IMO, that's really not a great excuse. The players you have on your roster should be able to fill in adequately, especially when there's no game-planning going on. They could have had the entire 2nd team defense on the field in the first half and shouldn't have given up almost 300 yards of offense.
Why Javorskie Lane is on the field for a team that passes the ball 50 some odd times a game and runs it 15 times I'll never know.
Yeah, I wanted Parcells 4 years ago. But I only need to be kicked in the nuts once or twice before I change my mind.
The easy answer is that they arent concerned with winning the game. You don't have much tape on what Lane can do. You want to see how much help Martin needs at this point. You want to see how long you can leave your CBs on an island. There are a lot of things that you cant learn about your team in practice.
Sure, but at what point do you learn how to integrate Clay into your offense and determine whether that can be accomplished effectively?
I disagree tannehill isnt ready. I dont even know where that comes from to be honest. I am not saying that I am right you are wrong, it is more 'wow, what is he seeing that I am not, cause I thought Tanne looked poise in adverse situations'. I think 3rd and long is a good indicator mentally where teh qbs head is at in teh game, and tannehill was right there, he made some clutch throws on 3rd and long, that pass to Marlon Moore was a strike that was in his hands and a perfect pass. Wr is a real problem for us. We NEED Hartline to return period, end of story. Bess is what he is, but he needs someone outside that opens up the middle. Put Nannee on the practice squad since thats the only place he shows up to play. Wallace I like but he doesnt seem to run great routes or get much separation. Would like to see Marlon Moore get more run, he played well. But in the end I thought Tannehill played well in teh circumstance. Unless you are worried about him getting battered. Or think some players dogged it to make Moore look better then I can maybe see your point. reggie played like Bush league yesterday but thats all I will say about that. The defense was so bad, I am not sure Carolina didnt call to see if they could get a real defense to play against so they could get an actual test but found out it wasnt allowed so they pulled their starters out of futility.
So far I am not impressed by any members of the coaching staff. Perhaps there was a reason many of these coaches, including Philbin, had never held coaching positions at the same level in the NFL which they do now. As bad as everyone thought the coaching staff was in 2011, right now this one appears to be worse. Of course having to deal with a team with severely limited talent certainly doesn't help these coaches.
Ideally before the season starts. But everything Ive seen so far has indicated they're not there yet.
Also I think its worth noting that there was a difference between what they were doing on 1st/2nd down and 3rd down. At least thats what I noticed. I havent watched the game again yet.
Not true. Both the Harbaugh brothers led their teams to the playoffs in their first year as NFL head coaches. I realize that most fans are so happy to see Sparano gone that they are willing to give Philbin and the rest of the coaching staff, the benefit of the doubt, at this time. I certainly hope the team starts playing better and I realize it is still preseason. I am just basing my negative comments on what I have observed so far, and so far this does not look like a well coached football team.
anyway, the presence of so many coaches at their first experience at the position (Philbin as HC, Coyle as DC, Turner as NFL coach, Campbel on Tight Ends, Taylor as NFL QB coach) could be something to keep in mind: it is not impossible that they will improve during the season, growing along the players (or maybe I am just extremely optimistic )
Campbell is 2nd year as TE coach. He was one of the few coaches that Philbin retained. Other first time NFL coaches are the DB coach and WR and Asst WR coaches. By my count we have first time NFL coaches at Asst QBs, OL, DB, WR, and Asst WR.
my bad about Campbell (on the Dolphins site they wrote about offense assistent coach and I thought he had some generic role, but considering his carrer as TE I should have guessed! )
i dont want tannehill getting battered david carr style, that is the only reason why i dont want him to start. i think he looked pretty damn good when he had the chance to go through his progressions and was able to step up and throw. nevermind all the dropped passes. the batted passes i would put one on tannehill IMO. hell one was when martin was beaten so bad he was pushed into tannehill and his arm was hit when he released. vontae davis i thought did pretty well same with sean smith, both were called on bull**** penalties. safety play is still crap we need to get some pass rush somewhere i understand wake didnt play but he cannot be the sole source of pressure, i thought shelby looked damn good. chris hogan impressed as well. les brown, egnew were disappearing acts again
It is likely to be a tough year just like the "experts" are saying it will be. I have tempered my expectations considerably, and they weren't high to begin with.
