When Philbin said I'm going to speak with Chad about it, I figured he'd call him into his office and have a one on one sitdown. I was surprised to see it take place on the practice field. Was it right or wrong? Time will tell.

I like that the team/organization has just enough personality & charm that we can afford to wait a week to introduce coach Turner and let him steal the show.

I felt the same during it Nas, a little, but I'm trying to find the right context for which to put any coach having that conversation with that player, tough one, but it seemed like his intention was to not to make Chad feel strangled on purpose, like a fine balance, maybe to try in get the best of both worlds out of the payer..keep your swagger, have your fun, perform on the field, and keep it classy san Diego.

I think thats all that was needed. You see, if Chad pushes the envelope...it won't be for vulgarity.

Steinbach is probably going to be a savey veteran. I bet he is better than his first impression. He is on the second team now. Wouldn't put too much into his first appearance and the whole cigarette thing. The real villian in this episode, the real stinker is Dawn Aponte. I wonder if she will continue to be involved in serious negotiations because she can't be serious about what she told Tannehill's agent.

Just me or did Philbin not look at Moore much, if at all, during that whole sequence in the qb room? Moore was working that gum... and then symbolically threw it at the trash can by the door just after Philbin had left.

Sidenote... heard Polian today talking about how Garrard looked at practice. He said he was back healthy and after the back surgery last year, it's good to see he has his arm strength, his arm angle / positioning, back to where it was prior to the surgery. Polian said he has first hand knowledge of how these back surgeries can be and what the effects potentially are.

The angle he took when you thought he was looking at the ground was him following the practice.

Yea thats what I thought as well. I love how he went about it. Loved how he said, look you saying it in practice is different. Drop one f bomb during a presser in a certain time is one thing and can be acceptable. But that's just excessive for no reason.

Called that a month ago, VD being in crappy shape though...not so good.

Cat should man up, he has the talent, but the fountain of motivation is apparently running dry for him.

I am not questioning the move of Marshall to the starters or have no illusions about Les Brown making the 53.

Judging solely by the show I'd say Brown is practice squad material at best. I don't think there is enough to really say much about Vontae Davis without jumping to conclusions at this point in time. As an editor, I know it'd be very easy to "trick" the audience into something with the amount of footage they shoot. Really they showed Davis out of breathe, get beat by Matthews, get yelled at for taking a piss during practice, and a couple soundbytes from coaches. I can understand the concerns but I just don't think there is enough to make a concrete opinion about it YET. I think the depth chart was a motivation tactic personally but I wouldn't be up in arms by any means of they did wind up name Marshall the starter over Davis... I know Marshall can play.

Which Qb's wives did you like best? Matt Moore seems to have a cute wife. I did not know anything about Garrard's wife. We already knew Tannehill's wife.
All 3 have a nice cuteness to them.

I always thought this was such a non issue it surprised me that anyone would bring it up.

My goodness, 8-9 months to heal is plenty of time even for my Grandma let alone a pro athlete.

He was following practice but after watching it a second time I believe he did glance at the ground several times as well. He also seemed to be really careful with how he was going word, "you need to be ready to deal with that." A nitpick for sure and doesn't mean anything in my opinion, but it's ok for Philbin to not be 100% perfect with everything he does. I do like how he told Chad to communicate with each other and that it wasn't a dictatorship.

He may not make the team but with his girlfriend/wife he's a winner in life.

Entertaining show, lots of things that made me laugh and really looking forward to the next episode.

I loved Philbins' opening speech about being a professional. He may not the coolest coach but he seems 100% real, I think the players will respect that. He's in between Cam Cameron and Sparano.

Dunno if it's been mentioned but the kid that was cut signed with the Patsies a little while ago.

Hate the Patriots but after seeing him roasted at the beginning, would love to see him get a legit shot.

Watch him become All-Pro and we cut him for Steinbach. I'm no guru so I can't judge lineman for crap. Hopefully Steinbach looked good.

One thing to keep in mind is that this was likely the first time Philbin had to amonish Chad, and that few if any of the coaches have had much contact with him on a day to day basis - in terms of actually coaching him, not just being part of the staff as Coyle was in Cincinnati. No matter what type of job you have, the first time you are corrected, and especially about how one conducts themselves will be awkward. It will be awkward as you are dealing with someone's personality, not their performance on the field, in meetings etc. At least there wasn't a long silence in there, that's when it gets truly awkward.

The 'you need to be ready to deal with that' is just a very nice way to say 'it's my way, or the highway'. Just a qualifier to Chad, that when the coach says something, you had better act upon it, now tomorrow, not in a few days, but the message I got was that whatever it was, as a player you'd better asimilate this right now.

But, the thing about it was that Philbin didn't do it via an over the top message, he spoke to Chad like an adult, lowered his voice a little so not everyone could hear their conversation. He gave Chad some respect by not doing in front of everyone, as many coaches do in general meetings etc. The issue would be handled out of the lime light if it were not for Hard Knocks, for players that can be something they gravitate towards. The message got through, there is no doubt about it.

And, Philbin kept it related to that incident, he didn't care about fingernail polish etc, the antics otherwise, just regarding the way you represent the organization publicly via the media. That's good as well.

Also, it was nice to see them upgrade the facilities a bit with the lockers. They look much better, as do the name plates. The more space you can give a player at their locker, the happier you've made him, even if it is somewhat minute in the grand scheme of things.

That was his conditioning test, not a workout.

Late, yes. But when you report, you take the conditioning test.

I thought that was a nice moment, and the setting was fine. Philbin came off as a likeable, normal human being.

The Chad Johnson press conference wasn't a huge deal and didn't need to be handled at some kind of formal meeting. It was just "hey, do me a favor and use one f-bomb, rather than 7" and that was pretty much it.

Same thing with Vontae. Philbin didn't care that he had to go to the bathroom during practice, it was that on top of everything else that made it an issue.

All in all, I thought Philbin came off very well, like I said, just a normal boss. Not a complete hard *** or clowinish type like Ryan.
