just to keep a guy like Naanee who'll probably never be more than a run of the mill receiver. Gates and Fuller may not be either, but we don't know that yet, IMO.

He seems more versatile to me, could play slot or boundary equally well. He has better hands, better triangle numbers, better rac ability, IMO. I think he is definitely better on STs than Fuller and slightly better than Wallace.

This may be out of left field, but the Bengals' Ryan Whalen probably won't make their 53 (they have six receivers above him). Just a name to keep in mind.

Seriously though, what's up with Naanee? I really don't get it. Is he practicing well or what? He's made no impression on me that would justify a roster spot, though I still voted for him because it's become apparent the coaching staff likes him.

His speed is Hartline-esque... except he almost certainly doesn;t have Hartlines short area change of direction quicks.

    What's his best trait, Paul?

I don't envy the person having to pick the 6. I'd like to have more just because we don't have much out wide.

My guess is Bess, Hartline, Naanee make the roster. 4th spot is a toss up with Wallace, and Pruitt. 5th spot is between Hogan and Moore. The 6th spot is Mathews, Cunningham, or Gates. My guess is they DO NOT want to give up on Gates and Mathews and probably want Cunningham on the PS.

Poking around SI's draft stuff to see what lower-round guys look good and are still available as UDFAs or potential cuts from other teams.

Some guys it'd be interesting to look at if they are cut, or if we trade Matt Moore for one. (The notes are SI Draft Tracker's)

    Chris Givens (Rams 4th Rounder)
    6' 1.5" 195lbs 4.6-40 Wake Forest

Big play guy. Gets in the endzone. Not a TRUE deep threat. #2/#3 WR talent. Enough to start on this team.

    Good return man.

    Marvin Jones (Bengals 5th Rounder)
    6'2" 200lbs 4.47-40 California

Dependable, good release, good route runner, good timing, sturdy.

More quick than fast, not a true downfield threat. I think he'd pair well with Hartline though. Ready to contribute, by all accounts, as a rookie.

    Tommy Streeter (Ravens 6th rounder)
    6' 5" 219 lbs 4.37 - 40 (The U)

Good route runner for his size, can get downfield.

No quicks. NOt quick off LOS. Inconsistent routes at times. Longer term project, could become a #2 WR. Probably equivalent to just keeping Wallace at this point.

    Marvin McNutt (Eagles 6th)
    6' 2.5" 215 lbs 4.48 - 40 Iowa (Philbin connection)

Possession receiver. Catches well in a crowd. Great YAC. Strong.

Slow off the line, no second gear. Poor routes.

    Eric Page (Undrafted, Unsigned)
    5' 9" (now you see why?) 180lbs 4.51 - 40 Toledo

Great returner with good hands, natural balance, pass catching skill. PLays bigger than his size. Goes over the middle for the catch. Deceptively fast, uses blocks very well. Not a true burner.

    Junior Hemingway (KC 7th)
    6' 1" 225lbs 4.49 - 40

Does the little things well. Comes back to ball out of breaks, protects ball from defenders, uses hands to get separation, makes catches in tough traffic, looks ball into his hands, catches the ball away from his body, strong run after the catch, great downfield blocker.

No top end speed. Average route runner. Could be our #4 and a safety blanket for Tannehill.

Dale Moss (UDFA to Green Bay)
    6' 3.5" 200lbs 4.42 - 40 South Dakota State

Huge upside. Good body control. Sells routes, uses hands well to separate, good timing, reliable hands, very athletic, holds onto ball when hit, good blocker

Slow off the LOS, some burst yet not many downfield plays.

Since we already have Hogan, who is already behind Bess at slot, I don;t see him helping.

I don;t think they pick up any slot-type guys. We need an outside receiver, pure and simple.

slot has Bess, Pruitt and Hogan, with Cunningham able to work there too and even Thigpen.

I was watching the Rams a few days ago, and I recall them saying Givens might be the fastest player on their team and is playing well.

Greg Salas is on the bubble though.
He might be a good fit coming from Hawaii and being a smart, savy route runner.
He's a tough kid, has good short area quickness (1.56 10 yard split), has a great pair of cone/shuttle times (4.10 & 6.65), and offers some redzone potential (37' vertical, 10"00 broad jump). Reliable pass catcher who can keep the chains moving.

The physical TD Matthews had vs Carolina reminds me of the type of player Salas is TBH.
IMO I'd compare him to a smaller, slightly less athletic Eric Decker (6'1, 210 vs 6'3, 215) which drops him from being a #1 caliber receiver to a potentially solid #3 or 4 if he's back to 100% after suffering a broken league in week 9. He averaged 4 catches/game in 6 games as a rookie last year.

IDK, this is a guy I might go after.
