Hey Boik, where'd you get that 74m salary cap number from? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

The luxury tax line is expected to be at about 70 million. The "apron" is 4 million above the tax line. When a team uses the full mid level exception, the apron becomes a hard cap, hence the 74 million number. However, the Nets used the mini MLE on Teletovic so they're not subject to the hard cap, and Dwight Howard is still possible. Though not really plausible as they won't be anything close to a contender with the collective group of scrubs that would make up all but 4 roster spots.

Billy King is an idiot. Trying to be Pat Riley, except Riley was smart enough to have Wade, LeBron, Bosh, and Haslem take paycuts so he can put competent role players around them, while Deron and Joe are making the max, and Dwight will too. Only that Dwight will be making that money on another team (Lakers imo) since I don't see why the Magic would want what the Nets are offering anyways, and the Nets will be stuck with Deron and Joe Johnson's worst contract in the league. A playoff team either way most likely, but a first round exit each year with maybe a 2nd round sweep sandwiched in there somewhere. Basically, the same hell I had to suffer with this idiot as the 76ers GM for a decade.

I agree with everything you said here except they will be a first round exit every year. With that team they will be a 3-4 seed in the East and will win first round and will give their 2nd round opponent fits. They could make deep runs in the playoffs for sure and they wont be an easy out. Well thats if they add Howard...with just Lopez and Humphries then you're absolutely right....early round exits every year.

Bringing in Joe Johnson was just such an awful idea that i love it. Stupid Brooklyn.

Even with Howard, not seeing it. That big 3 isn't nearly as good as Miami's, and the role players won't be nearly as good either as all they would have aside from those 3 would be Gerald Wallace and Teletovic who's an unknown that looks like he's at best another Ryan Anderson. Unless the East continues to suck as bad as it did this year, then yea, you're probably right. But I don't see Howard ending up a Net anyways. Magic have better offers out there, and I have no doubt Howard would sign an extension with the Lakers. Pretty much a guarantee if they get Iguodala for Pau as rumored since for whatever reason Dwight had Iggy on that list of players he'd like to play with he supposedly gave the Magic.

Perhaps you two should read above to see R&R post. Is he clueless as well or are you willing to admit perhaps you were wrong and it is indeed possible to land all these guys?!

Just sayin. I dont claim to be an NBA cap expert but at the same time many that are are saying it is possible....not easy but possible.

Main point of my post was just saying that they arent a first round exit and they can be a real force with that team. How they compare to the heat:

Yes and no. See last year Miamis was hurt and they dont fit that seemlessly together although they've figure out its LEBrons team. Even still, LeBron and Wade don't play off each other well. Wade doesnt compliment LeBron like a more pure shooter will. Sure Wade is so good at other things that it works, but there is reason that half court offense goes so stale. Then of course with Bosh they dont have a post player as he is an excellent big man shooter. Having a good post player you can dump to for easy points or kick to open shooters is something the Heat dont have. Again another reason the half court offense goes stale. We will see if LeBron continues to be that guy, but no matter what his game will always be at the point for the most part.

With Brooklyn they have a point, a good spot up shooter, and a post defender. Deron runs the point and is a great player, one of the best few points in the game, and can be the very best. Joe Johson is a guy I don't like but he does compliment Deron because of his shooting ability. Then of course Dwight is just a dominant force. Best defensive player in the league and offensively more than holds his own now.

As far as matchups, both teams will give each other some trouble. Brooklyn wont be able to defend the wings as nobody can really matchup with wade and lebron but having dwight in the middle is a huge help. Miami can't defend Dwight or Deron, but could have Wade on Deron in stretches to help with his size and quickness.

In the end I think Brooklyn starters obviously better fit each other but I pick Miami simply because they have the best player in the world who is also incredibly versatile on both ends of the court.

With the Heat injuries, I thought Chicago was a lock to represent the East this year. Rose went out and it opened a huge door the Heat went running through. BTW, Boston got so lucky Rose went out because there is no way they're beating a healthy Chicago and getting to the ECF

not only that, but the number on Deron will be higher, and the D12 extension bites into the Tax for the following year and leaves them with an ALL TAX bench. THAT is ridiculous.

They would do to their cap in 1 season, what it would take 5 years for the Heat to do.

You guys noticed that Yellow bought into every single Heat fallacy the media put out? Heat fan? nope.

If he had watched this team he would know:

    1. They kill zone defenses now. last time a zone defense had success against them was in January (Atlanta).
    2. Wade and Lebron do play well together. That is why they ran all those 2-3 P&R's vs. Indiana and buried them under it.
    3. The Heat had the 3rd ranked half court offense, so they are pretty good at it.

The Heat got injured AFTER Rose got hurt.

If you thought Chicago was a lock to represent the east this year, your cable was not only out for all of Chalmers games in the playoffs, but it was also out all regular season and for last years ECF's.

Dude, you need to sue your cable company.

No offense buddy but you try too hard to be liked. Maybes its your schtick as the old bitter know it all guy on a message board, i'm not sure. Either way its pretty lame. If you want to talk basketball lets do it, if you want to post just so you look cool for the younger whipper snappers then save it for someone who cares.

For the record you're absolutely wrong. Or are you saying that Wade wasn't hurt until Rose went down? If you are then of course you'd be horribly wrong. Wade was hurt months before Rose and clearly wasn't the same Wade. Not to mention a key role player IMO in Miller who can't even sit on the bench he was hurt all season with messed up hands and feet and back and everything else. The Bulls are just a damn good team and when healthy the two teams are close. With Wade being not the same, Millers injury, a coach who was experimenting with lineups up until the last day I liked the Bulls chances more to leave the East. I did think if the Heat played the Thunder they'd have a much better chance thant the Spurs.

So let me know you want to continue down this path or talk basketball, your choice?!

Rose getting hurt exposed just how bad the rest of that team is(not that Philly is a bad team), but if their talent level was as good as has been hyped they should have wiped the floor with Philly.

    Chicago is no threat.

Needed to do it to sign Nick Young.

Somewhat surprising as Brand was an expiring contract, albeit one with a huge number. Would have thought there would have been interest somewhere.

If he gets through waivers, he screams "Miami Heat" Riley has loved him for years

and no. Wade tweaked his knee in the Knicks series. You are wrong as usual. It turned out he was due for maintenance. He got it drained before game 3 vs. Indiana.

Veteran minimum. He gets $18.2 million next year whether he plays or not.

If he clears waivers, anything he makes is gravy. It's the same way we can get Lewis. The guy is already pocketing $14 million whether he steps on the floor or not. why not earn an extra $1.6 million and try and win a title?
