Buffalo would have picked after them in the 3rd round. So they must have thought someone would have taken him in the 2nd, before they got on the clock again in the 3rd. Should make an interesting tandem with Greg Little, but agree with most people's logic as that was too dang high.
I stand corrected. Sorry... I assumed the order was the same as the 2012 NFL Draft. Does anyone else know how they determine the Supplemental Draft order? Also they still could have thought someone else was going to take him in the 2nd before they got on the clock again. The Redskins could have been one potential suitor.
I believe it's like the NBA draft. All teams get ping pong balls placed into a machine and then are drawn for draft order.
The NFL uses a 3-step lottery process to determine the supplemental draft order. The worst 10 teams are ordered by lottery to fill 1-10, then the next 10 teams fill 11-20 by lottery, then the 12 playoff teams fill the last 12 spots by lottery.
Between Greg Little, Josh Gordon, Josh Cribbs, Ben Watson, Evan Moore, Trent Richardson, Joe Thomas, Alex Mack and Brandon Weeden...I don't think there's any question the Browns offense is built to succeed earlier and better than the Dolphins' offense. When people predict them to have the #1 or #2 overall pick in 2013, they must just really, really hate the defense...or the coaches.
Agreed and honestly they have a better team than Miami when you look at the whole picture....problem is they play in that Division and I bet their schedule is going to be tougher than Miami's....
People also have to look at the value of having your 2013 draft pick on the field in 2012. That's probably worth a bump in rounds by itself.
I don't see it. Gordon, Richardson, and Weeden have yet to take a snap. Richardson should be fine and I know you really like Weeden, though I'm glad we didn't draft him as I don't envision him being really successful and expect a lot of turnovers. Have no idea with Gordon. Obviously in Miami we have Egnew, Miller, Martin, and Tannehill as rookies we're hopeful for but have no idea how they will perform. Even so I like the winner of our QB battle to be better than Weeden this season. Josh Cribbs pulled in 23 catches last season and as of yet has been more of a returner, compared to say Bess who is three years younger and obviously a more polished WR at this point. As a UNC fan I know Little has potential and should get be better his second season but seemed inconsistent last year, which isn't surprising given the circumstances. Then Gordon, who as I said I have no idea. So at WR I'm not very impressed with Little, Cribbs, and Gordon as opposed to say Hartline, Bess, and Ocho. Little may have the best 2012 of the six, but as a unit I like Miami's better at the moment. As far as lineman, Long is younger than Thomas and if healthy in 2012 could at least cancel each other out. Pouncey should be improved going into his second season. That leaves the Tight Ends where Cleveland has the edge but Watson isn't getting any younger. Fasano is not terrible and hopefully Clay can see more action. To recap: I like the winner of our QB battle to be better than a rookie Weeden. Little, Massaquoi, Cribbs, Gordon versus Hartline, Ochocinco, Bess, Naanee; Miami has a more proven and balanced WR corps, in my opinion. Cleveland has a good RB stable but Bush had a great 2011 and hopefully see Thomas/Miller contribute. TE Browns have the edge but Fasano and Clay/Egnew should be serviceable, and both teams seem to have a good LT and C.
I agree, I would have spent a 3rd...not a 2nd. Think he will do well in Cleveland though, could be worth it.
If Weeden is the real deal the Browns can compete with anyone. Problem is that division is just brutal...even if Weeden is an advanced QB, facing the Ravens and Steeler defense is not for the faint at heart. That being said, the future of the Browns looks brighter than the future of our Phins, and that truly pains me to say.
That offense doesn't exactly scream "success" to me... Not that our offense does either... our offense depends heavily this year on the success of (IMO) David Garrard.
Why? I would argue that they have better WRs for the future... A RB that will likely be very good in the future....a better OL...that leaves QB. Sounds like Weeden is a little more "ready" to be an NFL QB. So I have to be realistic and look at the evidence. I hope Iam 110% wrong.
They overpaid. But even without Gordon unless Tannehill comes out play better then Weeden in the next year, their offense definitely looks better.
How? You'd have to expect a really big jump for Little. OL I'll take ours for sure. TE, Watson hasn't done anything and Fasano is a lot better blocker. Then we have Egnew who has a lot more potential than any of them. RB I'd def rather have Richardson but I think we'll still produce there w/our committee. The only player on defense they have that I'd take over one of ours is Haden.
The Browns have made a lot of flashy moves on paper, but it's difficult to paint it as some sort of aggressive masterstroke when it's coming from a front office/coaching staff that are pretty likely to be fired. Not to mention that their biggest moves this off-season were using 1st round picks to replace failed 2nd and 3rd round picks by the same administration.
Would have liked this for a third...too much for a second. I think CLE will look better next year, but I don't know how lasting it will be. I can see them surpassing most peoples expectations in the near future though.
Sort of like how Jeff Ireland's banner move was using a 1st rounder to replace his own failed 2nd round picks?
I think overall you'd have to take CLE's skill position players over MIA's...right now. But we'll see in the future. Miami has a 2nd rounder and Cleveland doesn't. I could definitely imagine using the 2nd in 2013 on someone I like better than Gordon. I have a higher opinion of Cribbs as a WR than most do. Think he's underrated. Good RAC player. I put him on par with Bess and I put Little on par with Hartline. I'd take Gordon over OchoCinco right now. I'm sure most of the NFL would too. Watson and Moore are better more proven pass catchers than Fasano and Clay, IMO...and Jordan Cameron I'd put on par with Michael Egnew given its Cameron's second year versus Egnew's first. Then of course Trent Richardson >>> Bush/Thomas. Weeden versus Garrard...well, some say one, others say another. I know one man that coached Garrard in 2010 and then Weeden in 2011 and said very matter of factly that Weeden is better.
I think the discussion between the better offense ultimately comes down to that, who you think will have the better QB. Some love Weeden, however I think Miami will have better QB play and think the WR unit as a whole is better. Both teams have a long way to go though.
Yeah I'm curious why they're so beat up. But I do understand from a Vegas perspective they tend to beat up any team that plans on starting a rookie QB.
