{tap tap tap} Nope, gauge is fine. The math emo was speaking of (or should I say poking a jab at) pertains to the discussion about starting the regular season, not a preseason game.
I just listened to the Stockton interview on 790 and he said he didn't have any 1st-hand knowledge about Tannehill starting. It was a "feeling" he had. http://www.790theticket.com/mornings.aspx Darlington is confirming it though. Jeff Darlington @JeffDarlington Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will indeed start tonight, team source says. Philbin would like to have regular-season starter after this game.
This is not a bad idea from Philbin, he saw how Matt Moore performed vs. the defensive starters of the other team, now it's time to see if Tannehill's promising performance last week translates vs. Carolina's defensive starters. Starting versus scrubs and guys destined to get cut or end up in the practice squad can be misleading. This way Philbin has a better grasp of where Tannehill actually is, and whether he should be the opening day starter or needs some more time to mature into a starting QB in the NFL.
The offense isn't new to him...He knew well over half of it before he even put on a practice jersey.... He will start again in the 3rd preseason game. If success continues he will probably start week 1 against a pretty good defense. Moore sits at no.2 and Garrard's job is in grave danger.
If he has a good night tonight [fingers crossed] hopefully it will be because the team around him is doing their part to help him have a good night. If that's the case he'll start week 3, to which I hope culminates in another solid team performance and great night by Tanny..... and then a repeat performance in week 4.
The offense isn't new to him, but it's new to everyone around him... with WRs that have either never started a game or are very inexperienced, and a rookie on the OL that is playing a new position. It's not just about Tannehill. It's about everyone else as well...
Good point...This is where Tannehill needs to use his knowledge of the offense to also help the people around him who do not know it as well as he does....Show his leadership and command abilities.
Exactly. IMO It's damn hard to be a leader of grown men at his age in his profession. The fact that he has something to bring to the table and can actually help them goes a long way towards his growth as a leader and the respect the team has for him. Let the team grown with and around him on the field. Unless he totally craps the bed.
As long as he can hold that poise that hes shown so far I think he will be fine...he already audibles at the line and directs receivers before the play.
exactly. Drop him enough times and he'll never be able to put Panthers crap on by himself again..... or any clothes for that matter.
The thing about Beck was he didn't play in the first half of any of the first 3 preseason games... then the only game he did play the first half was in the 4th preseason game and he threw 2 picks, no INTs...
I've been arround since the FH days, just had some personal stuff going on the last couple of years so I was scarce. It's good to be back.
Dude, it was so pathetic that even the announcer yelled out "OH NO!!!" I've never seen an announcer (unbiased) scream, Oh NO on a touchdown!! Pretty much sums up our decade, save for 2008.. I don't know how you youngsters have stuck around all this time.
