I don't believe he is eligible to start the year on the PUP since he practiced the first day of TC... I think we're keeping six and right now I don't know who those six are going to be, any of em. Except DB

Riveting hour of television but guess I, like everyone else here, is a little bias. Tough watching Philbin talk about his son and he did a pretty great job with it, also tough watching Chad's meeting with Philbin. On the flip side Ryan's singing, the "Call Me Maybe" video and comments after, and Samuda's haircut added some funny moments. Jake's wife and Lauren both looked great, still have to give Les Brown's girl Jamie #1 though.

I'm sure if Sparano would have been on Hard Knocks he would have came across well, but seeing Philbin just makes him more likable and makes you want to root that much harder for him to succeed. After getting to see the team like this, I'm going be spoiled and miss it next season. With the NFL continuing to become popular, wouldn't be surprised to see teams in the coming years hire some crews and do a Hard Knocks-lite type show. Could release it on their website or via Youtube weekly, grab some sponsors, and give the fanbase something to watch. With in-house camera crews the more closed teams could have more control and say on the final edits. Quality wouldn't be as good as Hard Knocks but would bring the fans closer to the team. Assuming teams have the permission to do something like this.

It boggles my mind that you're willing to make such a statement when you've only seen one preseason game this year when he probably had 20 snaps total.

I think a lot gets made about Philbin's eyes and facial expressions and I don't agree with most of it. He never looks lost to me at all. He looks like he's thinking instead of just reacting. Even when he's talking to Chad, he says (paraphrasing) he gives every decision or situation careful thought. He's talked briefly about his son a few times and this was the first time he broke and as soon as it started he moved off camera. I think he is very consciously and deliberately remaining calm at all times. I like that actually. There's plenty of asst coaches that are there to lose their **** and be the hard ***, but there's something to be said for the leader to be a calm thinker.

As a guy that had criticisms for how Joe Philbin handled certain situations in Hard Knocks Ep. 1...either I'm getting used to him or he did better this time around because I didn't have an issue with anything.

He had to deal with the most difficult situation imaginable, just about. He had to sit down with Chad Johnson and tell him he's cut, and essentially be a total hard @ss while Chad pleaded with him the best he could to stay on the team. You know how strong you have to be to do something like that? I mean that was like a couple breaking up because one of them is in love and the other isn't. That's what that was. Difficult situations like that can produce awkward nervous reactions and when Philbin kept tapping on the arms of his chair, that's what that was...which to me made it all that much more real.

That was hard...but his mind was clearly made up.

Oh and more thing on Philbin & the team:

He fired Chad in such a way, that Chad thanked him and shook his hand. I would say that means coach handled the firing exactly correct.

Philbin did better with Chad that time. He just got hung up at the end trying to end it. At the end there, my wife (yes, I make her watch the show. If I have to be subjected to the Kardashians, she's watching my reality TV) calls out "awkward!". Just stand up and say thank you, shake his hand, and end it. lol

It's all good. He looked Chad in the eyes and told him "listen, this isn't working. Thank you for coming". No hesitation or question in his speech. This is one of his first cuts ever. He should get more comfortable wrapping them up as more cuts roll along here...

The most significant developments for me were:

    1. Gave us a real solid idea why Roberto Wallace was buried on the depth chart prior to the Bucs game

I thought both Philbin and Ireland's reaction to Garrard going down were appropriate and telling... especially Ireland. Here he is, he just drafted Tannehill... the obvious long term answer to the quarterback posiiton, hopefully... and he's upset that the short term, win now solution in Garrard is going to be out several weeks.

Am I the only one not worried about Garrard being able to come back?

I mean, the offense was completely installed. He's smart and savvy enough to study it while rehabbing. He's a vet, so knocking off 4 weeks of cobwebs shouldn't be too hard. I mean as long as he's healthy, I don't see it as a huge insurmountable road block.

Very good show. I thought it was a bit over-hyped coming in, but good nonetheless.

Started and ended very emotionally. Philbin talking abut the death of his son and fighting back tears had me doing the same. And I could tell Chad Johnson wanted to cry as well. That was tough to watch but both guys handled it very well.

I like the focus on Ryan Tannehill. This guy is a top 10 draft pick at the most important position and he should be a main storyline. Man, he looks good out there too. Better and better everyday. The interaction with Ryan, Lauren and the kid in the wheelchair was a nice moment. Lauren seems to be a real sweetheart. Tannehill singing in front of the room was hysterical.

I didn't know much about Chris Hogan before this episode. That's why you gotta love this show. That kid looks smooth running routes and catching the football. He makes this team easily if he keeps it up.

Jim Turner is hilarious. Really enjoyed those parts.

Sucks to see David Garrard hurt again. Seems like a good guy and even though he was laughing when he said "Must be Father Time" you could tell he was really upset.

With that said, I agree with Fin D. I'm perfectly happy with Tannehill and Moore going into the season.

I'm standing by my prediction that Sean Smith will be our breakout player on defense this year.

I can't express how much I love Joe Philbin. The guy or so calm, yet in complete control. Knows the right time to make some jokes and deal with the tougher situations. Really smart.

And finally, for those of you who don't find Lauren Tannehill that attractive, I'd love to see what kind of girls you're pulling in.

They call him 7-11 because he's always open.

He has basically caught everyone's attention from Bush & the QBs to the coaches to the HBO crew in practices because he is what Chad always swore he was...open. Even after the game, Moore and tanny were telling Devlin how bad he missed Hogan who was like 25 yards open.

ohai, means oh hi I didn't know you were there...sort of.

Not only was cutting Chad Johnson a bad move, it wasnt fair. The guys never been in trouble before. I noticed how before he met with Chad, Philbin was on the phone talking to someone and he brought up Chads press conference again and how he was cussing. Who cares how he talks, everyone in the room was adults. It reminds me of Cam and how he didnt like bad language. Its the Fu$#&@g NFL. The Dolphins have no top notch receivers. CJ was the closest thing to that, that they had. I hope all you holier than thou fans who are happy to see CJ gone are also happy when we suck again this year. Not totally suck, but just suck enough to miss the playoffs and get a high teens draft pick in the first round again. Our wide receiver corps totally suck. I hope you all enjoy us scoring 13 points a game and never throwing the ball more than 20 yards down the field

Not much logic? How's this for logic? In the past 5 months, the front office has cut the two best receivers on the team. Now we have the worst bunch of receivers in the league. By far. I hope you like field goals.

I'll give you Marshall. Even though I understand where the team was coming from, I didn't like the trade.

Chad Johnson doesn't fit the plans of the team. I personally like him, but he is a distraction. And his play doesn't warrant his distractions anymore.
