Which Dolphins Do You Think Have A Chance Of A Pro-Bowl Season?

A lot of talk about if players on this team are really good enough at WR, at OL, in the secondary and so on.

So, who can you see making the Pro Bowl this year. Any surprises?

I'm going to say Charles Clay has a chance to surprise.
    As do Naanee and Wallace.

Wake, of course. And Bush, if he gets to run, carry and return... he could be top three in the NFL in all-purpose yards.

Jake Long, Wake and maybe Fields.

    That is it.

Agree on some, not on all.

Pouncey's advantage is name-recognition from his brother.

    No to Davis.

I don't think Odrick is the gaudy-stats type. He's more of a Kendall Langford with a bit more quickness. (KL made a nice play for the Rams last game, btw)

    Dansby
    Wake
Pouncey (Depending on injuries to other C's)

This is offbeat, but Marcus Thigpen or whomever or returner is.

Dansby, I don't see it. I was disappointed by his showing in that pre-season game. thought he's stand out and he didn't.

KR/PR is very interesting because Omar pointed out today that the Phins are spending more time on special teams in practice than any team he's watched before. More focus on STs could finally equal much better STs performance.

Suspect we see lots of KR and PR's this yr, either the D will be great, or we will see long Td plays often with young S's, either way whomever the returner is will see lots of opportunites which means more yds and potential Td's.

As for Dansby, what I'm thinking is our DT's are good enough to keep blockers off of him allowing him to make more plays

I thought the same about our DT's setting Dansby up for a Zach Thomas-like season. But then I rewatched the first preseason game a third time and was very troubled by how poorly Starks played. He was average at best. Got turned by his man a bunch of times and it cost us most times. Maybe that's why we are experimenting with 3-4 looks again in practice.

Don't read to much into that Bpk, camp legs, could have been trying new techniques etc.

    We know what Starks is.

Not really. He had ONE year where he looked potentially elite. One. And since then we've been assumi that's 'who he is'.

Well, I'm starting to see that he has spent more time NOT dominant than dominant and wondering if this is who he really is, and '08 was an aberration above the norm.

If Davis plays the entire season the way he did the last 8 games last year, then there is a good chance he can do it. I think it really all comes down to getting him focused sooner rather than later.

I don't expect it to be sooner. Want to be wrong. lol.

Apropos of nothing... does anyone know how Nolan Carroll has been looking? He will be seeing the field this year. Even more so if Smith's groin/hams/whatever act up.

Starks, Long, Soliai, Wake, Fields, and Carpenter (assuming his 1st game woes do not continue) are the players with the best chances IMO.

Starks has fallen off quite a bit from his 08 form, so I don't see that.

    Agree on the others.

That's basically what my list would look like, but I'd replace Davis with Sean Smith. I know he was beat on friday, but I think he could have a big year.

I'm still under the impression Starks is a better 3-4 End then 4-3 DT. He played that in Tennessee but only flashed. Then immediately was very good when placed in the 3-4 as an end. We will see...

Cameron Wake ALWAYS has a legit chance. As does Jake Long.

Charles Clay won't make it because no matter what the ball will be distributed between he and Anthony Fasano, and when you're in conference with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, not to mention Antonio Gates, Dustin Keller, Owen Daniels and Heath Miller, to go along with upstarts like Greg Olsen and Jared Cook...just too tough to crack into the Pro Bowl.

Randy Starks has an outside chance although tough competition abounds with Geno Atkins, Haloti Ngata, Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams, Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour.

With Nick Mangold, Chris Myers and Maurkice Pouncey all in the AFC...it's going to be difficult for Mike Pouncey to get in.

Believe it or not both of our Guards may actually have a shot. I know that sounds crazy, but in this system it's true, and the AFC competition isn't fierce.

Karlos Dansby has a shot this year but he's got this weird curse of always being the runner up.

Are we counting our kick and punt guys?

Actually that first year in Miami, Mike Nolan had him essentially playing what he had already been playing in Tennessee...which is DT in a four man front. He hardly ever (if ever) played DE in 2008.

My opinion is that no matter how well individual players play, we're going to struggle to get notoriety with almost anyone until we start winning. A winning team, obviously, makes even "just above average" players stand out. We've seen time and time again: a player on a winning team with lesser stats beating out a guy who looked all world. That being said, as of now, we don't have many all world players on our team. Not yet. I'll agree with several people here: Jake Long, Cam Wake, and possibly Bush. Fields is a wild card as well.

I honestly don't care if any of our players make the pro bowl. I just want to see them grow as a team. I want to see progress. Pro Bowls will come after that.

Not to be too anal but Paul Pasqualoni's defense. I don't know if I agree he hardly ever played DE, but he went from playing both 1- and 3-technique in Tennessee to almost completely a 3-technique in Miami. When Nolan came they shifted to more of a 2-gap base defense, and if anything that's been something that would alter or limit Starks.

I'm not sure how it's listed, I think it seems to go by what the player is listed at on the roster.

If Charles Clay is listed at fullback, I'd pretty much call him a lock.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought he was almost exclusive to the 1 technique in Tennessee. Either way, my point stands about him being in the 3 technique his first year. I think that fit him best personally.

Not saying he won't be successful, or he will have a down year. But, I think it bears watching.

i don't really have much interest about the pro bowl. if they selected pro bowls spots with zero fan voting, and only players/coaches/scouts/and good analysts, it might be a little less of a popularity contest, but it'd still be one. For instance, you know Revis will make it, barring him losing a leg in the first game or something. In that same regard Jake will likely make the pro bowl, even if he isn't very effective, just on name recognition alone.

all that said, i'm not trying to down this thread or anything, it's a valid conversation. With that, my guesses would be Cam Wake, Jake Long, Reggie Bush (maybe), and thats about it. Fields could sneak in there but who knows.

Long and Wake. No surprises. I think Pouncey has the talent, but I don't think he'll surpass the other Pro-Bowl centers in the AFC in the minds of the voters. Likewise for Reggie Bush and the other AFC running backs.
