A buddy of mine was telling me about his Bose Cinemate II system. From what he told me about it, the feature I like best is that there is no receiver, You basically hook it up to your TV and what ever you have hooked to your TV, blu-ray, xbox etc will be played through the audio system. Its almost as if your TV is the receiver. This cuts down on wires and best of all, there's no having to scan through the receiver to find the right components to play. I really like the sound of that! Id love to be able to turn on my TV and have the audio there, then be able to put in a movie or play a video game with out finding a remote or pushing a bunch of buttons to get the audio on the right channels. This bose system sounds good, but the only problem I have is that there are only three speakers. Im trying to see if there are any alternatives out there with more speakers that work like this bose system . Even if there is something out there with a receiver that's needed but doesn't require having to find channels to match components and dosent require a whole lot of tampering with, that would be just as good. ....I know it sounds lazy, but for me, I love the audio but I tend to not mess with it and just be content to listen to the TV speakers at the slightest hassle. Audio systems become a waste of money for me pretty much for this reason.
Finally, I dont have a good way to run wires for my surround sound, so if there is one like I described with wireless speakers, or a good way around the wire problem that would be good info too.

Easy answer, Bose is overrated and way overpriced. Save yourself hundreds and go get a traditional Denon, Yamaha, or Onkyo Receiver system. Bose is solid but more a bragging thing than it is best home audio solution.

    Three fallacies here.

    1. "Bose system sounds good." Bose equipment is awful. The commercials are nice, but the sound is low quality compared to speakers and headphones even half the price.

    2. "It's almost as if your TV is the receiver. This cuts down on wires…" A sound system lacking a receiver is not necessarily a good thing, as a capable receiver will give you advanced and desirable capabilities, such as bitstreaming audio from a quality source.

    3. "… the wire problem…" Wires are not a problem, just a hassle if not managed correctly. Wireless audio has latency and tends to be of lower quality than wired audio. You may or may not notice the quality difference, but chances are you'll be annoyed by the latency.

For the record, in my post above I did not mean to link Onkyo to anything. My iPad auto linked somehow. Just wanted to make that clear as I'm not trying to sell anything on that page nor am I recommending/not recommending anything linked.

Just a receiver or blu-ray player or anything else for that matter would be fine. Id just like for it to plug into the TV and then have the audio play what ever is hooked up to the TV. You know how if you dont have a audio system and you use your TV audio, you can turn your XBOX, PS3, or your blue ray, Direct TV reciever etc...the sound is just there. No extra buttens to mess with or anything. Its just there. Id love a surround sound system that can work like that!

    It's called an in-line advertisement.

Also not, my current theater system runs through a blu ray player. This was the cheapest set I could get from best buy about 3 or 4 years ago. Newer or better quality systems may work like what Im looking for. If not, it just seems like with all the technology out there, they could come up with a system that can transfer the audio from the TV to the theater speakers, without having to scan through channels like DVD/TV/ Comp 1 /Comp2 / AUX etc.....

I'm using a Samsung surround sound system, which is pretty good and I got on sale, but I had an Onkyo before and it was very good quality. As for wireless, I would try to avoid it, but if you really need to, buy a rocketfish wireless speaker kit. It usually runs around 70 bucks but if you wait and watch amazon and ebay you can find a good deal on it sooner or later and get it for half that. It's about as good a wireless kit you're gonna get for the rear speakers and for that price. I certainly have had no problems with it thus far, about 5 months in with it.
