Wonder what it is though, why would Jenks agree to that, he could literally do NOTHING and make 6M this year....why would he agree to take less...
Not sure but it's possible he might have something in his contract that states if he gets into trouble with the law the team has a right to void the deal or at least suspend him without pay? The settlement might just be an outright release with an insurance company paying Jenks the difference (if the Sox had insurance on his contract). Again these are just guesses, I have no idea really. I guess we will find out in time.
Not sure what anyone would expect him to say about this matter. I'd be somewhat surprised if Youkilis was a Sox by Sept 1st.
During the Yanks/Red Sox (South) game last night, on the telecast they were saying how Cano is the Captain of the Home Run Derby team....and they asked him if he picked his team yet, and Robbie said he hadn't but that he did already ask his best friend Big Papi to be on the team... just throwing it out there....
Ortiz already said he wasn't going to do the HR Derby this year. This makes me happy. Hopefully none of the other Red Sox do either and hopefully none of the other Red Sox get picked to go and play. If you need to have a Sox on the team I hope Punto goes.
Ortiz will show up for Robbie...they love each other.... And the whole 2nd half swing thing is a myth as evident in Cano last year...
I agree it's a myth but I prefer to have the players of the team I root for not take part in meaningless things like the HR Derby or ASG where it's possible an injury can occur.
I agree but I think Ortiz genuinely likes being there...he is that type of dude....but I will say thou Fink, unfortunately it means something.....home field in the WS is important....so I dont mind the players being there.... and I gotta ask because we are giving him the benefit of the doubt, but is Gonzo hurt? He looks pretty bad in the box this year....mainly swinging at balls....any input? .315OBP?
Having the ASG count for home field advantage is a joke in itself. Good question, Gonzalez really hasn't been very good since last years' ASG, especially in the power department. Maybe his shoulder is still bugging him? I really don't know. He just never has gotten into a rhythm at the plate, and is missing his pitches a bit. And he's barely walking. It is puzzling. I agree it's not but I just don't care about the ASG. It was fun when I was little and didn't see the NL players much or before there was a baseball package. Plus the games aren't really that exciting for the most part. Don't even get me started on the WBC which is coming back next year.... Yeah absolutely. That's a big time signing right there.
I have probably watched 5-6 All Stars game ever, it's only a step away from the Pro Bowl. Having home field decided by a game where maybe 50% of the players don't really care is a nuts. I know this will never happen but I would rather give all players 3 days off and have the Futures All Star game on TV. I have a better chance of watching that personally.
Ya I would replace the actual All-Star game Tues night with it. I love watching it, those guys are trying to do well every AB. Damn Keith Law, others, and the internet for getting me into minor league baseball and the draft. Great stuff.
Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett was slated to start Sunday against the Cubs in Wrigley, but now he's been scratched because of shoulder inflammation. Manager Bobby Valentine tells the Boston Herald that no roster move is expected "for now," but of course a trip to the DL remains a possibility for Beckett.
The MLB does a poor job marketing the futures game though it's on on Sunday while real MLB games are on at the same time. They should put the futures game on Sunday night, Monday night (instead of the HR Derby) or the day after the ASG.
Ryan Sweeney to the DL, Ryan Kalish called up. The injuries keep on coming but I'm very excited to see what Kalish can do, hopefully he hits right away and takes the job from Sweeney.
Been out of it the last couple of days, say Beckett wouldn't start but didn't know Morales was starting. He could be doing much worse.
Seen Mark Prior K 15 in 6 2/3 of work tonight...impressive. Hate to see him do well for the saux, but I do hope his career can get back on track.
Morales starting is semi-interesting. He came up as a SP for the Rockies but I'm not really sure why they ever took him out of the rotation. In the minors and majors he did walk a lot of guys but as a 21 to 23 year old you'd think they would give him a chance to work on it a bit. He pitched a good ballgame yesterday, granted it was against the Cubs but still. I'm eager to see what he does against the Braves on Saturday. Yeah he's been pitching very well right now. His velocity is obviously not where it was in his heyday but his ball still has a lot of movement on it. Hopefully he continues to pitch well and gets called up. It would be a really good story for not only him but for the Sox too, as they need some positive stories nowadays.
It was the Cubs, one of the worst teams in baseball. The Sox are still 8 games out of first in the L column and 4 games back in the WC, they have enough injuries players to fill a MLB team (which would still be able to beat the Cubs or Twins) what exactly should I be excited about right now?
Because you are 6 weeks from the deadline....talk to me then....however I do reckon they need to win some ballgames...
And how is that exciting? Because they may or may not trade Youkilis? I will get excited when they win a few games in a row.
no goofball not because of the snipits I posted, but the fact that there is still alot of time left before the deadline, and then you start to worry.... slightly......
You knew he was rushing himself back.....you just knew, and frankly this isnt a shock at all.... I love Pedoria, love the way he plays BUT just like Jeter he never wants to come out, will lie about injuries etc...and I get that, the guy is a gamer, but this is where the manager and the team doc need to sit there say a torn muscle isnt healing in a few weeks and forced him to sit.......
Yup they should have DLed him just for his own good. Can't wait to watch Nicky Punto play 2nd for the next few weeks.
I bet Miami was like "cool we get to go to New England away from Miami where it will be a beautiful 75 degrees" They get here and it is 95 today, 97 tomorrow....with all that awesome humidity.... Actually I blame that team for bringing that sh%t up here with them.....
The Sox are 3-1 against the Marlins this year, they can stay in Boston as long as they want just as long as Logan Morrison doesn't play when Buchholz pitches.
