If Ryan wasnt as atheltic, and more of a classic sit in the pocket passer would you think differently? I am in the camp of, hes atheltic, can make plays, and can "sandlot" it a bit.....so why not let him learn by being tossed in the fire ala Newton, Ryan, Sanchez, Ponder etc Is that your feeling as well?
Unfortunately they are not going to be as forgettable this year. If he starts, what team would MMoore pad his stats with this year?
I'd prefer Tannehill to get going early, but if not him, then I'm hoping for Moore. I know it's a different system but he won me over last year stepping into a bad situation and playing pretty well.
I don't think that would affect me, really. For example, I consider Brandon Weeden to be just as ready to start immediately as Andrew Luck. Weeden has 4.8 speed but you'd have to classify him as a pretty strict pocket passer.
I wouldnt say Tannehill is as ready to start as either of those guys. Limited snaps in college, needs to learn the nfl speed and defenses and work on things.....But with his athleticism it may buy him time to be able to excell while learning more no?
The limited snaps don't mean much to me. A guy is ready or he's not. Cam Newton essentially had one year of playing at a real college level. Eli Manning and Drew Brees were three year starters with like 1200-1500 pass attempts under their belt. I felt Cam was ready, I feel Luck and Weeden are ready, I don't think Tannehill is ready. The athleticism makes things easier for Ryan to start right away but only because it's a tool in his tool box that the coaches can design around. You can design roll-outs and moving pockets to take the teeth off the defense's pass rush while simultaneously simplifying the reads. That would be the way you have to manage him as a rookie to get mediocre performance out of him. I don't think you're going to get more than that from him no matter how you manage him. You could get significantly worse than that if you don't manage him right.
Could all be moot ofcourse but anyone else find it a tad troubling that our Miami Dolphins will have the only of 4 QB's drafted NOT starting?? Seems so standard.
David Garrard's career passing rating is 85.8. That is not one of the highest career ratings in NFL history by any stretch. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GarrDa00.htm
It is 22nd of all time. ahead of such players as Jay Cutler, Matt Stafford, Marc Bulger, Eli Manning, Matt Hasslebeck, McNabb, Alex Smith and Chad Henne.
How does it show the figures can lie? The figures doesn't say he is better than those guys, it does says he can produce as well as those guys.
Can he? Not anymore...I don't care what obscured stat is thrown out, he doesn't sniff Eli Manning or Staffords backside.
How do you know? Do you have a crystal ball? Last time he played a full season was just two seasons ago and he made the probowl. How is quarterback rating an obscure stat? Garrard was able to produce without one of the best receivers in the league or without the plethora of first and 2nd round talent. Such as Eli "over rated" Manning and Matt "Future and current Stud" Stafford.
So do you think Jeff Garcia and Matt Schaub have performed as good or better in their career than Dan Marino? Edit: add Culpepper to the list for more giggles.
